I run 4 packs of 9 cells, think I do about 16 mph but not sure I can spin and drive quite quickly
aswell. After a 3 min fight im not normally under 50% battery remaining.

Thanks for info Terry, we've gone for the 5 packs of 8 (might drop to 4 packs if 5 packs is a bit tight), think we used to do 15mph on 24volt as our gear ratio is 6.5:1
New 8mm thick Kevlar top armour is just been shaped, so the hammer bots have something to try and get through :)
Is that Kevlar composited onto the Ti?
The rear centre section where the batteries will sit will have 2mm st/stl base, 8mm kelvar sheet and 4mm grade 5 ti, the top of the side pods will just have the 2mm st/stl base and the 8mm kevlar.
The kevlar is in sheet form and came from barclays bank we were told, the stuff on Mutes sides has last all the battles before we stopped and just needs a reglue and gentle bash with a big hammer to make it good as new :)
Adam, Mute is looking good :)
Adam, hows the rebuild coming on and will Mute be at Guildford? :)
Battery packs built now, so just the rewiring to finish off.
Mute armour is all fitted back on, just need to get some paint on.
Wont be able to make Guildford sorry as I'm on holiday, haven't really looked at the events yet until we get it finished, hopefully should be ready for pretty soon.
Mute has been fully rewired and had it motors and weapons firing for the 1st time since 2005, just need to sort a few more bits out and get the armour fitted back on and it should be ready for a few tests in the arena.
New speedo and battle switches seem to working great, guess we need to check the speedo under load.
Few pics of other stuff we've done for Mute
Mutes new buddy box made from a Wii Nunchuck :)

Mutes new trolley fitted with a motor bike scissor lift for easy loading etc

Nice to see mute back in action, and nice trolley ;).
Will Mute be in Maidstone?
Cheers :proud:
Hopefully we will be, will be nice to see you guys again
Where's the case for the wotty ?
Had to leave the case off to fit speedo in, so its bolted directly to Mutes 6mm Ali chasis, we then fit a 2mm st/stl cover over the speedo and then the side pods fit over that so hopefully its got plenty of protection :)
We had major problems with all the speedo's due to case size and the wotty had the smallest case and still wouldn't fit
Mute finally finished ready for a little run on Saturday in Manchester.
Still need a few mods ready for full robot wars but not to much
Think it looks much better without the old aerial mount on the side pod, makes both sides look the same
Weighed in at around 101kg with 4kg of gas on board :)

Well done lads. Will be good to catch up.
Doh
Was Mute at Worthing in with 13Black? (a long time ago)
Yep it was, I remember seeing a photo on the net a long ago of the 2 bots and I think King B
Good to see Mute is finally back after 8 years of being in its shed :) Adam will Mute be coming to Barnsley next year? Will be good to see it after I remember seeing it at the Edinburgh event in 2004 :)
Looks great, little different since I last saw it back on the show. Also seen you have been drafted for saints and sinners, great too see, got a lot of the old bots in this year :)
Looks great to see this back in contention, I loved the machine when I watched it in New Blood and Series 7 :D
Hi Adam,
Did the fire at Manchester cause serious damage to the watty or did it just damage the wiring? What size of fuse did you have in line?
The wotty was fine, just the molten mess of wires, we got the wotty back last week (very good service) with thicker and double wires, haven't had chance to wire it back in yet.
Haven't got a fuse in the robot
No damage to the Wotty other than melted power leads. And the fuse... it was a length of 6awg wire
Problem started (as far as I can tell) by melting the insulation on the 6awg main power wires, considering our 8awg silocone loom was nearly too hot to hold after the first fight I'd say it was a safe be that the 6awg pvc wire didn't fair too well. The wiring loom was very very very secure and considering Mute ran for a total of about 3 minutes I'd say that wires rubbing together is probably a non starter.
All the power loom is being upgraded to 4awg and two sets of 8awg going in to the wotty so it shouldn't happen again (fingers crossed).
I'm impressed with the A123's though, they can put out a serious amount of juice! The wotty looks like a great bit of kit too - and the repair service is second to none!
How on earth do you melt 6awg!? What sort of current were you drawing!?
Get 5 packs of 8s A123's, join them together in parallel, then strip the insulation off the +ve and -ve wires and touch them together. Poof - molten copper.
By my reconing you'll be able to evapourate a couple of inches of wire like that - although I wouldn't recommend doing anything like I just said - atleast not on purpose anyway.
The LEMs were pulling a good chunck of juice as I think the wotty is set at 150 amps per channel, but I've no idea how much it was acually pulling. All I know is that it was too much for 6awg pvc insulated wire but not enough to damage 8awg silicone. From what I've read off the net its all down to the insulation, pvc insulation ranges from 65°C to 105°C but silicone insulation is good for around 200°C. Our 8awg silicone loom was hot after our first fight so I'd guess that was when the damage was done and in the next fight the 6 awg wire gave up on us.
Has anybody any experience of using Tri-rated wiring? I think it came about in the dawn of solar panels when there was a need for high current but also very thin cable.
Thought we would have a go at building a new bot, will put up a new build thread once we've got more sorted but here's the ram, valves and wheels sorted

Used for many many years in electrical switchgear. Normally used in factory made stuff but I have used it occassionally to get over a problem of space and bending radius etc. It is not a new technology and there are many many tables available to show current ratings of the cable.Quote:

Nah, the end caps would have been 316 St/stl but we had some SMO 254 off cuts lying around so they are made from SMO 254 which is stronger than 316 St/stl, ram comes in at 3.5kg only the main body is aluminiumQuote:

Rear hinged flipper?
Nah, we've got a flipper so going for a full pressure hammer botQuote:

We've only ever worked with full pressure, lets us use smaller rams and our homemade valves, fingers crossed it wont just destroy its self on the 1st fire.
ill get some more pics once I'm back in work, ram and hammer are all mounted into the chasis, just waiting for rack and gears to turn up and we can have a 1st fire :)
Couple new pics of the new bot on Bigconkers.com

Will the ram and hammer arm lie parallel/touching to each other when resting?
That's a serious mechanical disadvantage! If that ram has the power to overcome that it's going to come round with some serious speed!
Yes it will, it should have the power, unless we've missed something, ram is 2½ i/d and axe arm is 520mm from the pivot point, gear is 120mm dia ish
Mute's flippers are based on speed of firing so we've hopefully done the same with this one, it should be fast
New bot is moving along now, think we are going to call it 'Bonk'
