Probably the 5a sabertooth and a small lipo, forgot what the other bits are called that I bought when the class got popular before..for armour HDPE and titanium will probably work well in this class.
think some people were using the MFA motors and gearboxes from technoboxes before but might be wrong.
Winning? That'll be underused then.
Beetleweight Napalm Death? Yes. Just yes.
I'm actually really considering building a beetleweight with some of the leftover parts I've got laying about... Got many questions about it though, like what sizes are they usually, what sort of motors/speed controllers would be best and so on, but definitely will be something I'll get involved with somewhere down the line!
Very much like the look of that arena too, didn't realise it was as big as that either!
I think 200mm by 200mm is about average for size, mine is 230mm by 200mm at the moment.
The motors and speed controllers I told Matt about should be sufficient as far as I'm aware.
It is great that a lot of people seem to be interested in the weight class, personally think it has a lot of potential. :)
I design mine to fit on an A4 sheet because materials are abundant in that size on eBay and cheap. Plus you can print off to scale designs.
Quite big at 210mm x 297mm but that's to incorporate the big blade.
My tracked one's 200x200x35mm
Ah, thanks for the help! Got an idea for a machine coming along now, need to get working on that after this feather's done!
It does have a lot of potential, very much like the look of this weight class!
Does the arena have a pit or arena well (for out-of-the-arena's) as well, sounds like a bit of an odd question I know, but I'm thinking ahead design wise!
No pit or well, you'll just have to design something to beat your opponent into submission ;)
There are plans for arena hazards though, so pushy bots can still be useful (just got to make them super powerful and pushy:))
Oh, excellent! And I'm rather hoping that this machine I'm planning will do just that ;)
Going to be a bit of a gamble, I think, but hopefully it'll be a bit of a powerhouse if it does work right!
Been working on Spinza's chassis a bit, here it is with the Lipo in the back and the polycarb sheets top and bottom.
Attachment 3840
Sweet! looks like a fairly balanced machine. How big is the bar going to be?
Cheers. 200mm by 45mm
Just something to keep me ticking over while I wait for parts and money for the eggbeater.
Since Shane is busy making the arena fantastic and generally doing cool things, I've been sent RPM to rewire and rejig.
Got it this morning, and just span it up.. I am very impressed!

I will make up a build (rebuild) diary for it aswell as a bigconkers page soon so I can picture spam :P
Impressive! What might be useful is if you could put up a parts list of what's gone into RPM, that way we can get an idea as to what clearly works :)
Any idea what pulleys and belts are used on the motor? Everything I've found is a bit big and a bit pricey.
I'm using 2.5mm pitch, but I've already snapped a belt.
RPM uses a O ring.
The Bigconkers site will soon have a seperate page dedicated for The Slaughterhouse events, Videos and Pictures. Projects can still be posted on there too. Started the scoring system and got some led score boards working. Need to program them now with their judges buttons. Nipping to maplins later to get some LEDs for the F1 style start board for the fights. Got the first mock ups of the Logo too...Changing it to suit and should have a 2nd mock up soon. I have a brilliant idea too that will add a new dimension to the arena...but need time for that so wont say just yet. still lots to do. Got the mobility scooter project to fit in between all this too. Good job Air is ready for battle. :)

Page for RPM now up.
I like the idea of adding a bit of variety to the arenas! I`m looking forward to seeing the meat hooks snagging a robot in mid-air too.
Driving test of RPM. The wiring needs a fair bit of tidying still.

I've got the first sort of trial of my beetle working. It's made purely out of recycled parts from other machines and bits of things I found laying about the house. The main chassis is kind of made of plywood, but that's not permanent, hopefully. Going to have 2mm aluminium that I've got spare from HardWired as the chassis and main shell, then I'm hoping to find something to make a disc or drum out of for the back (opposite side to the wedge). It's all a work in progress, and will likely end in tears and/or large amounts of fire, but the sentiment's there I suppose.

is that driven on servo and microswitches?. and thats good made completely from recycled parts lying around. I would get some armour on it tho :)
It is indeed! It used to be in HardWired but I'm buying some proper ESCs for it, so I thought I'd rehome it! Handles very nicely considering, the motors are quite torquey but slow so it suits it well :)
And thanks too! I fell quite lucky with some of the things I've found about, like that spare battery and speedo for what will eventually become the weapon! I definitely need to fashion a shell for it too, especially after seeing RPM not a couple of posts earlier... can't see it ending well without any!
I've got some scrap aluminium (same stuff I made HardWired's chassis/shell from) so that should work, I'm hoping... if not, I'll still use it and polish it somewhat excessively haha!
Awesome! I did something almost identical with my real robots motors and gearboxes years ago.
Thanks! The motors themselves are surprisingly good in all honesty, can't see them being a permanent solution (plastic gears and all), but it's free so why not? Easy to mount as well, quite a handy bit of kit! Might be able to find a use for those LEDs that it had too...
I've got a ludicrously oversized but light motor (for this application, anyway) for a drum spinner on the front too, just need to make a decent drum first!
Sounds cool mate, good luck with it :)
Got some parts for my beetle now, and I must say they are looking rather swish :)

Harry, that looks immense! But at the same time, it also looks massive
I know that's probably due in part to it being in the same picture as an AW, but still looks waaay bigger than either of my part-built beetles. What are its dimensions?
It is massive, yeah. More fun that way :P
75mm by 180mm and 17mm thick
How much does that weigh!?
roughly 500g
Looking very nice harry :) looking forward to seeing these robots finished.
Harry has started an interesting rebuild diary here http://www.bigconkers.com/forum/rpm-rebuild hope its helpful to builders to get an idea on how things are mounted and the workings of a battling 1.5kg machine
A quick video of the drive that I'm planning to use in my beetle. Has 4 Pololu motors on 60mm wheels and a 3s Lipo. Currently uses a Sabretooth but I'm planning to swap it for a pair of botbitz or something similar.
Won't be using this design as this was used for my uni project last year but the drive seems perfect for the job.

Sweet! Looks like it can outdrive mine easily :)
Liking that drive Will. Nice
Think its about time i got 180 off the shelf, dust it off and sharpen the teeth :)
Swanny are you still upholding the active weapon rule?
Brilliant! :)
Active weapons are heavily encouraged but not mandatory.
