I hope to be there as well.

Paul, Dont think, Do! Hope to see you, Jackie and your sprogs on Saturday. Louise, Kiara and Tom are coming along as well as Simon Smiff
Andrew, dont bother going over old interview tape. We are not like that in real life. We also have lower parts of our bodies. Mind you, if you saw my BattleBots interview, then anyone who knows me will agree that that was an accurate description of me.
Mike.
Mike, sprogs are not allowed in pubs after nine are they? Would have been nice to have a chauffeur along so I could have a pint or 2 or 3 or ...
Mike: *you* Ill recognise, especially with the cockney accent (IIRC).
Paul: Remind me where youre based? Did you say Maidstone, or am I confusing you with someone else? If so, if youd really like a drink to dull the pain, youre not far off my route (and Im tee-total anyway), with the proviso that my cars a tip and Id probably bend your ear with stupid questions for a lot of the journey.
Offers open, anyway.

Afraid not Andrew, further east along the coast to sunny Southampton. Thanks for the kind offer though.
See you there.
Paul
Indeedy. Hope you can stand the low alcohol levels. :-)

Dolp. Just noticed that its just off (and might even be *on*) the A259. There was me suggesting it might be hard to find - how difficult can *that* be to remember. :-)
Geoff - if that was deliberate, I apologise for my sense of irony not catching up sooner!

Ah, its *Jon* whos in Maidstone. Okay, Im not completely mad. (Jon, message me if *youd* like a lift, but my timekeeping is such that you may only want to consider it if you want to get plastered!)

To all who attend the first meeting of the FRA South Eastern region, I hope that you have a special evening.
It is good to make new friends, especially as you all have a common interest.
Thank you Andy, should be a good evening.
Andrew, who? me? irony...never! :proud:
Jon does not live in Maidstone. He lives in Uptohisneckinit. A nice little town in the darkest depths of Kent. Where men are men and sheep are sh1t scared. Where hot water only comes out of a kettle. Where coal is picked up from the streets, Brass bands play the hovis tune where ever you walk and the internet is just an expression and not a fact/Thats where Jon lives. Ask him.
Now, I will not even try to describe where Geoff comes from but they havent even woke up for the past 1,000 years. A little village called Brigadoone and with such famous residence as Fred Astaire. Geoff, as a child had his own pet Dinosaur.
Mike.
Jaymz (yes that is how he likes people to spell his name) and I will be there, we will be coming from West Kensington so if anyone is still in need of a lift there or back, post here or e-mail me.
Joe Townsend
LOL! Cant remember having one as a pet Mike...But I sure got one as a team mate!!
Whats it like round your house Geoff - do we have to sweep the hay and chickens off the stone floor then sit in a cirle round the fire?
I never once thought that Mike had a cor blimey cockney accent. As I originate from Crawley with its own London dialect I might be harder to understand - however its been tamed by living in Brighton all these years and internationalised by having to make myself understood to unfortunate foreigners who dare to make conversation with me.
I aint been on the telly Andrew but youll recognise me from my FRA profile.
Yep, thats about the strength of it Karoline, stone floor, hay, chickins..Sky tv, home cinima, broadband internet, central heating..just your typical Ashdown Forest mud hut!! :)
Ive had a mildly catastrophic loss of transport. If anyone is able to give me a lift if theyre coming anywhere near the Pulborough, West Sussex area, then that would be enormously sppreciated. If not, Im afraid Ill have to sit this one out. If you can help, gimme a bell on 07792839640. Cheers,
Eddy
Transport regained. Thank God for parents. See you all there.
Hi all, I would like to say that last night was great fun. It was nice to be able to put faces to the names from the forum. I certainly hope that we can do this again in the near future. Perhaps we could meet on a Sunday afternoon, so that those with children could bring them along. The Saltdean Tavern was a great venue, very child friendly. They certainly didnt mind being invaded by our mob.
Jenny Smith
I had a great time last night- really enjoyed it. We must do it again some time soon. Great venue too (once we found it :-). Was good to meet some people for the first time- especially being able to put a face to Andrews Garrard, or at least a Tiddly Winks T-shirt. Had a great time with Joe and Jaymz too. And thanks to Andy Kane for coming aswell. Good to know progress is all good on the insurance front.
Such a big group and it was rude of me not to mingle so I didnt get to say hi to all you lot down the other end of the table(s).....
I have to say one thing though...Ian looked like crap and I was just waiting for him to slide under the table at any moment. Hope youre feeling better now :)
And another thing (didnt think I could stop at saying just one thing)
Next time you ask for a pint of Tetleys Mike Ill make sure you end up with a big pot of tea :proud:
Andrews Garrard? Im not a cluster bot, although if youre going off weight...
Good to see everyone (eventually - knew I shouldnt have said the A259 would make it easy to find the place). 160-ish miles from Debenham, and about 2 1/2 hours, plus a bit if you miss and go through Newhaven, should that information help anyone around Easter. Fortunately, it was only 70 miles back home, which makes Brighton very slightly further away from me than Cambridge (which is why Im hoping the East Anglian group will get their act together too).
Thanks for putting up with my newbie questions (including Mike embarrassing me with a novice error with the pivot point for a flipper - I actually *do* know better, but my first combat part failure seems to have been my brain). Interesting to get such a view of the politics in the roboteering community, too - most of its hidden on this site!
Still, thanks to everyone for a friendly welcome to the FRA. Next time we do this, Ill try to get there earlier and mingle with the other half of the table. :-) (And Karolines right - Ian, you didnt look well; speedy recovery!)
Now the question is whether Ill still be able to match names and faces *next* time... I was expecting a small local pub and six or seven people - not something that seats hundreds and four tables worth of roboteers! Ill know for next time. :-)
Looking forward to seeing many of you in action at Debenham (even though Im going to be restricted to the public bits of the event).
Finally, good to put a face to you too, Eddy! Karoline - oh, *that* posting (when you mentioned it, I was trying to connect the tattoo with the women-in-robotics thread). :-)
When shall we, er, about twenty, meet again?

