Big wheels on a heavyweight
I always liked Stinger but I didn€™t want to copy their design as I have been told it was quite complex, plus I wanted a counterbalance design, how far did stinger go in the RW scene? Barbarous this was an interesting design too I remember the link position was strange plus it never did well against spinners! I haven€™t seen Thundering dose anyone have a pictures?

Big wheels on a heavyweight
craig, i think stinger was one of the top robots on series
always did good i think
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
If Thunderring would have used Hubs like TAN uses, they would have siurvuved longer.
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
I think the chocolate that someone mensioned might have lasted longer! LOL

You believe that Tom. Please do. Dutch series 2, live events in between, Rijswijk 2003 followed by series 7 did prove that the original wheels can take 2 years of abuse before needing repair.
That wheel where Kan Opener took a nibble from still is in use- the same wheel that lost the rim in the Series7 world champ fight against Storm II. And even then, it was still a wheel.

Big wheels on a heavyweight
no, i mean the original thundering wheels, I know all about TANs wheels and how great they are:)

Big wheels on a heavyweight
That€™s the idea Shane hope it works!
By the way just a quick question about the magnet retainers for the Bosch motors, do I have to take the ends off the spring clips for the magnets so the aluminium rings fit flush? I can€™t remember it€™s been so long since I did the Saints motors.
I will probably use the Saint€™s Sidewinder on this one as I don€™t think I will have accumulated the cash for the RoboteQ in time, unless anyone has one going second hand! Also a Spectrum I just missed one a few days ago
:)

Back on Big Wheels: Im not sure Thunderrings are the biggest. Anyone remember a series 4 robot called Saw Point ? HUGE saw blades for wheels. Or Demolition Man...
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
I dont remember Demolition Man but I remember Sawpoint and Im pretty sure Thundering trounces them quite easily. IIRC Sawpoint was a reasonably low-bodied machine (not flat as a pancake but not really tall) but from the pic, Thundering looks massive.
Nice looking hammer Craig :)
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
remember demolition man, kaned it in series 6, not that bigger wheels to be honest.
Xx

Picture on profile, I just did a test on the drive for the Big wheel project, the intermediate shaft for the drive bent, this happened when I went from full right turn to full left hand turn!
It is 12mm silver steel I am going to make it out of 17mm silver steel that should do the trick. Is anyone having problems getting to Technobots website I find its not loading?

-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
OH BTW hope the Rebel Robots thing is going OK, I dont think the Saint and Tanto have met, if I can make it to the event I may fit the saint with its Halo.
:proud:
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
well Im working on it Craig, no saint and Tanto havent met yet and ill be honest it might be a while yet, the event is taking all my time and that is taking time away from Tanto which it does need, you wont be impressed its only got 250mm wheels
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
do u have mags craig?
we can pop them in beast :P
we need the old beast built up aswel! i looked at the shell today tho and theres a few welds split - we just need someone who can weld ally :P
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
nope i had Eteks they make mags look pathetic, but they weigh a tonne
I can weld ally ;)
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
Craig size is not everything.
The Saint got slammed by THZ, Kronic, Big Nipper ..... everyone!
But the old girl keeps going.:)
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
youve not seen tanto have you?
50cm by 55cm by 25cm, and since version 2 its broken down once
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
From the photos I have seen its built like a tank!
Saint Mallet (the new one) if you measure the main body only thats 50*47*37cm not as small as Tanto. is yours the smallest HW robot in the UK? Or is that Mighty Mouse:)
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
Wow, I knew Tanto was small but I didnt realise its smaller than my crusher featherweight (which when I actually get it built will measure 50x55x35cm) But thats where the similarities end I guess :P
Drill motors vs Eteks and 400kg-of-crush 4mm hardox claw vs insanelythickandprettymuchimpenetrable-mm of hardox chassis/body - I think I know which bot would prevail
I believe Tantos also smaller than Mighty Mouse so quite possibly the smallest HW robot in the UK, maybe even the world
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
possibly i couldnt possibly know for sure, think maybe onslaught was smaller, the new tanto is slightly smaller than the last one.
Small is the way forward, small robots = less surface area that means u can have thicker armour, well thats the way i look at it
-
Big wheels on a heavyweight
I think since Onslaught was narrower and longer, as Tanto is shorter and wider, that both are pretty much equal size.
