The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Full update coming in an hour or so, just busy with the double XP weekend in City of Heroes at the minute....
Anyway just a few extra things
a) I forgot to mention a 7th vial - wilderness accomodation
and
b) Upon inspection of the plaque of the echidna, it seems to read The left eye is an unidentified jewel found upon the creature. This jewel is very familar to the professor...

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Chapter 3
Dawn arrives far quicker than expected, giving the strangers a chance to inspect the mysterious contents of the shed further. Analysis of the chemical is inconclusive, there are large amounts of unidentified substances in the liquids that would make it impossible to replicate either without further guidance in the matter. Fortunately though, each bottle contains over half a pint of its respective liquid and requires only a drop for each use (in fact it seems to be engineered so adding more has no additional effect)
The Baron€™s hypothesis is proved correct, taking a random vial from an obscure corner of the room (labelled €˜alligator wrestling equipment€™), he tips a tiny object onto the snow and puts a single drop of €˜restorer€™ onto it. Instantly a bizarre pile of body armour, reinforced gloves and a long spiked rope, which the use of is not worth considering expand out from the tiny object. A few seconds later, a drop of reducer restores it to its original pea-size.
An inspection of €˜defensive items€™ seems to be less interesting that expected - 100m of razorwire, a lot of sandbags, a number of chunky wrong iron blockades and single ancient gun turret that would require setting up, plus a few hundred rounds of ammunition.
One of the ice vehicles is also inspected - it is an eight legged robotic contraption with cruel hooks for feet for gripping onto the ice and an insulated clear dome over the top that you sit in, it is remarkably comfy. You suspect you could easily make it onto the village on the map by the evening.
* * * *
You could potentially head North, although you don€™t know what is there beyond cabins like this every few miles along the river. As far as you can tell, if you head North but don€™t follow the river you€™ll be going into barely known territory.
East back over the ridge would lead you to the source of the smoke, of which is still there in a continuous plume.
South along the river leads to that oddly marked village.
Heading west across the hills eventually seems to lead to a major trade road, and there is an inn relatively near where youd join it.
You have the ice veichles which would work equally well across the snow, and also the hot air balloons.
I€™ll answer any further details requested tomorrow.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Where does everybody else think we should go?
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Im tempted to say we go to the village or follow the trade road, so we can meet some people and find out where the bally heck we are.
Wherever we go, I want to drive one of the ice vehicles. I have experience with large mechanical arachnids.

Dirge votes to go to the village, did I find that star fish yet?
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Hi Tracy, welcome to the forum. Perhaps you would like to introduce yourself (in a different topic)?
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Im guessing Im still hovering around in the woods. Ill pump a bit of electricity into the ground that makes me feel uneasy to melt the snow. If I find anything other than a dead giant catfish, Im heading back to the hut either for reinforcements or just to rejoin the group.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I wanna fly back to the stone circles and pick up the Porche 911 I left there.
Drop a bit of reducer on it and stick it in my pocket :lame:

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Are we sponsored by capsule corp now? :)

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Baron Update:
- Likes the idea of travelling to the village, might find more interesting equipment, maybe even some life forms.
- Suggests the notion of dismantling one of the hot air balloons and using the gas burner as a possible flame powered snow blower/melter, and using the rest of the balloon for random uses.
- The flame snowblower could be an effective weapon, and could even be mounted to one of the ice vehicles...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Slightly more than 3 abilities lol, but Ill assume speed and eyesight and just because shes an elf so thats still fine.
Looks fine though, youll enter the sotry as soon as I come up with a decentmeans of doing so...
*****
Perry, quickly taking one of the satchells, goes and recovers his porsche and slips it into the tiny storage device in the bag.
Looking beneath the snow, Frank finds only somethign that isnt quite like anythign he has seen before even in his long career of evil. It looks like ectoplasm, but is black, and particularly foul smelling. Having found no sign of the fish he heads back to the camp...

