SPOILER ALERT!
The americans screw up and got their fights mixed up.
So as they recapped they showed ALL the fights and their ends...
So be warned.
Looks like I jumped te gun...
They did not screw up, they just skipped 4 fights and hopped right on to the last 16.
here you go folks:

nothing like a little controversy
+1 thanks for updates
So for those there at the filming how much of that controversy with complete control was actual controversy? It felt a lot like a staged setup for the cameras.
Very predictable with tombstone. Counter revolution was not designed for a horizontal disc at all.
The judges must have asked what was in the box and agreed it, tanglement devices have never been allowed ... Worked a treat though !
I saw this mentioned somewhere, maybe it was used as a way of describing to the viewers just why entanglement devices are banned rather than just telling them that they are.
I did also hear that it actually *isn't* in the rules as was mentioned, but it was supposed to be. Think it was an accidental grey area haha...
There was no staging at all during the filming Gary- everything that happened… actually happened.
none of the other teams or producers knew about the net-in-a-box either… we were all watching from a TV screen in the pits and all laughed when it happened and then wondered what was going to happen- the fact the producers made them re-do the fight actually caused more delays etc throughout the filming- so i imagine they weren't happy about it.
Also the refusing to shake hands, the dodgy team costumes and things you'll see in future episodes etc etc was all spur of the moment things that the teams did… the film crew never asked any of us to "act"
It's odd that everyone expects all the controversy to be fake - I guess that's TV for you nowadays with everything else faked. But no, all that actually happened - funnily enough it's still being very heavily discussed between the BB competitors as to what was fair and unfair.
The rules were slightly grey, but I thought pretty self explanatory "squirting glue, throwing fishing line, ball bearings and such are strictly prohibited".
I think that's pretty obvious for nets too. The biggest thing is that it also states in the rules that all weapons and components must be shown and declared during safety checks. The present with net wasn't declared and so was illegal either way.
Fair enough. It was a dirty trick but then again the bar was crap anyway, too big a bore in the middle from what I could see!
The not shaking hands thing was so childish.
I found the rules posted on reddit and I have questions about one part
So what was Chronic and Bulldog planning on using? Is this why they stayed in the reserves and didn't replace Beta?Quote:
• Systems can use Nitrogen (N2) gas or compressed air. CO2 cannot be used.
What is the FRA thought on Nitrogen being safer than CO2? One guy posted that frozen CO2 stays in the system and continues to vent in the pits.
Or they might just be unhappy the CO2 is used in fire extinguishers and might ruin their flames.
Chronic and Bulldog will have been designed to run Nitrogen. They were most likely left as reserves as the show had enough main entrants ready to go ahead as planned.
Ok, thanks. Just thought they should have replaced a British robot with a British robot.
But the rules do seem to be more limiting then what you are used to.
eg, 400 psiQuote:
• The maximum allowed stored pressure is 3000 psi. • The maximum allowed regulated system pressure is 400 psi. • There are no specific restrictions on the system design; however, the pneumatic system must use best practices and commercially available components that are rated for the operating pressures used. •
We were hoping chronic would be the replacement too, but unfortunately it didn't work out that way.
The rules were open to discussion with the producers, Bulldog, Chronic and Bronco all run nitrogen... The English teams regulated down to under 60bar- as thats the maximum rating of their setups (with prior agreement from the EO,) and I'm sure Bronco was running closer to the full pressure limit as I know there system was rated to +3000psi
The rules are different in BattleBots. In terms of the pressure and voltage rules aren't hard limits. With prior approval of listing your conponents, wiring/pneumatics setups you can get approval to run higher. That's what we do on Beta and Alan also did the same for Cronic.
We had to switch to the Nitrogen setup for BB, that was one of the main reasons for building a new chassis rather than just altering the UK one as the bottle has to be huge. We were running at ~50bar/750psi so we could run the same pneumatic system. My understanding on not running CO2 was due to concerns over teams bottle warming before fights (which had happened in the past). Bronco said they were running a similar setup to us but, there's no way they were regulating down as far as we were, to get that power from what look like two 63mm bore rams, they had it cranked up!

I had a conversation with the head safety guy about this and in the end we had to agree to disagree. In my view 3000 psi nitrogen is far more dangerous than 750 psi CO2. They were concerned about warming of CO2 bottles to derive an unfair advantage but there are ways to avoid that without banning CO2. And it was possible to exceed the 3000 psi limit if you could convince safety that you had the expertise to do so. Bronco was running well over that, with full permission to do so.
Bronco was running over 3000psi? That's crazy.
the master used to run at rediculous voltage because mark (cant spell his second name) had a special license if you can show your capable they will let you away with it makes it very difficult to call it an even playing field also explains why tminus sent robots into orbit
Bronco had over 3000 psi in its main tanks. I have no idea what they regulated it down to for the rams.
It's a difficult issue,
If you tune down the rules for everyone to follow you could hamper development of new and interesting ideas. If you let people do what ever they want someone will injure themselves or worse.
I think the rules and exemptions is the best compromise.
personally I have recognised qualifications in lots of relevant subjects for robot construction and so could apply for exemptions but choose not to.
I think many people get confused between equality and uniformity.
Bronco's bottle pressure was 4500psi…not 3000psi
Nice, Tombstone vs Radioactive.
battles at 8:15, 17:15, 28:15 and 37:00 for those like me that can't be bothered with the extra bumph :)
Some incredible battles in there!
The new episode was bad advertising for plastic armour.
Great fights though. If the last two episodes are done right and just as action packed than Battlebots should be back for a second season.
Although that will depend on viewer ratings I suppose.
edit:
Last week 4.2m viewers
Week before 4.8m viewers
If you look in the robotics group on Facebook, the most recent posts are people saying plastic robots suck... Scroll down a bit and you see a photograph I posted of Hysteria's shell. :proud: I don't think the fans will be rooting for me any time soon. Haha.
Well we made something that was outside of the normal robot build. And within 3 weeks it from cad on the screen to a robot, it was a tough build!!
Its a shame we could not have time to fix the bugs with the drive we lost 4 of the 6 drive belts in the first fight and it was bodged together for the tombstone match and did not last very long so it was tough to drive!
I think the HDPE held up not bad considering the way Tombstone rips through pretty much anything it meets lol. It is a shame we could not have had Behemoth with us, I think it would have shown up a few bots in the amazing Battlebox! Oh well!
We had fun and that was the aim we had with Radioactive!
Ant
It was indeed very different to anything previously done.
In the footage they kept repeating that the machine was made out of plastic.
It made it look like only an idiot would use that and still put their machine against tombstone.
I'm glad you had fun, that always is they best thing to get out of these events.
personally i love the style and design of radioactive though i reckon you would have served better with the mighty behemoth there (might have misspelled that) why wasent it allowed
I don't think its fair to compare ghost raptor to a cat. Cats are actually good. And well designed.
I thought Ghost Raptor was a well built and adaptable machine. I've never before seen a spinner lose its spinning weapon, instantly adapt as a lifter/pusher, and win the match.
