What you got in mind Alan?
These are the FRA build rules regarding IC engines but best check with Johno first...
7. Internal combustion Engines [IC] (note: please check that your event allows IC engines.)
7.1.
Fuel capacity is limited to 17floz (500ml).
7.2
Separate fuel tanks must be made of an acceptable type of plastic (e.g. nylon).
7.2.1.
If the tank is integral to the engine assembly and is metal, the cap must be plastic or a plastic pop off seal fitted.
7.2.2.
The tank must be adequately protected from puncture.
7.3.
All fuel lines must be of the correct type and held with the correct type of fittings. They must be routed to minimise the chances of being cut.
7.4.
A return spring must be fitted to the throttle of all IC engines to return the throttle to idle or off in the case of servo breakage or failure. (This is in conjunction with any failsafes.)
7.5.
The output of any engines connected to weapons or drive systems must be coupled through a clutch which will de couple the motor when it is at idle. (This does not include motors used for generators and hydraulic pumps.)
7.6.
All engines must have a method of remotely shutting off.
7.7.
Any robot with liquid fuel and oil should be designed not to leak when inverted. (Minor leakage may be tolerated, however if it affects other robots or becomes a large cleanup issue you will be banned)
7.8.
Use of IC engines other than standard piston type (e.g. turbines etc.) must be pre approved by the event organisers.

Just a very quick note guys,
I am reading whats going on, and I will deal with it all when I get back.
Other priorities at the moment, like my tough decisions every day...
Do i sunbathe by the pool, or do i walk another 100metres to the beach?
What cocktail do get next from the all inclusive bar?
Out of the six restaurants where do i eat?
I just cant decide these things :):)
Till i return

-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Ok answers to your questions now ive caught up on things.
Membership.
Runs from January 1st to December 31st every year.
Which can be purchased via the website.
IC Engines
We will allow them, however they must conform to the FRA rules. They will have to be demonstrated in the arena beforehand, and most importantly, they must be considered safe to run.
Camping
Well, who ever is spreading such rumours should just ask. Currently the camping plot does not have such a facility, but we will be installing portable shower / toilet blocks for the duration.
Robot numbers
Just to clarify, the event will be open for 48 Heavy Weights, and 36 Feather Weights.
Sign ups
You will all be pleased to know that sign ups have gone very well so far. We are currently 80% full so its going to be a very busy event!!!
Lots more info to follow on Friday, including competition rules etc...
Thats it for now.
Regards
John

Nah! not at all. I start my preparation early by knowing who Im likely to be up against and studying the ones I dont know. There is one particular FW Im interested to learn about if its competing and it aint Scorpion Evil! I only know its provisional name which cannot be repeated on a family forum.

Have just had conversation with John about the floor - good news... with 5 days to set the arena up, a plywood layer and then 2 layers of MDF on top it looks like were going to have a flat floor :)

Are we allowed interchangable weapons?
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Guys,
Quick answers to your questions.
Yes the event will most definitely be filmed for a DVD.
Along with some important documents going up on the website this Friday, teams will all receive an email which will confirm their application, and give you access to the roboteers section on the website.
Yes you are allowed interchangeable weapons, however your robot will be weighed in its heaviest configuration.

John

Roboteers,
Emails have just been sent out to all the Roboteers that applied to take part in the 2006 UK Championships. If you have not received an email from us, then email us ASAP at ukchamps@roamingrobots.co.uk to sort it out.

Reads well to me, just a couple of things though:
Children under the age of 16 must be supervised and under the control of a parent or guardian at all times anyone up for supervising me? :lol:
On a slightly more serious note...
Please could you indicate how you deem a robot to be immobilized in various different situations (in pit - but gets out? or maybe one side of drive knocked out?) this seems to be missing from the rules of engagement thingie.
Ill probably get round to doing the interview when Ive got a little more time handy.
Cheers Guys
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
I think we all need supervising in the pits... :crazy:
In my mind, a robot is immobile when it is incapable of moving towards the other robot (e.g. attacking). I think traditionally, 30 seconds is the recognised time for being immobile. I dont believe we have had a competition fight where someone has escaped the pit...
Just got to make a cradle now... :wink:

I dont believe we have had a competition fight where someone has escaped the pit...
Merlin v Big Nipper v Mute, Magna final (the 1st Magna).

>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Guys,
If a robot is still moving, then it is deemed to be mobile. Even if one side isnt working, it is still mobile.
A robot who has been pitted, has 30 seconds to get out, if it does within the time, then the fight continues. If not, then they are deemed immobile.
Hope this clarifies it.

The part of the rules that says if a robot is not fighting then it must be removed from the pits. Maybe not having a vehicle for the week, slightly worried about security, ok no one is going to walk off with a heavy but Txs, feathers etc could be go walkies. How secure it the sight and camp area going to be?
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Wicksteed park will be putting extra security on site, to cover both the arena / pits, and campsite.
We will have our truck available if anyone is struggling.
Wed rather things were locked away rather than sat in a marquee thats all.

Hey everyone,
thought this was the best place to post this so here goes, Those of you who know me will know ive become involved in playing rugby to a semi high standard, this has begun to evolve now ,as most things people enjoy doing do, and i have now been given the oppertunity to train in 2 profesional teams over the end of the summer and through out the next season starting september 1st. Rugby has long been a sport ive been eger to break into and now the oppertunity has arrived, so in a spirit of grabbing oppertunity when it presents itself i will be persuing a potential career in rugby. this however means i will miss alot of events due to commitment to matches, so as of the end of the uk championships im going to take a leave of absense as far as the robots are concerned. Im not giving up entirly just so i can focus myself on breaking into a first team posistion that may or may not ever happen. Rest assured i will be back atsome point but the uk champs will see my absense for a while.
this however does not mean im backin out of the uk champs, im seeded and im going to maked damn sure the person that eventually beats Tanto will of worked for it ;)
good luck to eveyone ill be in touch with all those that matter
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
I wish you all the best to succeed in a very competative sport on and off the field. Itll be a bit quiet without you - however with your track record do you really think that rugby is the best career choice for you? :rofl:
-
>>> 23rd-27th August / The RR UK Championships 2
Tanto could be turned into a beast of a wheel chair, for when you finaly break all your bones:)
Best of luck, let us know how you do.