we dont HAVE to travel as a group right?
make sure I have some shrinking and growing stuff with me so I can acutually USE my Porsche
also use that shrinking stuff on my can of petrol, makes it easier to take with me
I actually wanna head to the village too
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Ill head to the hut and catch up with the others then go on to town.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Yeah you dont have to, but Ill assume you will unless you explicitely state otherwise. Plus if you all go your separate ways itll be more annoying.
You could of course opt to break up into teams to explore and rendevous somewhere later.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus wants to go to the village there might be a bar there. might kop off with an elvin girl.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Eh, what the hey. Tarein shall journey onward to the village as well.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
So all in favour of going to the village?
Makes it easier for me, expressing oppinions on the hot air balloon plans would also be good if possible.
But either way, as it stands, youll go in two of the ice vehicles and Baron will drive one and the Prof the other, with three passengers in each (including Dirges undead dog)
Be sure to say anything else you want from inventory you want later because its a lot fo effort to come back for it.
Speaking of inventories/items in a place - in future if you want a look at them please just ask for what kind of stuff you want to look for (which can just be somethign speicfic eg weapons, armour or just anything of interest to your character)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus wants to find the nearest bar when we reach the village. anyone fancy a keg of old grog.

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Chapter 4
Loading everything together into two of the spider-like vehicles the party sets off along the river. One vehicle has the Baron, Brutus (taking up two seats) Dirge and Cerberus. In the other; Vengeance, Frank, Tarein and Perry.
After a last look at their first home in this strange world, they move out onto the ice. Despite looking somewhat ungainly the vehicles quickly prove their abilities: the feet on the legs are wide but barbed, spreading their weight while giving them excellent traction and steer far better than either of the drivers had anticipated. Somehow the river seems to have frozen right down to its bed, and peering out of the capsule they not only see the lumber lodged into the ground, but fish seemingly frozen solid in mid movement. There is almost certainly something unnatural, although what is a mystery.
They make quick progress and within half an hour they pass the next cabin, slightly smaller than the previous one but otherwise it seems doubtful that it has any provisions further than they already have.
As they pass down the river, they pass a particularly unusual site - the corpse of a bear, frozen solid as it dived into the river - even the splashes it was making seem to have formed some elaborate sculpture as if literally frozen in time.
They travel on further, passing two further huts, one seemingly in ruins, and the entire party suddenly feel sick - Frank recognises it as similar to the site of the Suckers disappearance, but far grander in scale€¦ They move on as quickly as they can€¦
Finally, a beeping from the PDA signals that they are seemingly at the destination, yet to the party it seems if they are still in the centre of the icebound forest. However, upon one banks is the shell of a snail. The shell itself if huge and ancient looking, being perhaps 20ft high with a ten foot diameter opening. Outside the entrance is stuck a pole with some long black and gold ribbons tied to it that flail wildly in the north wind.
All the party can hear is the sounds of the forest - the creaky of the trees, the odd bird and the squeaking of the ice beneath their vehicles, yet a smell on the wind is filled with the rich scent of cinnamon, cloves and other spices and some kind of delicious smelling roast meat€¦

The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
wanna try something, dunno if it will work
Perry controls cold, he can add cold, but Im not sure if he can also ABSORB cold. I wanna go to one of those random frozen fishes and try it out, see if I can free him.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Perry concentrates upon the nearest fish he can see in the river, in this case a pike. It takes a lot more concentration than making it colder , but eventually after a few minutes he manages to create a small pocket of water around the fish and it swims around angrily, still trapped a meter beneath the ice.
Trying it again on a shoal of what appear to be stickleback it seems smaller fish arent able to survive the process (or perhaps werent able to be put in suspended animation as well as the bigger fish and they simple float around dead.
Looking at the rest of the base of the river, perry spots something golden shimmerign in the deep ice...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Baron Update:
-Still interested in turning a hot air balloon into a weapon...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
quote:

Aaron?
Im gonna ask the Baron for some support here. His flame throwing katana should be able to melt most of the ice with less effort than my powers. But since I dont wanna damage the golden... thing, I prupose I take care of the last bit of melting since my powers are cleaner than a flame throwing katana is. I badly wanna see what this golden artifact might be.
How about it Aaron?
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Baron Update:
- Consider it done.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus wonders over to the snail shell and inspects it carefully with katana and wired reflexes on stand by.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
After following their plan through, Perry dives into the water and extracts what appears to be an odd looking golden fish.
To both their surprises, the fish begins to talk to them.
Thank you kind sirs, Im ever so greatful for your freeing me of the ghastly icy imprisonment, it truely was most horrible.
The fish suddenly stops, aware that it is beign stared at by the Baron andthe Penguin.
Oh excuse me, sorry, I must introduce myself, wherever are my manners? I am....
The following sound is rather bizarre and very much unpronounceable. After a brief uncomfortable pause it somehow manages to look embarrassed again.
Im sorry I forgot your tongues dont work the same way.... errr... well call me Balthazaar, Ive used it before when Ive met surface dwellers.... Anyway, I am infact a magic fish, and although my powers are somewhat depleted right now, I am still parly to great knowledge! Oh yes. Anyway, each of you can ask me three questions, as long as the answer is within this world, anythign you like. I would give you more but the Guild of Wishgranting Beasts might revoke my membership if I do, dreadfully sorry, anyway, yes, you Fowl of the cold sea and you, Lord of sitructive scienve may ask me three questions each....errr... Im repeating myself rent I, oh dear, this whole experience has put me in quite the tiz... You may confer with your companions if you so wish but dont feel obliged too

Meanwhile Brutus inspects the huge shell, inside the opening there are arrows carved poiting in, and some strange writing that doesnt look at all familiar. It would also seem that all the devlicious smells are coming from within.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
regroup, in the village, take the golden fish with us, and think of our questions
thats what Id do :proud:
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
ok guys, what 3 questions does everyone think we should ask the golden fish?
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Dirges vote goes to:
1: What is our mission?
2: Where are we?
3: Do you taste good with unions?
ok, maybe not 3. :)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
I just realized (well, Alex told me), we essentially have 6 questions, 3 for Aaron and 3 for me (since, well, we freed that fish)
Im considering to ask what happened to Sucker the Catfish...
expect me to post my 3 question as soon as I made up my mind :proud:
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Im only voting for one question, and thats to ask about the black ectoplasm stuff.
My action for today will be to taser-stun Brutus into unconciousness before he falls into an obvious trap.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Tarein: Well, I think one of the questions we really should know is where we really are right now. Personally, Id like to ask if there is anyone having power over this land, and if there is, where we can find him.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
a question Brutus would like to ask when he regains conciousness is where is the fish man bloke sucker. and thank frank, that did smell good.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Despite his good intention in tasering the troll in unconciousness, the voltage required to knock him out turns out to be considerably higher than anticipated. It does however ruin the huge beings balance and he trips over, with his head sticking hitting the shells insides.
The others witness the head temporarily vanish while still leaving an intact body, with there is a selection of violet sparks in the air from where the head vanished from. However, almost as if nothing happened, the troll got up and revealled himself to be intact, head and all. Even as hed been getting up though hed realised that he had glimpsed what appeared to be torchlight in a cave...
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus brushes himself down and says to frank please dont do that again someone might get hurt still wants to ask where the sucker is. looks in the direction of where he saw the cave and uses his enhanced vision to see if he can see more
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Brutus examines the shell with his enhanced sight. About a foot inside the entire diameter of the tube is filled with magic, rippling gently like the surface of a pool and glowing with a soft violet light. The magic is however utterly invisible using normal vision.
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
Tareins interest has been aroused, and she will walk over to the shell and give it a soft rap on the side with her knuckles, just to see what will happen, any sounds given off by the rap, how tough the material of the shell is, etc.
(Message edited by kodster on July 22, 2008)
-
The Oddestsey II: Return to Odd
After doing the tapping it seems the shell is very tough, you could probably ram into it with one of the ice vehicles and itd do more damage to the vehicle than the shell.
The tap echoes within the shell, but once Tarein taps again, this time past the point of the magic, and there is no sound. It can be assumed that sound cannot pass through the magic.
