That's good to hear then if they're around this time - even better if there's a few different tournaments going off!
I mean, I know there's the live events but from the videos I've seen of them, it seems a very different competition when it's the HW champs or what have you - everyone's out for blood haha!
And the winner is? ?
Eruption! Manta runners up, IronAwe 5 in 3rd and Beast in 4th
Thanks everyone for another great weekend!
Well done to Michael and Adrian for their win with Eruption!
Also well done to IA5 and Beast for 3rd and 4th as well as Toxic for getting the nut.
We were really pleased with Manta's performance. For a new robot it seems to be working brilliantly (just need to learn how to drive it now! ;) )
Looking forward to seeing the videos!

Videos on their way up!
Had an amazing time, everything seemed pretty well organised, a good turnout, LOTS of posters to sign :)
Well done Michael, you have every UK championship title in 2013 so far, a feat never achieved by anyone before! But as everyone knows, every champ has it's year! You've had yours, just as Ripper had his in 2011!
Will, you are DEFINITELY cursed. 5 times coming second is... mildly annoying I'd imagine.
Iron-Awe 5 and Beast also did very well to reach the semis. Next year, we'll be up there with you, you'll see!
Congrats to the Browns too, TR2 did excellently, gave IA5 a really tough time! You will be in the finals next year, mark my words!
I was pleased with how Titan did, my driving needs a little practice, and I really need to work on my nerves, but despite this my main opponent was the pit smoke.
Skyfall and Ricochet had on-and-off moments, but they managed to double-team Chuck in the last FW fight, resulting in a victory for Skyfall! I'll probably use what I have of LF3 to add some Ti to it, a little more strength would be nice. Although, I think it will never be a competitive machine, ie, never enter a UK Champs. It just can't handle the impacts. Instead I'm working on a FW Titan, a build thread will be coming your way soon!
It was nice to see BWs getting an outing, fun to watch, but I think the class is so new people don't quite know what works yet. Good to see the Wares as well, wish we could see you more often!
So, next up is Maidstone... Winter Tour here we come! See y'all there!
Many thanks to Alan and the crew for putting on a really enjoyable Championship. Some superb fights all weekend.
Congratulations to Michael and Adrian on another fine performance. Will your time will come ,don't forget it was only the fourth outing for Manta, but if you need any driving tips feel free to ask. Also congratulations go out to Rob and Learo/Mouldy for some top quality battles.
Plans are being made for the winter upgrades for TR2, so fingers crossed for better things next year, but we were really happy to have made the 1/4 finals where we didn't disgrace ourselves whilst losing to Rob with Iron Awe 5.
Toon Raider is in need of major surgery over the winter but there is still life in the old dog yet, and will be around for a few more years.
All the best Team Toon
Thanks alan and robots live it was a great event, some good action in the arena awsell, didnt get through the comp as a
double powered flip with help from will sorted that out ! congrats to the winners and to me as ive got the nut :-)) he he.
some great action going on in the beetle arena aswell, those little things are looking supremely evil there is going to be lots of carnage soon ! quite sure thats the last event this year for me so will be able to do some tweaks to toxic as its not quite sorted yet, also a low power flip is needed, i will sort that out and lots of diy at home over xmas ! see you all soon.
The beetles went down very well. For a first time out it was a good test for all involved. Big big thanks to Robotslive for letting us use the arena at his event. Leicester will see the arena in full glory and might get to do a small first champs but will see.
Will be my last event till Leicester too and looking forward to a new robot to make its debut there.
Well done Eruption, you getting bored of winning yet?
Well done TAT, I will sort you out a copter no worries.
Will..... your just a loser and are destined to lose. Build a decent robot for a change.
Back to the Landrover now I have had enough of you geeks :) especially mouldy and his Moma.
Congratulations to the winner Eruption team Michael and Adrian this is your year indeed.
I did a count of the last 3 fights duration in the comp the total fight time was 18 seconds! the first semi was 5 seconds, the second semi was 6 seconds and the final was an epic 7 seconds.
now that's power!!!
Also a big hand for the for Terry for getting back the nut.
I am sorry I couldn't have been there but the shows are bunched up this time of the year, and I wasn't allowed to come out and play.
Hope to see you at the next one.
6 fights and the total fight time was 30 seconds... That can't be much fun for the audience, or the roboteers.
Imagine paying to see robots fight, sitting down and waiting patiently for the fight to start... The excitement starts to build... 3.... 2.... 1.... Activate... and then 3 seconds later its over. Woohoo or Booo? I'd be in the 'Booo' camp I'm afraid.
Congrats to the winner, but bigger congrats to those who stayed in the arena for 3 minutes - win or lose.
I'm sure it was an excellent show, but come on, 5-20 seconds a fight cant be right. It takes longer to load the robots into the arena!
Bring back the old hexagon arena!
totally agree.
I completely agree... The first show on saturday was one of the best we've ever been to, but the sunday shows seemed to slow down a lot... I feel something big has to be done to counter all these HP flippers, who can very efficiently (but not always excitingly) beat their opponent. I like the idea of going back to the hexagon- maybe with one side for OOTAs, so it takes a bit more than just one ridiculously powerful flip to win a fight.
I'm with you guys. Best fights all weekend had no OOTA's and went the distance. Behemoth, Thor and Big Nipper was a fantastic fight between 3 versatile robots, best fight of the weekend for me
Wooow I was only saying they were powerful flippers!
The fight time thing, I am sure has been noted by the EOs and the FRA executive.
Note to self be careful what you write:uhoh:
Already took steps to overcome the problem for the O2 upgrade in 2011, its called 3 sides of high wires !!
We don't suffer from 6 second fights very often ! :-) and if we do its because of skill ! LOL
Something the Fw champs needs to keep the spinners in the arena for longer too !
You dont suffer from 6 second fights because its a fixed show you do not a uk champs. the only skill you have is ruining Iron Awe 6, oh and some others i better not mention in public.
The best fights are the ones that go the distance, but to beat the big flippers you got to build a big flipper. Then it just all gets boring, How about putting a time limit on ootas for 2014. say...only after 1 minute you can flip a robot out. Before that....you lose. The big flippers might have used a lot of gas and will be more difficult then? Or will that lead to people holding back for that first minute perhaps.
Something needs doing... people say big spinners killed the shows in america... big flippers are ruining them here now... personally i found it very boring, and i've lost all interest in heavyweights now....coming from someone who used to run a heavyweight flipper, and drove one in the comp.
Craig its nothing you said mate it was noted by a few people over the weekend.
id say the event was run well - unfortunately in a uk champs your going to get 5 second fights, due to the nature of it... but it would be nice to have an incentive to make fights last longer at live events.
First of all, a big congratulations to our new champions 'Eruption'! Well done to Manta for making to the final for the 2nd year running. Iron Awe 5 showed us there's still life in the old dog! Well done to Terry for taking home the Challenge Nut, just think that has got to be on your fireplace until March, I bet your Mrs will love it! Big Nipper and Kronic took home the Tag Team, or should I say Kronic and Big Nipper was completely useless! :D
Thank you to everybody who took part, big shout out to the crew, excellent job as always, and those that came early and stopped behind to help with the get-out, think that was the quickest yet, I was at home watching TV at 11.15pm, don't even get back that early when the venue's 1mile from my house!
Didn't get chance to see the Beetles in action, but understand it went well and already some good machines out there, I can see them evolving very quickly!
As for the OOTAs, that's the way the robots have evolved, only thing will alter that is either massive changes to the arena, which compromises the view into the arena, and throws up lots or other issues in regards safety access, other than that your looking at a change in the rules. Its something we're looking into, but in 7 years not one customer has mentioned anything about the length of fights etc.
"I feel something big has to be done to counter all these HP flippers, who can very efficiently (but not always excitingly) beat their opponent"
Shouldn't we applaud them rather then penalise them? Anyway, that's a whole other debate... :D
That's it for the big events this year, Whitwick and Burgess Hill are already booked, along with some new venues and events for 2014!
Once again thank you all for competing, see you next year!
p.s. Will, the invoice for the lights is in the post...
Surely it should be Terry that should get the bill as he broke them trying to keep Toxic in the spotlight
Haha Clive :-D. yep send the bill to me, my address is ......will's house, Kent !
I got home at 12.15 that m6 is useless and at times I was thinking if a flipper on the front of the van might be quite interesting !
As for this flipping business can't the wires be a little higher ? The audience do love the big flips , just throwing around the arena a bit isn't enough anymore they need to see some air :-D
We should fit a tether to every robot anchored to the centre of the arena, then have the tether just the short enough so the robot can't get out the arena! 3 minutes of fun time! Lol!
I'm surprised no one mentioned the floor...
Thanks to Robots Live for another great event. We really enjoyed ourselves even through the stress of a UK champs!
We're thrilled to have won! Seems as if all that checking and tweaking last weekend was justified after all! I think it's fair to say we've had our fair share of luck this year in three major competitions and both Explosion and Eruption have done us proud :)
Really hard luck to Will and Ian. Obviously I'm really happy that Eruption won but I know how it feels to come second and I honestly feel gutted for you both as well. Eruption and Manta are both on a par and that final could really have gone either way... Having said that, only four events in and it's already second in Europe and second in the UK, that's pretty good! You've got to have a bit of luck some day and win a final! Also well done to Rob, Gilbert and IA5. For a robot to be six years old and still doing so well really shows how good it is. Well done to Learo/Mouldy for fourth with Beast and the new tag team champions Kronic and Big Nipper. I'm sure me and Alex will give you a grudge match at some point!
See you all at Maidstone! Will be nice to have a (slightly) more chilled event after a run of three major competitions! :)
Think ceri meant the hall floor.
Yeah he did. Grant: there were about 5 substantial breaks in the hall floor, and one underneath where a support leg was. From what Alan said about the last 1 breakage, that's going to be very costly...
