Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
It's ok, I'm a student therefore I trade in Monopoly money
Sadly though, according to Stu's Facebook statuses, it was real money (in the form of expensive equipment) that was lost when RR's truck got broken into by Wigan neds (west of Scotland speak for chavs) last night.
Don't you just despise some people on this earth?

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
no way did that really happen?

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Hi all, just got back
I'd like to thank Jonno, Mr Stu and the rest of the crew behind Roaming Robots for putting on a really fantastic show to end 2009. I really enjoyed it despite Storm Force not working well but hey, these things happen and I'm chuffed about Pug managing to last a bit longer than usual! The most comical moments of the event had to be us getting our hammer entangled on Iron-Awe 5s bungee cord, the arena flipper throwing Tiberius onto Major Damage's claw where it was stuck there throughout the rest of the fight, the 2 Iron-Awes nearly getting MD over and Terrorhurtz severly damaging Major Damages breastplate! I would like to thank David Weston the Award Winner for the most helpful roboteer for using his time to get Pug properly running for its WB fight along with Alex Marler and thanks to Shane, Jason & John for helping me with Storm Force. Congradulations to Terrorhurtz for taking home the gold in what has been a well hard fought-for tournament! Merry Xmas and a happy 2010 everyone! from Team Bud.

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
12 years since the Reid began his reign of terror! Hail hail THZ!
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Just got back from this...according to Dave and Jonno the RR truck was indeed broken into and although the 'important' bits like the arena, Major Damage and most of the lighting weren't molested, the sound system among other things were, but thanks to some last minute loans and scrounging for equipment the show went ahead without too many hitces thankfully, despite the actions of the petty thieves.
Huge thanks to Jonno and the crew for putting on a fantastic event despite everything, to Daves Weston and Lawrie for accommodating me in their travels, and to everyone I talked to at the event (especially Daves W and L and of course Swanny, good to meet you at last mate :)) for being very nice people.
And of course many congratulations to John and Nick for becoming only the second team to win the UK champs twice :)
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Loved it guys, thank you so much as ever. I noticed a real dynamic this time between the awful people who stole the equipment and the great people who are involved in this hobby. I realised what a great group of people we all are, how nicely everyone gets along and how forthcoming everyone is with advice, help and humour. Aint we great? :)
PS. TW3-RX5 aka Noo Noo aka Benny Bin aka Henry Hoover is still in perfect working order

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Many thanks to Jonno and the crew for another great weekend, and to Angela for the hard work in keeping the audience entertained whilst we get ready to play.Congratulations to John and Nick with Thz on their win , Will a great 2nd place with Maelstrom,to Matt with Heatwave on winning the feather weight comp and to all of the winners in the RR awards poll, specially Dave Weston aka Magnet Man without a doubt the funniest moment of the year in my oppinion.Or was it Ian describing how he had his man wash with a coffee cup?
A big thankyou to my design team for coming up with the Thor/Thz armour design, Alex is very happy that it remained intact as it means that he can now have his mattress back. It must also be said that Thor and Thz cant be all that after all as I made my first attempt at welding today ( under the supervision of Dr Scorpion ) and neither of them managed to break my welds. :D
Its been a long hard year on the Robots, the car and the wallet, but cant wait for Barnsley.Have a great Christmas and we will see you all next year.

Forgot to say thanks to Luke for the birthday cake and the offer of Smidsy so I can drive a heavyweight against Alex.Best comment of the day was Luke to Wendy and Jess when he said he couldn't carry the plate of cake as he would eat it all. :) :) :)
By the way Luke when are we getting the next instruction video?

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Well guys€¦.. that€™s a wrap !!!
What a year 2009 has been, full of many high and low points€¦ starting the year with a sold out Barnsley, moving to cardif loosing a load, riding through the credit crunch€¦. To making severe changes to things and turning it around.
Wouldn€™t have done that without the support of the roboteers€¦ and of course my hard working crew !! Thankyou to all.
Ok so we started the event off with problems€¦ it actually started Friday night, after I didn€™t get back from work in time to pick up the trucks Friday night, then Saturday morning, two cars were parked in front of the roller shutters at the unit€¦. Leaving only 1.5 free to reverse the truck up at to get the stuff out from both sides€¦. And then of course the theft.
But enough of that, we ended the year with a bang !!
Well done to THZ on becoming champion yet again, although your cheap shot at MD has been noted. MD did have the last laugh though as he dropped you out of the arena€¦ must have been great for the audience.
Maelstrom unlucky in the final, just goes to show, it doesn€™t matter which place you qualify, you just have to be there !!!
Merlin€¦.. you are the first person to actually lift MD up, too bad your side kick left you to do all the work !!!
So things look good for 2010, there is a new Uk 2010 format champs waiting to be launched which will hopefully see both major event organisors working together to give us a proper year long championship where all events will count !!
Our events are booked, tickets all go on sale next week, and a lot of other things planned !!
Have a good break, and enjoy upgrading your robots for 2010€¦ MD is having it too€¦. Hydraulic pressure raised, hardox armour, heavier hammer€¦. Bring it on !!!
John

