Depends on what weight class. Satanix goes from empty to battle ready in about 20 minutes :)
When we first built Tormenta 2 it could be disappeared or reappeared in 10 minutes. A few nuts and bolts and it all slides away from itself.
Now that it's seen battle, no chance! Much of what used to be a matter of lightly tapping now requires dropping the machine on the floor to get into place.
Just got the front Armour back.
Weighed Cherub one scale looks like 100 Kg the other scale was 95Kg.
Still will start to grind a few bits off just to make sure (when it gets cooler:uhoh:)
Sorry to bump. Craig, may I please borrow two of your SLAs for Newport? Only I don't think the ones I have are holding charge well & I really need to able to run away from Thor.
Of course yes,I will try to remember to take some, Why would you want to run away from Thor?:proud:
Dose anyone have a HSS countersink bit that will fit in a pistol drill about 24mm diameter?
mine are all too small, if so please can you bring it to Newport.
Thanks
That's right if your under it, it can't hit you:proud:
Well I thought I would give some feedback on how Team Saint robots did in the
Robot Wars UK Championships
Saint did very well! it weighed in at just under 95Kg with the feather axe fitted.
it won the first round so made it through to the quarter finals and lost to Iron Awe 5 which is no shame as it is an ex UK champ.
saint didn't have any significant mechanical problems in the weekend only one bearing cap failed this is a regular thing and we keep loads of spares, the Wotty overheated at the end of one fight but then cooled down enough to drive out of the arena after a few minutes.
Cherub went better than I think everyone expected, won the first round too. then lost to Behemoth very quickly, for some reason the lifter mechanism stopped working and Cherub could not self right, got it back to the pits all worked perfectly, don't you just hate that!! It went into a whiteboard fight and worked very well it is fun to see it self right, after the weekend I noticed when packing it away the split link on the lifter was coming apart so I will have to fix that before the next one. but with the wins it means we have 2 robots seeded for next year and neither of them flippers. :proud:
Tron did what Tron dose, it is a bit of a "boring box" but it is tough and reliable and easy to drive. Didn't win never dose, but it gives me something to do in the feather fights.
Seraph won the best feather,
I can't begin to tell you how good this feels. it has been fighting for quite a few years now and has proven to be impossible for any other feather (with the exception of some spinners) to do any damage to, in fact most can't even get close to it! every fight it goes around scoring points off any robot Zack chooses to hit, and still hardly ever gets close in any of the competition finals much to mine and Zack's amazement, but perhaps at least at Robot Wars events the corner has turned and it will be recognised as the design classic I believe it to be. Robot Wars ................. guys we salute you 8)
Kettle bot
I don't know why people like it but they do, we changed the balance on this one and it drives as well forward as it dose backwards!! which has to be an improvement.
Final words have to be many thanks to All at Robot Wars and all our dear friends and fellow roboteers for a truly wonderful weekend.
What weight class is Kettlebot?
Technically it would be in the featherweight class but at only just over two Kilograms I think I'll just let run around outside the arena!
After many years of faithful service it is about time to replace Seraph with a new machine, the reason is the old one is getting tatty and you either rebuild or just make another machine. Gabriel was never very successful so the drive from that is going to be the start of the new Seraph
Attachment 3943
I decided two motors was not enough so I am going to try to marry four motors shared between two wheels!! also I am looking for inspiration for the shape of the new Saint so make the feather and then see how the shape works for the heavyweight. I will keep you posted on the progress.
The battery has arrived 4200 4s LiFe I calculate it should be able to deliver over 120amps It may be a little large for 4 drill motors!! But better to be a little over specification
Attachment 3954
This is a mock-up of the proposed transmission with the motors and the ratio the theoretical torque is a little over 120Nm each wheel! The speed about 150rpm giving a speed of over 8.5mph This is a bit faster than the old Seraph.
Attachment 3955
be very interesting to see how that transmission works out
I didn't have any good pictures of Cherub and was thinking of doing a web site in the future so I decided to smarten it up for the public.:D

I really like the differing chain lengths on the transmission, that's clever! And liking the paint job!
I thought I would give Tron a new paint job beige and purple very Cadillac,I might do a bit more on it like new batteries but for the moment. that will do!:D

Hi
I was going to upload some pictures but the site won't let me at the moment!!
Anyway I have been doing a little on Spiderbot. I have changed the speed controller from one Sidewinder to another Sidewinder! It's a long and boring storey so I wont go into it now. I did have to fit a BEC as I had disconnected the one in this unit a while ago.
The Sidewinder dose seem to work well in Spiderbot,
Still I had a little trouble with the radio gear it is the cheap Technobots gear, normally I have had no problems with it but today it seemed to keep loosing it's centre, so with the stick in neutral it would creep forward, then a little later with the stick in neutral it would creep backwards. changed the radio to Spectrum DX5e and all is well.
The machine works and I can get my pictures on the forum again, thanks Kane for all your work making this happen.
As always the quiet hero!!

Above is a picture of the replaced speed controller and the two Rxs the one that is staying is the Spectrum one.

New battery retaining bar small thing, but the small things let you down.

Just a nice picture of Spiderbot.:D
This is cool. Full stop.
Lots of people have asked about Kettlebot and the drive used so I thought I would try to post links to the different bits

I hope this helps someone and looking forward to domestic appliance robots on the scene soon:mrgreen:
I wish I had finished the roasting dish of doom.
I have been doing some modifications to the front of Cherub as it has problems moving with another robot "on board."
The reason is the front of the robot is weighed down too much and the front plough digs in the arena floor and stops Cherub from moving.
If I make the front higher then I would not get under anything and if I leave it I won't be able to move to drop the robots that has been caught into the pit!
The solution to this is to have retractable front wheels.
I have fitted to the lifting shaft, a cam that engages the follower that is attached to another set of wheels under the front of the robot.
When the lift arm is horizontal the cam is disengaged and the robot is on it's castors as normal, and when the arms are vertical the cam is fully engaged lifting the front of the robot about 8-10mm off the arena floor!
This should be enough to release the front of the robot and make it possible to move with the extra weight.

That's a genius idea Craig, nice one :).
Agreed, that's brilliant!
That's it the new titanium broad sword ready for next weekend.

To quote Peter Giffin: "That is freakin' sweet!"
Not much happening on the forum at the moment so I thought I would just write a few things down.
The Maidstone weekend
This was a very good weekend for Team Saint we won the qualifier fight with Eruption. Zack’s driving was a master class in axel bot control, and the fight with Ripper was a little unlucky as Saint was winning up till it was ejected out of the arena, and as soon as Saint left, the drive on Ripper failed on one side, if only it had bounced into the arena!
The Ti Broad Sword was a big (please forgive the pun) HIT!! We are defiantly keeping that puppy:mrgreen: The advantage is Saint doesn’t have to get too close to the opponent as the sword is 4 feet long!
Cherub Got out of the pit exactly as I had designed it to, well chuffed. Also the retractable front wheels didn't break and it seemed to cope with a rather uneven floor so that's all good.
Seraph did stop in some of the Feather fights. I am going to change the wiring completely and try again, still waiting on some parts for the new Seraph hopefully it will be playing in the New Year.
Tron did well again noticed only by me, driving still needs work, I am still not happy with the battery, I may go LiPo.
I am starting to do a few bits on the new Saint too Hope to get that going before the end of summer 2014.
Which motors do you use in Seraph?

Here are some pictures of the motor gearbox drives for Seraph. I don't know the power of the motors but estimate about 150w. Bottom line they are more powerful than we need! we tend to run Seraph with the DX5e Tx on the low setting and a deliberately low capacity battery pack. even then we have more than enough power the wheels almost never stall. I believe these are the same motors used in motorised golf trolleys.
I thought at first they were wheelchair motors lol. Are those hubs home-made? And is it your own wheels you use with mountain bike tyres on?
Hubs made out of 6mm 40 tooth sprockets teeth machined off, then drilled and tapped 8mm.
Wheels RG1000 from plastics direct 8mm thick I think.
Tyres are bike tyres to fit wheel, diameter is 500mm.
That's cool, do you ever get wheel damage with them being exposed? I want to have exposed wheels on my heavyweight thwacker but worried about Thor etc.
The Saint has wheels 600mm diameter made from 12mm RG1000 plastic, they have been on Saint most of it's fighting life and are still good.
We have never tapped out of any fight with anyone. If Thor is in a Whiteboard we go in as well. Love the toe to toe fighting.
If you are worried about damage ........................ take up Golf!
Haha good point!
I was wondering if people running heavyweights have any experience good or bad with the new Lithium Ion battery packs like these
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...004S-30(1).jpg
I have heard they have begun to swell on occasions
I have decided to upgrade Saint to better batteries and was going to use the Lithium ion units.
But perhaps I should just go LiPo :)
I was thinking of using 2* 5000mAh 6s 35c in parallel this would be about 23v 10Ah current draw well over 350A
What do you think?
I have got optipower lipos for ceros look great but not tested yet, ????? over hk batterys life expectancy
This is a random question, but after being uber impressed with Seraph at Doncaster I wondered if you had any pictures of the insides of it and like how it goes together and everything :D You can tell me to buzz off if you want to lol I was just really curious and I didn't get chance to get a good look at it :)
Bullfrog runs on 5S packs, 2 in series to get 33V 2 parallel to have 8400mAh.
2 years in use, and yes, swollen a bit. The LiPo testers we have all say "still in great shape".
Shock mounting is very important tough.
Tough As Nails runs on 4 5S 5000mAh Turnegy nanotech packs. 2 series 2 parallel delivering 37V 10ah. But after 2 events it's not really clear if it's the right way to go.
Hi
There isn't much in Seraph to look at!! most of it is foam rubber to shock proof the battery and electronics.
Coincidently I have just changed some of the insides. It used to have a wotty 100 speed controller and a spectrum RX I have just fitted in a pair of Botz Bits 85A speed controllers, V-tail mixer and another RX that binds a bit easier.........Hopefully.
The robot has had this anoying fault of just stopping in the midle of a fight ............ get it to the bench and it works fine.
Thanks for the info on the LiPo v Li-ion I am inclined to go for quality LiPo but will keep options open as long as i can What charger do you use I remember it was a 4 channel unit?
