We ditched all others and just use Inventor at work now. Also Little Spinner 3 was designed roughly on inventor, Yes the newer ones need a very high performance graphics cards (£400+) to work well but the older ones like 2008 are better and I have this running quite well on a laptop. The Design Accelerators help when you dont know much as you should for certian things. For example you can just say 2 centers and the power and speed and it will size chains and sprockets for you and then draw them into your design.

Mark, is that an add in? It used to be.

Yes, after 2008 most were removed from the standard editions, but thats why you pay more for the others :) Ive also done a few visual baisc scripts to add in your own tools for repeatative stuff done here, even though I dont actally have it installed on my works PC, its reserved for the mechanical enginners only

Yup, using Inventor 2009 pro for the mods on beta. Works very nicely on a basic nVidia 7900 GS graphics card. 2GB of RAM is fine for most things.

The Pro version of 2009 has the wiring and all the Design Accelerators built in. Great help for designing the belt drive for the sucker - driven by two Scorpion HK4025 brushless motors ~2.5 kwatts each:

(the Astro is to open and close the thottle slide on the intake)
I thought drawing the wiring was a bit OTT at first, but its actually very useful being able to lay things out and figure out how the wires need to be routed.

I would make that with a boss feature:

Using arcs to get the basic shape.
Then use the hole wizard to add the mounting holes:

Then use a chamfer to add the sharp cutting edge:

If you get stuck send me an email.
If you want I could send you the solidworks model of your crusher arm I made to do that stress analysis a while ago.
