Signed up Pug for the whiteboard fights so it is following the footsteps of Invasion and Critical Damage
We have not signed up just yet. When do the signups close. Need to work out if we can get the new robot ready in time or not.
Also wanted to know if a 10 cell LiPo pack is allowed, if not we will have to use 9.
It is a little unclear in the rules. The min voltage per cell is 3V max is 4.2V so the mean is 3.6V so 10 cells is 36 Volts (within the rules) but commonly it is stated as 3.7V which may not be within the rules. 6.2 states that the event orgainiser can allow higher voltages at their decression.
At the end of the day the maximum voltage is 42V, less than the maximum of a 36V Nicad pack.
Mark - I have just spoken to the FRA regarding this and there are no safety issues regarding running the very slightly higher voltages and so its upto the event organiser.
As long as the regulations regarding the use of Lithium Polymer batteries are abided by (such as charging in a metal container, and a minimum of 2mm metal base on the robot) then we will allow you to run 10cell lipos.
Sign-ups will be closing on February 28th, although numbers of entry will be capped and so sign-ups will likely end sooner. More details regarding number of entries will be posted shortly.
Canary Wharfare has a h in it! lol.
what new robot mark? :)
heard a rumour about a mental full body spinner a while back. im sure it will be good whatever it is.
mark- what you working on?
we signed up MISS TILLY TOO
(Driver Jess Lale)
NOT ON THE LIST
Awww come on Liam throw Pug into the main comp :)
lol ye go on liammmmm
Go on Gary always takes it easy on new robots, he leaves at least 1/2 the wheels intact.:)
Whatever Mark is up to it wont be good for the rest of us!
What is this? An alcohol commercial???
No seriously, Pug wouldnt last very long if it went against a spinner so its entering WBs and Thats That.
ud prob beat a spinner :)
Stop trying to make me ya cheeky bugger!!!!!
75% of the spinners will be out first round - i bet ya :)
£20 says their not! providing they all turn up and enter that is

C Ur doing it again!!!!!
I dinny ken whit ya have against me when there are other 2 robots in the WBs, not just me!
dinny ken whit u wot? lol
na im just kiddin but u pug would beat the spinners
how many spinners r signed up atm?
LJ, Dinny Ken Whit is scottish for Dont Know What, that clear it up? Pug is still going for WBs OK?
iv got nothing against you lol im only joking
DragonStrike signed up thats if it survives Rebel Robots. Otherwise Baramot 2 will come out to play.
I know LJ!
We all know the titles coming to Yorkshire right? So thats narrowed it down to only a few people that are entered so far. Sorry everyone outside Yorkshire
Seriously what robot do you think will be winning the championship this year? Any predictions of the outcome yet?
My moneys on any of the following 5:
Beauty 2
Wedgie
After Shock
360
Flow!
I would like to see 360 Win, Im getting sick of flippers, although it would be interesting to see Flow operate in the RC arena, considering it can hit the RL arena net :P
Ill give it my best shot, but if I can get past Round 2, or take out Little Hitter, thats good enough for me
Little Hitters Axe is worn out but hopefully will be fixed for another round Dave:).
Yes its for Little Spinner 3 and Adrian is right its a full body spinner, allthough not the one I wanted, Graeme said it wouldnt work so gone with a safer option with a motor similar to this:-
http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5139http://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDH...idProduct=5139
Hopefully will be good enough :) just a shame we cant run it on 48V James . Graeme is on with the build and its got a 3mm Ti Base so should be within the LiPo rules. The spinner mech is done, just needs the drive and disc making but that will take some time as its out of a 30kg lump of Aluminium that needs to be 6kg.
That motor is ok but will never reach full potential just read all the large scale model forums you need the right batterys and even more difficult a 300A brushless speed controller other wise you might as well use a smaller lighter motor with a smaller lighter decent 100A controller and still get same power, faster speeds and overall lighter so more weight to work with. Ive looked into this several times with the same conclusion.
Chris - ^_^
any pictures of ls3
No picture of it yet, will just have to wait.
I dont expect to get anywhere near the power they are claiming and we would need 48V for that. See your point about the 300A controller they are not easy to find so we got a 120A one. Our thinking is that a motor bigger than needed will be more reliable when run at less than it full potential. Also we will adjust the clutch so that even when the disc is stalled it wont draw more than 100A so should save the speed controller from producing the magic smoke. Makes finding batteries easier with 100A than 300A.
Reason for using this is simple saw it on ebay, its a thrid the price of a mag s28-150 with about the same speed and power. Dont really need to save the weight as a disc about half the weight of the robot is enough :) Never used a outrunner before so its a bit new to us so will have to see if its good enough. If we do break it then the mag will go in it from LS2.
those hobby city motors have real bad reviews- hopefully urse is abit more reliable.
Done any spin up tests yet? interested to see what the start up power of the larger motors is like..
I went for two high toque high speed motors and geared them down- only after reading real good reviews and seeing them used in other models.
I got two motors of ebay that stated real good specs.. but they burnt out real quick and broke themselfs. Always best to go for a big brand when it comes to brushless. Which esc did you go for? turnigy sentilion?
damn you for having a heavyer disc then me though lol
Motor is similar to the one in the link, the actual make is a Turnigy on not listed on thier website. Also Speed controller is a Turnigy as well.
Graeme has taken the motor apart and said its construction is good, and had the winding glued in by a local rewind company as they were a bit loose and dont want them moving with the shocks. Magnets look well secured as well and with a 12mm Ti shaft through the motor it should be ok.
Not done any spin up tests with the disc, as its not made but done some with it mounted on the Mill and the other side of the clutch in the head. So far never had a spin-up problem (fingers croseed) but have got the acceleration turned to slowest so far.
Not planning on a fast spinner, gone for same speed as the old one so yours probably has more energy.
What was the speed of the old one? i have no idea what mine is running at. Ive done calculations based on dc motors- but i dont think there at all acurate.
Not sure if youve purchased your lipos yet, but ive found a good deal on the BMFA website.
http://www.bmfaclassifieds.co.uk/detail.php?id=77495http://www.bmfaclassifieds.co.uk/detail.php?id=77495
Those outrage packs are usually really good.
Speed of the old one was 2075rpm. We have a speed sensor so can check it easy enough. See profile for pic of new one so far.
Grant, not got the batteries yet but cannot find a 10 cell one that fits so looking for 2 5 cell ones but they look about the right spec.
nice clutch and gear setup to the centre spindle, should drive nice aswell with the 4wd,
if you look into flightpower and thunderpower lipos theres a new range started replacing the old one what are 30c i think, will be alot better with dumping the ampage needed for your system
+2>VOTE KANE ASTON
Swanny, that should stay on the general section, why not create a thread for Kane like Mike.
you know me. as childish as they come :)
Kane i am sure will create his own soon enough. at least i hope he will
James you have mail
