Unless the arena gets very flipper unfriendly, Flippers will keep their part in the UK/EU scene.
Our rules are a tad more benifical with the allowance of CO2.
The really high power Feather flippers use about 6 kg of weight on the weapon, and have more weaponpower than the old guard. The ones that started the OOTA war. Chaos II, Firestorm, Bigger Brother and so on. So the bulldozer brick can have a nasty sting.
Also, Battery tech has improved a lot. Where TAN and Gravity III used 8 kg of SLA, simular machines can do the task with 2 kg of LiFePo4
I requested information from mentorn about the construction of the arena. I had an email back today from James at mentorn informing me the arena floor is made from 6mm steel. Does anyone have any more info as in arena weapons etc?
supernova was always my favourite robot as when it worked well it was destructive. I remember what it did to killalot!
It's not so much the materials the modern flippers are made from it's more the way they're built.
They are keeping it secret. Given the Pit, flipper and Flame Pit set RW apart from BB I would expect those to return but aside from that... no one has a clue.
Hi Guys
I know its frustrating with the time scales being so tight however teams will know very soon.
As far as fairness during the competition is concerned, it will be on another level from previous series of RW I can assure you. Both Mentorn & the BBC are making this a show with integrity so rules cant be bent or broken. As far as the event is concerned, just imagine it being like ours. If your over weight, go and get the hacksaw! :)
Yeah no more anti ...... Devices I turned off after that series even if it was within the rules
Well at least there is one; PulverizeR subscribed for the show. But I agree with you that todays well developed hardox machines could easely take the hits. A few scratches, maybe a small hole, nothing to really be afraid of I guess. I just want to be part of this first new RobotWars and my old PulverizeR could be my ticket in, and I think with a little luck it could still give a good performance. Plans for a new machine are already here for two years now, so next year, who knows?

Really? Sorry but Their was better people than this surely.

I quite like Miss.Scanlon, but I'm not sure about Dara. Funny as he is, as intelligent as he is, I don't know whether he could gee up the crowd like Craig would. After all, it's Robot Wars. Not Robot Tickles, isn't it?
Brilliant news about Dara O'Braian!
In addition to his comedy stuff, he's well known for his work on science-y type things. This ties in very well with the BBCs intention of bringing out the science / engineering behind the machines.
The only thing I'm worrying about, as native Dutch speaker, is that I usually understand less than 40% Mr O'Briain says.
To those complaining about having Dara as the new host, the entire point of this relaunch is to take the show in a new direction. The least we could do is give it a chance. Bear in mind Dara is a big science enthusiast, so there is the opportunity to make the show more informative, just like it was in the early days of the old series.
why not just ask Chris Evans lol I'm as excited as everyone else about it coming back and don't want it to fail, But it seems a bit rushed to me and it's about how the robots have evolved but The Bbc are not exactly giving people much time to build something new.
and now we got this guy who I just find annoying presenting it lol
I agree ady. I don't know about the others who have applied but I still haven't heard back from them - even though I was told Monday of this week would be the day people found out. Which leaves 3 weeks now really, unless they're going to push the event date back a week in March. Which I doubt.
Spoke to Mentorn yesterday and was told we'd hear from them either yesterday afternoon or today.
To quote Clint Eastwood:
"Times ticking pops, and I'm only getting older".
The one good thing about this is robochallenge are involved, that puts me at more ease. The coopers are the guys you want involved in something big like this
Only just seen the teaser vids! Wow Didn't think we would see the old house robots again!
Thanks Ady for your support! There's more teasers to come so keep an eye out :)
gutted we didn't get audience tickets but good luck with it all
edit: We got some and saw it on Friday 11th! twas brill :)
If anybody needs accomodation to go with their audience tickets this cottage is 20 minutes away and available for both weekends.

I didn't know John Bell ran a self-catering place in Dumbarton :P
Well that's filming complete!
Thank you all for your support and the amazing effort you all went to in such short time scales to make this the best return possible to our TV screens! It's been an amazing journey and we have everything crossed that we get commissioned for S2. Thank you all once again!
That photo though. Oh look, it's Noel Sharkey, glad to see he's still judging! Weirdly, I walked past Amanda Sharkey's office today on my way to a robot study at Sheffield Uni. :P
Can't wait for this to appear on TV, and for the apps for (hopefully) S2 next year! :D
