I thought that was what the contents of the brown envelope secured Grant
Just had a look at the entry list on the website, going to be a good turn-out certainly. Quite a few new machines in there, and noticed the return of Storm Vortex too 8)
Looking at the seeds and the list in general made me realise just how poor Drumroll's performance was last time. Only got myself to blame for rushing the design, but I've had time to sort the parts layout and improve the reliability so no excuses this time.
What coming second in the annihilator, losing only to something you can barely hit? Yeah you did crappy last year Jamie
What worries me most about this tourney, is that with captain scarlet absent, I am going to be the lightest machine in the there. Which isn't very good when your weapon is a lifter. :(
Whos winning this year? My money has to be on 540 I think.
Re- email thanks grant will try to today.
Also I am re-doing Tron so if you want to count it as a new robot that's OK.
Craig
Hi Craig, I have emailed you your robots qualification days now thank you.
Yes there are some fantastic new machines in the competition and its great to see the return of Storm Vortex and every UK Champion since 2006! We currently have 37 entries which means there are only 3 spaces left before we close entries and open a reserves list. If you would still like to enter but haven't signed up please do so as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your support guys its very much appreciated.
For those that don't want to navigate too much....
http://web.me.com/robochallenge/Robo_Ch ... list..html
No 360? Not sure I would want to compete against it, but still would have loved to have seen it in action!
No dave is running 540, his boring rammer, yeah you heard me Dave! :P
Apparently it's going in a box on display as part of the Robo Challenge stand, with 540 being entered by Dave instead.
Bit of a shame as it's always fun to watch, always draws the roboteers to the arena, but then again, 540 could be just as impressive in a different way.
lol i think 360's going to be a demmo bot from now on, its done its bit introducing brushless onto the scene, LS4 has taken the crown as the top spinner now lol and ive invested far to many hours on it and far to much money on it to get it wrecked....although if i knew vortex was entering earlier i probably would of got it ready just on the off chance of getting to fight it...
..having said that if anyone wants to give me a new brushless esc, and a set of brass gears for my bosch 35's id be happy to enter it lol.
Tom- probably going to be beauty winning again :(
Ok guys we only have 1 more entry place left! not long to go until the big day. Beauty 2 has a great chance, I think Vortex, Explosion and LF3 could all do really well. Tiny Toon will be really difficult to beat too so its a very hard one to decide.
Providing my draw isn't as appaling as last year I'll be content :)
well i can say 100% i wont be winning this year. I want a spinner to win really, Mouldy if you get to the final against a spinner you better loose.
I thought 540 was going to be a bar spinner that can be taken off ?
nope just being a rammer :(
I'm taking it this year :)
It is Dave but the bar won't be finnished in time. Maybe next year.
As much as I'd like to see Captain Scarlet reclaim, I reckon it'll be a drum this year.
Here come the drums!
When is the draw going to be done?
Can some one please tell me how the competition is run? I mean in terms of qualifiers, quarter, semi, and finals? etc.....
Also what does the draw dictate?
Thanks,
Well, going off the champs in 2009, it goes roughly like this:
To start we have 3 qualifier round with three robots in each, from these qualifiers we gain points for the following
4 points for a knockout win
3 points for win by judges decision
2 points for 2nd place
1 point for 3rd place (but the robot must have entered the arena)
0 points for not entering the arena
The qualifier rounds are decided by the pre-event draw
Top ten scores from the qualifiers go through to the knockout rounds, which goes:
5 1v1 fights
5 way losers melee, 1 robot goes through
3 1v1 fights
3 way losers melee, 1 robot goes through
2 1v1 semifinals
3rd place play off
Final
A drum might take it this year. Drumroll/Boner has done very good the past 2 years. Just need some one to work out how many flippers / vert spinners / horizontal spinners and boxes etc theres going to be this year.
Entries are on the website
Ye, dont have a clue what sum of the robots are.
So only ten robots make it through from the Qualifiers! Going to be a short weekend for me.....
If you get knocked out of the qualifiers you have the opportunity to enter the annihilator though
Ok. I'm assuming there will be Whiteboards throughout the weekend, providing we can keep the robot running we'll keep fighting it!
There is usually
Slight thread highjack, but what do you guys do with your batteries between rounds? Would you advise giving them a fast charge between bouts, or letting them run a little low before doing so?
I know ideally I would want to run them flat and them trickle charge them, but I can't imagine that is practical at a competition!
fast charge. Do a few slow charge discharge cycles when you come home (if they are still in one piece). I wouldn't worry about the competition format. James and Grant will publish it soon i'm sure.
Yeah, the final will be Drumroll v Boner 8)Quote:
