btw is there any way to refill a soda stream bottle from a compressor? can you get like an adapter or somthing?
seems im here all alone today. are there many yorkshire events?
Hi Tom,
Soda stream bottles should not be refilled by the end user and are not certified to do so.
A sodastream bottle is not to be refilled. Period.
The valve in there can leak after a single use, as it isnt more than a rubber ring with a brass plunger and a spring.
Other point is pressure/volume. A sodastream bottle can take about 400 grams of liquid CO2. That is 208liter of gas. And thats on 55 bar at room temperature.
If you refill those bottles wit low pressure air from a compressor, you store about 6 to 7 liter. And if you refill it up to the allowed 70 bar on air(very expensive compressor), the full bottle contains 42 l.
Paintball bottles with an on/off valve are refillable at the events themselfs, sodastream not.
hey jamie what are Kaizers dimensions? and do u have any pics of it without its armor on?
Hi Tom
Where about in Yorkshire are you
west yorkshire
Leeds
Err, dimensions, off the top of my head are:
400mm long by 360mm wide by 55mm high (75mm at the wheels)
Taking away the front wedge and side rails which basically leaves the main body with all the stuff in it gives a size of 340mm long by 260mm wide.
All the pics I took when I built it are available at:
http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/ayrshirerobotics/Kaizer%20Mk2%20-%20Build/?start=0http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...k2%20-%20Build /?start=0
It took a bit of a bashing at the weekend though and still isnt quite as nippy as Id like so Im thinking of changing to 100mm wheels instead of 75mm ones and replacing the 2mm ali chequer plate (what was I thinking? :)) with a mixture of stainless steel and HDPE - so basically another new rebuild :proud:
i was thinking of going 500 long 350 wide and 90 high using 100mm wheels and setting tags down in the chassis so i can mount some HDPE and hav it sat inside the chassis so its level with the chassis if you know what i mean. so u can see the outside of chassis when your looking at it. dont know if it will be abit weak tho.
If using 100mm wheels, Id suggest going for a chassis height of 80mm if you want invertibility and a reasonable ground clearance. Why? Because the 100mm blue wheels are only really 100mm at the very centre of the tread width where the thin line runs round the middle of them as youll hopefully be able to see http://www.gimsonrobotics.com/shop_w...ert.html>here.
that ring around the outside of the wheel is whats known as flash. its just as the wheel is injection molded under high pressure a little ring of material escapes the mould and so is extra material. The diameter of 100mm will be to the out side of the wheel without the flash. just to give you an example aswell. Venom is still on his first set of wheels from 4 years ago. they were once 63mm diameter and they are around 61/62mm now and he is used on a weekly basis.
When I got my pair through Ewans shop, I put them against a 90mm high body panel, exactly in the middle and the ground clearance out either side was less than the 5mm I expected. So I measured the diameter of them and to me it seemed to be 100mm including the flash.
But then again, I could have made an error in the measurements - Ill check the next time I see the bot :)
They are still great wheels though, dont get me wrong. I hope I didnt come across as trying to say the wheels wear down quickly, just the little flash bit does because its only, like, a millimetre thick - the rest of the wheel will take a helluva lot to wear it down (my bits of flash are now part of my kitchen floor!)
Now need to buy two more 100mm wheels as part of my rebuilding plans :)

as you have probably gathered from my previous posts im looking to build like a rectangle box shaped frame. i will be using around 3800mm of box section just for frame. what size box would you suggest to keep the weight down but keep it strong. i was thinking like 20x20 box with a 2mm wall but its kinda weighty when u have a 4m length and ill only be using like 200-300mm less than the length i got, its the smallest lightest stuff i lying in the rack atm. what you think? 20x20x2 too heavy?
Hi Tom
I am not that far away Barnsley.
I have a 4 wheel drive ram bot. For the frame I have used 20mm Polypro this is also the inner armour of the robot. it has a 4mm ali base. It uses 4 x 18v drill motors for drive run at 24v. The outer armour, front 10mm Ti. sides and rear 4mm hardox Weight 12kg.
what sort of price is it to build somthing like that tho?
found 1 nearly how i want to build mine in team dragon.

yo know much about this bot Tony?
plus i realy love this. whats it made from (thikness) any would that be tough enough to ram and be rammed?

Hi Tom, your first pic is of CBF, one of my first robots. I dont have the chassis anymore, probably on Shane Lales wall of fame. What do you want to know? - 4WD, Gold Motors, bot packs (although did originally run lead acids), electronise speedos, welded steel chassis with armour consisting of bus shelter polycarb. And no I didnt steal it before you ask.
Hi Tom
Refrence my last post that is Dragon 2. As for cost got the polypro from work cost 0. The Ti I scrounged of team Scorpion the Hardox got of team Stratos Fear no cost. the 18v drill motors £12 pound each from Woolworths.
The second pic is of Electric Blue it uses 8mm Polycarb I think . Tatsu welded steel chassie 6mm Polypro for armour
what size square hollow section is used on CBF and dragon 2? if it is hollow section on dragon 2.
if i was to do away with a steel chassis idea and go for 8mm or 10 mm polycarb like Electric Blue do you think it would be suitable for a featherweight rambot?
After you have read my previous post what do you think of this?
motors - £28.80 - 4x 9.6v drill motors - gimson
wheels - £7.00 - 4x 100mm Wheels - gimson
removeable link - £4.19 - 30A Removeable Link - gimson
battery - £20.00ea* - ?x 9.6V 3700mAh - ebay
speed controllers - £100.00* - unsure - Technobots/xbots/ebay
radio gear - £50.00* - unsure - Technobots/ebay
LED - £3.00* - unsure - Technobots/ebay
Charger - £10.00* - unsure - ebay
* means unsure of price
can anyone help out buy filling in my unsure spaces and about those batterys are they good enough and how many would i need or would you choose other batterys? anything that my stand out to be crappy or not right let me know please.
if anyone had any second hand parts that would take the places of things listed i would be interested. anything else you can think of that i might need?
Hi Tom,
My robot whirlpool is very similar to your idea, the chassis is 10mm polycarb and so far has stood up quite well to the battering.
I use 4, 9.6v drills identical to the ones from gimson but I overvolt them to 14.4v.
Batteries- 2x 7.2 ,3700mAh Ni-Mh packs wired to give 14.4v.- We got these from model power for around £15 each.
Speed Controllers- Scorpion XL (xbots sell them)- great speed controller- £85
Radio Gear- we tried the cheap technobots 4ch set but had loads of problems with reception which is why we bought a spektrum.
Charger- X- Peak charger from model power £60 but does many different types of batteries.
Will
Tom, its 12.5mm square box. Got all mine at the time from B&Q. But there are much cheaper places.
will how did you fix the poly carb together and what motor mountings you using?
you got any more pics of the bot? like progress pics or anything?
so would this 12V 3700mAh be better than using a 9.6 for me and would just 1 run my bot?

Tom,
Theres a pic on my profile of how it was a few weeks ago, the batteries inside it were 12v 3700mAh so they should be fine. I found that in the end I didnt need to use 2 as 1 pack would run it for about 1/2 hour.
The chassis is just tapped and bolted together and the motor mounts are the same as the ones James Baker sells. They are cut down though because the height of the body is 5cm.
As for progress pics to see how the chassis was made have a look at Ewans site as it is what used to be Action. http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/action.htmlhttp://www.micro-maul.co.uk/action.html

Started Spending! ! !. paid for radio gear, motor mounts and speed controller so far.
what should i do for a 12v charger for a 12V 3700mAh battery with tamiya style connector?
http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/acatalog/Chargers_Hitec.htmlhttp://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/ac...ers_Hitec.html
One Hitec CG340

One power supply, either O-IP2000 or O-IP2004 as labeled on this page should do the job.
You could change the connectors on the packs yourself to Anderson power poles for example or buy some Tamiya connectors to connect the lot together as-is.

remember that test frame i made? well today i had nothing to do at work so after about 15 cups of tea and reading the same nuts magazine about 6 times i decided to make a body and a little flipper for the test frame. ill post a little vid of it on youtube i have made a weird flipper. if you look at it the rams pull and works on a pivot instead of straight forward push. most i have flipped it a 4lb hammer so far.
right its uploading
Edit:
Test Frame Flipper Video Here

just noticed the body i made is in the video on the floor next to the frame

Looks well made. That layout could be up to 6kg bots, but still those rams are tiny :)
Low pressure pneumatics are fun but expensive so Im finding myself.
ye a 4lb hammer slowed it down alot. im gunna see what i want from you ewan will you be an forum tonight when i find out what i need?
I should be on later. Ive been a bit ill today so Im hanging around.

these any good or wank?
ill need 4 100mm wheels a removeable link 4 motors and maybe sum other stuff dunno yet tho my brains not working and even when it is im still crap
Both those chargers could to the job, but poorly. Both only have two selectable charge rates (meaning you have little choice on how fast you charge your packs and the minimum time youd be able to charge from flat with either of those options would be about three-four hours, assuming a 3700mah pack, not so good for live events). Maybe its best to invest in something of a higher quality, depending how far your budget can stretch.
ewan gimme a price on
4x motors
1x 30a removeable link
4x 100mm wheels
red and black 2.5sqmm silicone cable and red and black 4sqmm silicone cable (this will do to wire it all up right yes?)(dunno how much ill need)
think of owt else ill need?
i got speed controller, radio gear and battery ordered so far.
