James on the vote for who you think will win section you should put another as one of the options... :P
is the draw being done before the event like last year?
I will do the draw approximatly 1 week prior to the event. I am still waiting on confirmation of start and finish times each day so I can finalise the timetable and event format.
can't wait
hopefully lots of 1 on 1 fights
prefer them to 3 way :(
Just so everyone knows, I'm gonna be running the old drumroll, not sabre in this champs. Still need to come up with a new name but I'm sure I'll come up with something suitably fitting!
Lol, I love the three-way fights. A bit more carnage than one-on-ones but easier to keep track of what's happening than meles.Quote:

Fingers crossed that format can be fitted into the schedule for this year.
I hope to run the same format as our usual championships.
We feel that having a mix of 3-way qualifying rounds, 1 on 1 fights most the way to the top, with the occasional 4-6way loser's melee's to get back into the competition give a wide variety of challenges to all the robot's fairly. Also, if they were all 1 on 1's, there would not physically be enough time to get all the fights done. Certainly wouldnt have the time for 3 fights each in the qualifying rounds.
I only don't like them because I will be getting ganged up on :proud:
Was a good format what we used last year though
If you want something with the word 'drum' in it, here's a list :)Quote:

Of them all, I thought 'humdrum' sounded quite good but unfortunately it means 'lacking variety or excitement; dull; boring' so maybe not the most inspiring name :P
I was contemplating buying Drumroll and re-naming it Drumbone, after the Blue Man Group's musical peice/instrument of the same name. I don't mind giving that name up if you want to use it.
You'd just have to fight the urge to stick an 'R' on the end of that name
Great suggestion, boner it is :)
imagion being the commentator for that one! :uhoh:Quote:

Kitty
ok cool never seen it before but 'kitty' doesnt really work for the joke lol
Only just noticed that there is a countdown clock on the Robo Challenge homepage, and with only 40 days to go, there should be some trash talk flying about by now. So, ahem....
SPINNERS FOR WINNERS :D
Flippers wear slippers :uhoh: :)
Im really hoping my new machine may be finished in time however i think that may be a little optimistic lol. There are quite a few spinners entered this year. Number of flippers are certainly down. Its going to be crucial who can keep their machine reliable.
Any chance of getting a sneak peek of who/what is currently entered? :)
not yet :)
We are expecting the spinners to take another leap forward with some new technology around. Also we have a few come backs which look interesting. Surprised by the lack of flippers this year so far.
Fair enough, was worth a shot :)
Reliability is going to be a big thing I think as you said James, especially for the spinners. Spent the weekend beforehand last year bashing the robot around with/against Hornet, which was a big help in highlighting any problem areas and fixing them, rather than discovering them in the arena, and the results spoke for themselves with both machines I believe.
Depending on if there is an entry cut-off date soon or if it's just going to be before the draw, there's still a few weeks for more flippers to get in, although I won't be complaining if the flipper numbers stay the same :)
Definatly reliability is going to play a big part at these champs. As I said for our video I was very impressed by drum rolls upgrades which radically improved the performance last year. If the new machine drives well and can take the big hits I think it could be a contender, be under no illusions though, I think the steps forward made by the big teams this year could well be bigger than last year. Which is incredible.
I've signed up, but I've got travel issues, anyone going through or by Bristol? if so any chance I can grab a lift?
Craig id be happy to pick you up..
I'm setting of on the Thursday and heading back Monday morning though.
Good job that Pain in the Asp isn't there :uhoh:Quote:
Cant wait for Boner v Block of Wood
Has anyone sorted any accommodation yet?
I ask because we're travelling down on Thursday and back on Monday so will probably be booking into a Travelodge on Thursday night/Sunday night. I've signed up for camping Friday/Saturday night but my dad isn't keen on it (occasional back problems mean a tent isn't the most comfortable for him, combined with our 2-man tent only really being big enough for one-and-a-half men at most) so he'll probably be looking at a Travelodge on those nights. But at almost £60-a-night it's a lot, so if anyone is looking for a room for Friday/Saturday night and would be interested in sharing a room/splitting costs with my dad, let me know. Nothing's booked yet but just looking at ways of keeping costs down, otherwise these four-day weekend trips can be expensive
P.S. Craig, Dave's already offered, but we'll be passing by Bristol too on the Thursday/Monday and could pick you up just in case you need a back-up lift.
hey anyone going down on the friday night who lives near enough to give me a lift ??
i live in Acocks Green in Birmingham
I'm proud to announce that we have just recieved some more prizes for the event from one of our new sponsor's Horizon Hobby.
Horizon are the sole supplier's of Spektrum products around the world, and have been kind enough to donate some great prizes to add to an already pretty good list!
Horizon have supplied us with a Spektrum DX7 to add to first place prizes, a DX6i to add to 2nd place prizes, a DX5e to add to 3rd place prize's and they've also been kind enough to supply us with another DX5e aswell. Once the timetable is complete, we will see if we can fit in an Annihilator with 6 robot's and the winner will take the DX5e and a nice trophy. If there isn't time, we will come up with something else int he format, wether it be most entertaining or most improved etc etc.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Horizon Hobby for their support in our events.
Silverline Tools have also donated some very nice tool's to add to the above, and I will be recieving those very shortly aswell.
Silverline have found a local campsite to Fleet Air Arm's, and will be passing the information about it onto me later today/early next week. We will be camping there ourselves, and anyone wanting to join us is more than welcome!
I'm looking forward to it now!
Wow, nice job securing them as a prize supplier. I know everyone would still take part even if there weren't prizes but that extra incentive puts a nice edge on things :)
Looking forward to some campsite antics as well. The only time I've previously properly camped was the Euros and that was off the back of a week when I was ill as hell and on anitbiotics, so wasn't the greatest fun.
Can't wait!
(P.S. Grant, did you get my email last week about the drum? My email's not been the most reliable lately so I have no idea if some messages have been sent or received :? )
Yup I'm up for camping...... Ladies and gentlemen of the drinking circle, I'd like to propose..... :)
You kept that up all freakin' night at the Tag Champs, and a big arrggh followed after every time John Lear messed up his turn :P
I'll try and stay up a little later next time :)
Is the campsite behind the venue like the Tag champs was ?
If it is don't tell Mr Lear
That's it Seraph now has a LiPo 11.1V, 2,200 mah pack. The peak current is 77amps so I have now fitted a 70A fuse in line and a low volt sounder to the robot, so it should comply with the rules.
Along with the Sidewinder speed controller so now it should be reliable enough for the competition.
How deep is the pit in this arena as I should be able to run in and out of the pit without noticing it too much!
Now to get Tron going.
What were you running in Seraph before ? 11.1v seems a bit low
Grant,
On the Horrizon website you need to get me in the Drivers that trust spektrum to keep them in control with beauty 2 :) Get me sponsored ;)
Best featherweight ever..... I need sponsors and TV :(
10.8V
Ok Guys with just 21 days to go we have released the entry list so far on www.robochallenge.co.uk Entry for the ride on closes tomorrow, entry for the Uk Championships closes on the 8/9/10 so any one wishing to enter still make sure you get your names down!
