Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
The Wotty has blown up again, I have absolutely no idea why. The only difference between when it was running the other day and now is that the Wotty has been mounted properly, so the only thing I can think of is maybe the mounting has bridged a connection inside it and it sparked and smoked, but I can't really see how that's happened. It also blew the reciever, the third one it's blown.
Only just got the Wotty fixed, at a cost of £64 that I didn't have anyway, and had to borrow the money to buy a new reciever, so there's no way I'd do it again, and at the rate it's destroying equipment I'd hate to borrow anyone elses for it. It just isn't worth the risk to me to spend all the money I have trying to get it to every event just for it to keep going wrong.

Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Sorry to hear that you can't keep your robot going, if there is anything we can do to help let me know. I believe you are important in the competition, as every machine is

Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Thanks John. Was looking forward to it. Will just have to take part next year instead, when I'm in a better position.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
You're welcome
If I can help just ask
Craig you asked about Scorpion's weapon, hope all has been answered

Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Dave I have a Vantec and a Sidewinder I can lend you for as long as u may need it, im on ur msn and fb just message me we'll get u running
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Dave you know the offer of a lift is always there if we can help in anyway at all you have my number.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
I have a DX5 transmitter and reciever you could use if that helps :D Don't forget to tell Ian he may be able to help with the wotty repair too.
Don't give up on this year mate we all want to see this robot go too :D
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Ian can repair the Wotty easily, but it's only just got back from him after I plugged the batteries in the wrong way, and that repair cost me £65, and it seems to be a similar thing that's gone wrong again, though I've no idea how it's gone from working one night to blowing up recievers and the speedo just overnight. I don't have the money to get it fixed and, as I say, I wouldn't want to put anyone else's equipment in unless I know for a fact that its working. If I break anything of anyone else's, it'll be a good few months at least before I can pay back, cos the earliest I can get a job is mid April and I can't go on the dole til then either after I had to leave my last job.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Might be back in action for Barnsley. Craig Danby has insisted I borrow his Vantec. I guess I'll bring it all along and see if we can get it going on the day.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Just out of curiousity, how did you mount the wotty ? seems very strange if thats all thats happened since you had it running.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
It was mounted with 4 bolts through the base Dave, which is why I think one of them has shorted on the circuit above inside the thing, cos the bolts weren't in when I first tested it. There was a big gap between the two, so I thought it was a fairly small risk, but obviously not. That's the only thing I think could have happened.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
So you think the bolts were too long?
Makes sence and another lesson learnt ... It's a steep learning curve but we've all been there. :-(
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Don't worry Dave, it'll make it into the arena! If I have to sit on top of it and turn the wheels like a wheelchair to get it moving then so be it! :)
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
less bolts, more ducktape.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
just attach a tow rope to your opponents !!
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
The bolts weren't too long, that wasn't the problem. Ian Watts has been in touch and has said its virtually impossible for it to take out the reciever, however much it shorts out, so he believes it's a problem with the Wotty and not something I have done, especially with it working one day and not the next. So he's going to take another look at it when he's back (he's abroad) on the 7th and if it isn't a problem that I've caused, he says he'll fix it for free.
What a lovely man :)
It'll be cutting it a little fine for Barnsley so might not get it back in time for then, but should be all set for Whitwick, providing its a fixable problem. I will run on a controller borrowed from Craig at Barnsley if mine isn't back, and then one of the many receiver offers I've had, thank you all.
Any more news I'll move to the Anger thread in Heavyweights and stop clogging the UK Champs thread. lol.

Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Well more good news .... Well not for team shock ... A certain two wheeled robot may be up and running for Barnsley .... :-)

Round is not how I remember them being I've seen those wheels come off before under a big hit, just glad there isn't a fast powerful ramming robot attending ............ oh wait there is
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
They are round, held on with a very big nut... The only thing is that they are so small... Fitting everything in is the problem lol

Only allowed one driver per robot in the champ fights Jamie. So if you drive at Barnsley you'll have to drive it at every event. Not necessarily a bad thing. lol.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Ah but it is one robot per driver this year :)
Which means if I drive it at Barnsley, and then make it along to another RR event in the year, I can't drive another robot in a comp fight. But someone else can drive Stinger at other RR events. At least I think that's how it's working this year??
Either way I'm just looking forward to a weekend away playing with robots :)

Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships

For 2010, instead of it being one driver per robot, its one robot per driver, so if you need someone else to drive your robot€¦. That€™s fine, as long as they haven€™t driven any robot in the championships before. Once someone drives a robot in any one fight, then they are attached to that robot for the rest of the championships€¦ no swapping around !!
Yup, you'd be stuck to Stinger, haha.
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
Just pray to X'hal that Stinger doesn't get into a fight with St. Hammer. The censors wouldn't allow it. :uhoh:
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships

-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
I feel sorry for Big Nipper for the first time ever, being in the middle of that one. haha
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots UK Championships
I can provide a driver for Stinger who will be at every event with me who has been driving robots as long as me, my old man, he would love it!
-
Re: The 2010 Fighting Robots Association UK Championships
