Re: scruffy
well got all the motor mounts on now, hopefully have it driving soon so i can do a vid but aiming to change the Argos motors for the ryobi once i get round to it ........ at the mo i cant wait to get it finished and drive it head on into a spinner  and see if my weld hold
-
Re: scruffy
does anyone know how thick you need aluminium to stop a crusher/axes as I've bought a 5mm thick piece as my top plate and i'm hoping it will do
-
Re: scruffy
if its a non spinner 5mm should be fine.
maybe too thick cos that.will hold back a few spinners.
-
Re: scruffy
on laser 2 we have 3mm thick ali checkerplate. it is very good as a lid, it survived getting puunded by battleaxe, so I would say it would stand up to all fw hitters, not so sure on crushers as we havent faced any of them.
-
Re: scruffy
ok then the 5mm should do fine
-
Re: scruffy
yay new cordless drills have arrived once there modified the bot should go in a strait line
-
Re: scruffy
ok so far with all main components bar a few bolts the robot weighs 11.55kg and i still need to attach some spikes to the back and a scoop at the front but if my calculations are correct it should come in just under weight, ill hopefully have some pics and a vid up soon maybe of the 2 battling as the is a basketball court near by that ill be great for testing

Re: scruffy
ok new drills are in and top plate is made and main bodywork done so started on the weapons
[attachment=0:1o1vp84j]Photo0183.jpg[/attachment:1o1vp84j]
gonna make 2 more of the bolt on scoops 1 for either side, dunno weather to make them slightly shorter or not though and also intending to to make a few other interchangeable bits for the front just gotta think of something lol .............. any ideas ????????/ :)
oh also done a bit of a test drive on a naff drill pack but waiting on battery's from china for a proper test
-
Re: scruffy
cool man.
if its that wide it would be good to have a scoop along the width
is that 5mm-that looks indestructible!
-
Re: scruffy
the sides are 8mm mild steel, the base is 3mm steel and the top is 5mm aluminium so should be able to take a good beating

Re: scruffy
finally go the speed controllers from china 2 dual motor sing channel to drive my 4x4 bot and here is a vid

and here are the speed controllers id anyone's interested

Re: scruffy
Are you holding back on The throttle a bit, only it seems a bit slow?
-
Re: scruffy
not sure if its the transmitter or the speed controller gonna try a different controller first
-
Re: scruffy
done another test with a different transmitter and it seams to be the same speed might try it on a higher voltage
-
Re: scruffy
found out why it was slow the battery pack i was using was a cheeeeep 1 from china and it wasn't putting enough power through swapped it for the 1 in scruffy and its now about as fast as scruffy

Re: scruffy
built the front scoops yesterday been a bit lazy so ts taken a while i was gonna have 3 but ran out of 8mm steel
-
Re: scruffy
looking good, cut witha grinder?
-
Re: scruffy
yup and welded with stick welder
-
Re: scruffy
OK finally got it all properly wired up and gave it a propper test run with the new battery pack and it will happily push a large wooden post (5x4 x 7feet long) along the floor, so far the cheep Chinese controllers are doing good buy will have to see how they do in combat
im aiming to fight my 2 bot later down on the basket ball court in the village hopefully be able to film it
-
Re: scruffy
just had a fight between my 2 featherweights at the basketball court near us and was very surprised at how well the 4x4 bot did and a bit disappointing at how scruffy drove which i was expecting to come out on top but the 4x4 bot hit it and rolled it over in 1 hit so think i will rename the bot night fury unless its been taken, i am also very impressed by the £15 twin esc that i got from china they barely got warm compared to the battery
scruffy drove grate in a strait line and the lifter worked well but the steering wasn't great and will need some work as it over steers hopefully manage to film the next fight will get battery's charged and see if i get the opportunity soon

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300A-Brushed- ... 611wt_1151
they can actually handle 14.4v
-
Re: scruffy
When you said twin ESC I thought It was a dual controller, I take it you have 2 in your bot. Still a pretty good price!
-
Re: scruffy
yes i am using 2 and i think they work better than the blue 50a esc and i go better control than my other bot with a sabertooth
-
Re: scruffy
is this bit of math correct i found it on the net and used it to see how fast my robot would be
The circumference of the wheel = C in Inches
C*RPM = distance traveled in inches for a minute
C* RPM* 60 = distance traveled in inches for an Hour
(C* RPM * 60)/63360 = MPH
If C is in feet
(C * RPM * 60)/5280 =MPH

Re: scruffy

Re: scruffy
lol thanks looks like its fairly accurate got similar results
-
Re: scruffy
0k so top speed of both bots so far 8.4mph
-
Re: scruffy
I believe the calculator doesn't take into account physical reductions, so your figures will likely be less.
-
Re: scruffy
just had another good battle with the 2 robots, even had an audience ( but forgot to film it again )
anyway found a few more problems to fix, my first robot with the lifter need a different speed controller as the sabertooth just isn't driving it as well as the 1s in my 4x4 robot, i also need to change the hinge for something better as that bent when it got slammed into the fence and i could probably do with some hardox or something along the front of the lifter as it got a bit chewed up
the 4x4 bot did very well again got flipped once and picked up by the scoop on scruffy but it kept on driving, i will need to do some re enforcing to the scoops on the front and the wheels moved on the threaded inserts a bit and the reverse screw came out of 2 of the wheels a bit but have a few ideas on how to fix that, again very impressed by the cheep speed controller will probably get some for scruffy
-
Re: scruffy
when you say the controllers can handle 14.4v is that the nomial voltage of the batteries so when charged they would exceed 14.4v? or did u take that into account?
cheers
-
Re: scruffy
well they say the esc power requirements a 6-14.4v and i used two 7.2v packs in series to make 14.4v, i know the battery technically holds a higher voltage (round 16v) but the esc heatsink was warm ish but the battery was alot warmer and so were the motors were quite warm to and that was after about a 10min battle

Re: scruffy
miner update had to build my own hinge as the previous 1 bent when it got rammed into a fence so shouldn't brake now just waiting on the speed controllers from china to replace the sabertooth 12a 1 that its running at the moment
done a few mods to my 4wd robot night fury maily just a bit of welding on the scoops and and fitting the led's and a miner adjustment to the wheels

Re: scruffy
hi just wandering which orange rx is suppse to fail safe on all channels