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Forgot two other thankyou....
Geoff Thorpe... ( Santa ) worked hard with me week in week out with PR, and having a big box of audio adapters and leads.
Alan Young, for lending us a sound system, saved me having to run to maplins !!! Thanks !
And who ever else ive fogotten !!
To the chavs that stole our gear... a bit of advice.
The mixer / amp unit only has one side working, and the one which does is a bit dodgy.. wouldn€™t trust it to do a big important show.
The projector was a rip off when I bought it from ebay, too much money and crashes now and again, and the other one which is broken, we cant get fixed in the uk, it needs to go to china.
The speakers€¦. They were ok actually, but you€™ve only got one tube to join them together so you€™ll need to get another€¦ I heard boxing is there next week try them !
Oh the speaker stands after every event you loose a little bolt from a leg, and you have to hunt round for one ! Annoying I know sorry !
Strobes€¦. Missed them, however I think stu would have smashed it in the roof, he killed our other lights with feather weights.
We€™ve got the bottle of smoke fluid and the power cable for your new smoke machine, but you need our effects box to make it work as I chopped the wires and adapted it.
Oh but you€™ve got enough cable and adapters to open a maplins shop ! clive !!!!! might need some cable lol
Good news though you€™ve got our pyro pod for using your pyros new in, hope you blow yourself up !
But one piece of equipment which we did miss€¦.. the bolts to bolt the flipper down and could we find any the same length !!

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
John
Thanks to you and your team for another great year of roboting and a good event in Wigan although it was a shame that it was marred by the incident with the vans.
Well done to Terrorhurtz for winning the title another peerless display.
See you all next year
Rob
P.S. There's no point making MD even heavier next year it will just do more damage to your floor when we eventually manage to flip him over
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Looking forward to 2010 guys :)
and about MD, how bout fitting some wheels to the top too, that might be easier than putting it back on its tracks after every flip ;)
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Well done THZ, and congrats to all that got through.
Major Damage did seem to have a bad day with people picking on him, don't worry i'll get you over next time! Anybody got pics/vids of Merlin lifting MD?
See you next year.
Alan

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Well thanks for a great year all...
I have enjoied most of it - honest.....
Im glad i got my arena flipper back on form near the end of the year thanks to jonno
Good job he didn't sort out the DUMP on the flipper to close it fast enough or there would
have been more broken lights :proud:
I think you're all great bunch of people and make the events for me great....
but would like to say a special thank you to Little Devil Team, and Team Toon, and Pyscho Fling and Team Shock,
always making me smile at each event (and cringe haha).

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Just like to say thanks to Roaming Robots for another great event we really enjoyed it!
Well Done to John & Terrorhurtz for winning
It turns out that the driver chip came off of the Wotty, we opened the case to find it lying at the bottom.
Also thanks to Clive for the extra armour we definately needed it.
Finally well done to Matt for winning the feathers with Heatwave (even if I'll never hear the last of it :) )
Thanks Again
Will
P.S- Alex Marler, we have your Tx charger still, PM me and we'll sort it out.

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
As always a big thanks to Jonno and all the crew for their hard work getting the show going under even more stressful conditions than usual, you are appreciated by all the community.
Well done to the Thz team you did a great job and deserved to win on the day.
For those who are interested on how my ramshackle robots did read on
Saint,
I lost the competition fight got pushed into the pit; before I could get out Tilly Evo was pushed on top. So that was the end of that dash for glory. :uhoh:
The saint won the two white board fights Jason (Team Bud) drove the best of those fights.
The big hammer did nothing, except make people smile.
Seraphim did ok for it€™s first time out with the new robot; it climbed out of the pit several times even when Little Hitter had other plans!
The only trouble was the battery pack has a bad joint, in the second to last fight we had intermittent power but still won! But in the competition fight I was driving and it lasted 5 seconds and the power just died and would not come back, so my luck in competition fights has migrated to all weight classes!
Pilgrim that robot went with no problems at all I think the public like to see it going and I was missing it not blocking up the garage, glad to get it home for Christmas.

Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Thanks to Jonno and team for the events this year. A good final to watch and well deserved win for thz.
Cheers for the vids guys, its interesting watching them back again. Looks like Tib had its work cut out being fully against 2 robots! maybe i should lose a tad more weight and go for a clusterbot!!
Or better still we'll be 1 on 1 next yr.....
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Most Entertaining Robot: St Hammer
Thanks for voting for it guys we really appreciate it :D :D
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Hey guys
Thanks for the votes, glad I could make you lot laugh :)
For those not there, The kids were playing with 360's magnet, trying to stick it to Little Hitter to stop the axe from firing, but it was sticking only to the bolts, and someone made a comment it would work better with steel. I took the magnet and hovered it over Satanix, to see how powerful the pull was....it pulled itself out of my hand and latched itself onto the robot, and we tried getting it off, tried moving it to the edgesbut it just snapped back around onto the next face.
Eventually about 5 of us managed to get the magnet off, and someone proceeded to make an art peice out of it :)
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Oii, who you calling a kid?! :)
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
yeh and im taller than Jamie :x
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
It was the kids trying to attach it, Micheal from Team Invade and a few others (I forget :))
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Oh yeah of course, it was the kids trying to sabotage Little Hitter - if Mark or Graeme ask, I wasn't involved. Entirely the kids to blame
-
Re: 6th December - Roaming Robots - Wigan - The FINAL.
Thanks also for voting for Thor to be the Best Improved Robot and us as holding the best event.
I've found out what its like to be on a REAL team after the sucess I had when I had my previous :D:D
