Gary is absolutely right, It is only a good thing if details of the rules are clarified and everyones expectation is aligned before competitions/decisions are made. The discussion will result in general agreement in some of the details beforehand and higher chance of acceptance of the result after a decision.
Craig, I hope that you don't let this topic influence which machines you enter to an event. I don't believe anyone wants to make an example of any particular machine/design. The pit is only one of the many areas which need clarification. I think the required clarification extends quite broadly across all types of machines. A very good example there Glyn a scenario that would be interesting to discuss.
Knowing exactly how something will be judged does actually affect our strategy in the arena so worth knowing on a competitiveness front.

Possibly/probably. I think whenever I saw NST or any other nasty spinner going in to the arena I tried to get the fight on film. I've been up in the remote wilderness of the Scottish Highlands for the past few days so didn't get a chance to start sorting out footage, but I've now got a four-day weekend coming up so all my vids will be up in a couple of days.
