Last year, we hosted the FIRA (robot soccer) championships. This year, theyre in China.
So if you remove the soccer guys, were actually 12 robots ahead of last year (466 entries from 2007 after you remove soccer and 12 pounders)

Just looked it up
Swindon 15 HW
Barnsley17 HW
Rumble 23 HW
Oldham 16 HW
Stoke 20 HW
Swindon 8 HW (sideshow)
Dose this mean the UK is the best place to see the Heavy weight robots in action?
:)
Very possibly :)
What happened to the 12 lbers this year?
The event organizer doesnt like the 12s in the big arena...they spend 2 1/2 minutes looking for each other and 30 seconds fighting, if your lucky!
weve diluted the bots over here with LW(23) and MW(20) being very popular, they take away from the heavyweights(only 12) I believe.
matt....
are the middle weights as impressive as the heavyweights in your opinion, or do you have to see the heavyweights for a proper full on fight with a wow factor??
From what I seen a few years ago at robogames the middleweights are just as impressive and a crowd would have a hard time telling the difference between the two.
Perhaps we should look at promoting the weight class over this side of the pond?
thats what i was thinking,... a new challenge !!!
:)
with less strain on your back :)
i always wondered why middleweights are not around, and never taken off. i would have thought they are as impressive to watch as hw, and like you say more manageable transporting.
i say this in the middle of building my new hw
Well...
With johns sandwich, my woody (pic on profile)with help from friends over the water...craigalots tanto jnr and daves creation...that makes four....any more around ??
Didnt alan and dave young have one as well..
Cheers froggy
The only bot that I hope does well is Scissorhands , GO THE AUSSIES !!!
Ive been following Scissorhands build thread over on the Robowars forum - a very cool looking machine that I hope does well :)
Dave has part-talked me into making a middle, and since Ive got a couple of Bosch 400s lying around, it would be a shame to let them accumulate dust :P
Might be next summer before it goes from an idea to existence but by then there should be plenty of opponents for me if theres a nice little blossom of middles coming around now :)

do you have a link jamie?

175 pages worth of posts :)
(not just for Scissorhands, but for Jolt and Chuck too, to name a couple more impressive machines to be produced by builder Nick Martin)
Ive linked to the most recent page, but if you go back a few pages, there are some pictures and videos of Scissorhands in actions around page 172-ish
iv heard a few people are making middleweights for rebel robots
my dad was on about making one so we probably will and i have just got an email off a potential sponsor so they may be helping with parts :)
i have plenty of bosch 400w lying around, loads of metal could soon knock something together, but i would have to wait to see if anyone else was up for it b4 i started building lol
Incidentally, if anyone remembers the US spinner bot F-Bomb being for sale a couple of years back (and Geoff considering bringing it to the UK!!) theres a recent picture of it about half-way down the page in that link I gave. Its been rechristened Relic but that was a tiny distraction compared to the new modification thats been made to it! Glad Im not entering the FWs at Robogames
Ok, arrived well today in San Francisco. Forgot the wallsocket from america to europe, and my razer. Doh. Glad they have one here at the hotel.
If anyone needs me, i can only recieve phonecalls. If you need my number, please ask Mario. Or try to email me on my hotmail.
Ill be staying at the argonaut hotel at fishermans warf.
They seem to have repaired the bridge quite well, after filming X-men 3. :)
The bridge is just a hologram. If you try to cross it, youll fall into the bay.
Its a better use of your time here to buy lots of Alcatraz Athletic Dept. t-shirts and eat crappy Chinese food and over-marketed restaurants in North Beach.
Ok, thanx for the warning. :)
And indeed with 5 the same shops i dont see what one shop has to offer more then the other.
After 2 days i found out theres a an Irisch restaurant/pub just behind my hotel. And they serve Corona aswell. :)
David, what time are we expected to arrive tomorrow?
lots of pics please :):)

Anywhere we can get updates?
http://www.teamstorm.com/blog/index.htmhttp://www.teamstorm.com/blog/index.htm
Yes, we will be regularly updating the blog, a quick report of our first fight against Eugene is already up there. Quite a nasty spinner to start with, would have been nice to get some practice on the steel floor against something a little nicer first but thats the luck of the draw.
A tough fight but we won through with just a few paint scrathes in the end.
Well update the blog again when we next fight which looks like it will be tomorrow now.

Woo! First fight, and win! :)
EDIT: By the way, Tim, Mario says to put Neodymium magnets in the wheels for more control. Just a pointer.

Go Storm! Teach the American spinner that the British can still be popular like they were with Killerhurtz!
By the way, did Envy and Merlin go to this event like I heard they were?
Im a little disapointed with Eugene. It normally gives a better fight than that. Still well done to Team Storm.
Well done guys :)
We couldnt get Merlin there, as we couldnt get the chassis there as luggage. Maybe time to build an Amercian chassis.. :uhoh:
Well done to Storm, Eugene looked to me about the most dangerous, think Sewer Snake might be his biggest problem.
not sure what i was expecting but their didnt seem to be much of an atmosphere
envy and thor were going to go but other commitments took priority. we are looking at going next year but will see. storm looked a bit skittish but did the deed and won which is the main thing. keep it up boys
