Hi everyone, just to let you all know, I am planning to bring The Steel Avenger up to Kidderminster for the event in October.
Is Steel Avenger actually competing at Kidderminster? I thought it had become a static only bot?
The Steel Avenger will be competing at Kidderminster, it's changed owners, but it will now be brought back out of retirement, and will be competing in events.
Sweet, another robot as old as Eric coming back :D.
Not that I am doubting your engineering knowledge or being derogatory in any way (as I dont know you), and i'm not sure what sort of condition the robot is now in, but if you need any advise on modernising old bots to allow them to comply with the rules as they currently are give me a shout :)
Hi Michael, if you coming to Kidderminster can you please sign up here http://www.robotslive.co.uk/signup2011.htm , as stated above, please make sure that it complies with the current rules set (main ones being power light & 2.4Ghz), give us shout if you have any questions.

The robot is working fine at the moment, all that needs to be done is have the radio system changed so that it complies with regulations, but I have got all of the parts for that, so hopefully that won't be to difficult. :)
Nice one, that shouldn't bee too difficult. Infact, easier to fit than the 40MHz gear I would suggest.
As Alan said, make sure you have a power light that falls within the rules, a lot of the old bots used filament bulbs (Eric included) which wouldn't be allowed anymore. Again, nice and easy to replace with an LED though :)
any chance you'll be selling the old 40 meg gear? i could really do with it for my antweights
Worrying thing is I'll be driving it for a fight at whitwick, that's going to be... erm... interesting :lol:
on wednesday we will have a new robot on the team owned and run my me, Lev 2 :)
its an LP pneumatic flipper which i am just looking to get running first then will hopfully upgrade so it can take full combat :)

Smashing my head against the wall for not getting parts yet and still getting my head around Steel Avenger in our team
When you get parts, we will get building but you ain't got long :)

It will since it's being restored exactly to the way it was before :)
I still don't think you'll be able to capture the heart and soul that the original had. It's like if you dug up Billy mays body and used servos to control him, yes he'd look the same and be able to sell products still but the cyborg zombie would just be a shell of what once was, never even close to being as good as the original.

well it arrived and i must say im really happy with it. it needs work and probably wont be in the arena in October but it may if im lucky

it needs two new plates and a compleat over hall of the insides. it needs some pip and connectors, a reg, rc gear and batteries, with all the being wired and connected up aswell
Sounds simple enough. Just buying and wiring up different components will be no bother, as long as you can find a reg.

Sounds like you have 6-7 weeks to do a day or two's work, once you have all the parts its easy.
its getting the parts which is hard for me, i need the money :)
Switch the RC gear and batteries from your other bot into it just to get it going, no cost at all there. Also get some photos of what its like now, the bot seems to have a lot of fans commenting on here.
Thing is, the max they can take is 14.4v and my only 2 packs are 17.8v and 24v. I've checked the motors on 7.2v and they do work :)
Lev 2 has had a good tidy up and now is not quite so dirty
ReAvenger is being a bugger though and doesnt want to drive straight due to the weight being un even, ill get it working properll, then get it in the weight limit
Did you get a reg for it too? I would ask for pictures of either of them too, but its been asked about 8 times so not really seeing the point... :lame:

Tried it and it has little effect. It would be weight distribution, wheels, one motor more powerful etc etc etc

Without seeing it it would be hard to tell which of those it is.
See if the wheels move the same speed and at the same time when there is no weight on the wheels.
I think it could be the grub screws that in one wheel they Arnt in properly
Tighten them and try again then :proud:
