With all these talks mentioned, I was really looking forward to attending picking up some good tips.
But I've only just realised I'm already busy that weekend. Got a Lord of the Rings all night back-to-back movie marathon at a Glasgow cinema (yeah I'm that cool 8) ). Normally robot events win out over most other occasions, but I've already got tickets booked for this and love the movies too much to pass on it.
I look forward to the videos, especially Ian Lewis's inspiring design talk :)
do we need to register the robots before the event to take part in the whiteboards?
Hi Dan, no just bring what ever robots you want to battle with. We will have the email address of the people signed so thats all we need.
Should be a great weekend, Predator will be finished and ready for its first battle!

Everything's started to come together quite nicely now with a good line up of robots (Razer, Beta) on display to take a good look at. I'll up date you with some more info shortly once confirmed, but if your interested in lipo's at all it's worth keeping your eye open.
Which day will razer and beta be there?

Me and Jason will be there on the Sunday...might be able to do the saturday but work dictates that. will bring along Chuck and Yank. Looking forward to it.
For those that haven't seen, the FRA Heavyweight awards will also be presented at this event (I believe the Saturday afternoon/evening?) along with the featherweight awards. So an excuse for a few of the heavyweight teams to pop along.
Shame I cant' make the Sunday, else I would of been tempted to blow the cobwebs off Alpha, and try to have retired it once and for all!

The arena is open on the saturday for whiteboards or testing however that will be in blocks between the workshops in the day. I will be finalising the timetable very soon with more news to come so keep posted.

Just a quick one to inform you that the Owner/Director from OptiPower Lithium batteries will be attending on the Saturday to help out with the Lipo talk that I will be doing. Andy has huge experience with these batteries and has a huge amount of knowledge to pass on, such as how the the C ratings on packs actually match up to the performance you get from them?
I'm really pleased to see Andy able to make it - and even happier to announce the he has very kindly offered a 30% discount on batteries to all FRA member's. Batteries can be collected on the day if you let me/him know before hand.

A slight side... has anyone got any tips for taking a big featherweight on a train? Conker II is 560mm wide and 420mm long, to big for any of my bags or wheely things. Suggestions? Besides on of those big 2 wheel trollies from BnQ.
I picked up a sack truck from B&Q for about £15, we used it to wheel two feathers and a toolbox on around places easily (400x450mm in size).
Buy another ticket for your robot and let it have a seat all to itself 8)
Big suitcase, that's how most are moved about.
Tried it in my biggest suitcase and it fits... just! though there is a bulge out the top where the disc sticks up. Can't wait to try out my new disc setup. Shame Binky wont be running, we could do with a test run on that.

100mm on 3 sides is 45 degree titanium.. so in reality its 360mm wide and 320 long but add the armour and it gets much bigger!

Arrive 11am for open arena
Parking is just out side our workshop and the postcode is B6 7LA. There is a Villa game on in the afternoon so I would recommend bringing a packed lunch as the roads get really busy. Please also bring chairs and a coat. If you have a trestle table that would be brilliant.
We are hoping this event will be really useful to everyone and will definitely be continuing for years to come. If you have Ny questions at all please do ask and we look forward to seeing you all there!

There's been a lot of talk recently about the use and safety of LiPo batteries - particularly now that the FRA are getting closer to making a decision on Lithium batteries in Heavyweights.
Everyone's concerns keep boiling down to What if and What actually happens when a large pack goes up. With this in mind, I have decided that we will be holding a demonstration to show exactly what happens when something goes wrong.
I am donating a number of my own LiPo's, all large 6s 5000mA ( 24v ) packs for destructive testing at our workshop during the Robo Challenge Open day / FRA HW and FW awards.
In this, I hope to show what happens when a pack is punctured, what happens when a pack is shorted, and what happens when one pack in a set goes up. Some of these tests will be done on an MDF base to show the effects of a lipo on an arena floor.
I hope that this will help speed up the process and questions regarding lithium safety at events.
I'm going to have to give this event a miss unfortunately, no running robot and a busy weekend aren't helping.

ive never been to this event but i will this year hopefully, is the robot fights for all weights? (as a spectator) havent quite made a robot yet, got a cool design though