It was certainly a good meet. We could really do with a pub with a backroom next time, especially if the numbers grow.
Looking forward to the next one.

My Uncle owns a pub in Brook (near Haslemere) which has a function room. It might be a bit North for some people tho. Thoughts? Its the Dog and Pheasant, Brook.
Eddy, that sounds like a discount talking there.
Mike.
Hiya folks, thanks to everyone who turned up, it was a good evening. I think the final body count was 19, nnn..nnn...nnnn...19! (Gedditt??)
I would suggest end of April for the next meeting, a couple of weeks after Debenhams? Eddy, wheres Haslemere?
Looking forward to the next one

Jon.
Also looking forward to it, but advanced warning that Im otherwise occupied on the 24th/25th of April, so if avoiding that weekend would be possible then Id be most chuffed. (Not that Im particularly significant in the grand scheme of things.)

Sometime between debs and wales (I think theres a three week gap between them)- if Andrew is otherwise engaged on the 24th/25th, how about the weekend of the 17th/18th?
Mike- my thinking entirely :-)
Jon-
A general map link of Haslemere- roughly somewhere in between Horsham, Godalming, and Petersfield.

And a map link to the pub itself.

Its not as big as the Saltdean tavern- its a village pub opposite the criket club- that kinda thing. Its nice tho, and they do nice food. I will talk to my uncle this weekend if people so wish ;-)
Ed
One thought: I noticed that there was a lot of soft drink around last time. I dont know how much of that was by choice, and how much of it was people needing to drive home. No skin off my nose, because a) Im teetotal, and b) Id probably drive anyway, but is there any benefit to aiming somewhere easily accessible by public transport?
The tiddlywinks crowd with whom I normally hang out are real ale types, so maybe Im abnormally used to people getting through ten pints in an evening and its not an issue...
17th/18th is good for me, as is the suggested location (other than still being about 70 miles away from my house).

Sorry we couldnt make it guys. Was a bit occupied with someone else in my local :) Will try and make the next one.
Jas
Spoke to my uncle this weekend- the function room is being re-decorated but should be done by the 17th. It will happily hold 20+ ppl. Im slightly concerned the pub car park wont hold 20 peoples worth of cars- I shall scout next time i go up there, but I cant see it being too much of a problem.
As I mentioned, its nothing like the size of the saltdean tavern- it is a village pub, but its nice and friendy, and has the aforementioned function room available. Thoughts?
Eddy
FOOD?? :proud:
They do nice food :-)
COOL!:)
Did a little trip out Brighton way suddenly bring on making you say such things like COOL! ?????
Youll be in your usual habitat for this next social (ie. in the middle of nowhere wid dem der countryfolk). There wont be much space for the cars but Im sure theyll have plenty of parking for your orse n cart :)
Wot, you mean the 4X4 cart with the 225 Detroit horses?
Just coz you dont have to move the sheep and sweep the hay off the stone floor before you park yer fat ass, Dont start getting all urban on me..:proud: You better start showing the proper respect young lady, if you want my help with your little project
:P
oi you two, calm it and go and shovel some horse power!
:P 2U2
Hey Guys, have we had a decision as to our social yet, its not that long to the 17th. Are we going back to the Saltdene Tavern or the country pub.
Perfect timing. I spoke to the country pub today, and the function room is being re-doecorated just after easter, so is unavailable. I dont see a problem with going back to saltdean (especially now that we know where it is :-) as long as we stick more tables together.
We should probably post here so we get a better idea of numbers. Im assuming the same again?
Ill be there.
