Brutus is up for a rumble as per usual.
(Frank: I dont remember mentioning a war? Unless you mean the one thousands of years ago to destroy the lords?)
The man looks saddened for a moment at the question, and then nodds as if resigned to something.
Very well, I shall tell you my tale...
It basically amounts to a story of his young niece being killed in a rampage by one of these great powers. He reveals he only knows one of these creatures at a time, and he only needs the artifact it possesses to divine the location of the next.
This creature apparently dwells in the oldest forest on this planet, far to the north of even where you were before. It only appears at night, and so details of it are difficult to determine but it can be assumed that it is very large and very strong but probably not that intelligent.

Tarein will inquire if there are any details that are known about this creature; it could give us an better idea of what were about to fight, and give us a slight edge.
Also, shell ask if there is a person around this town whose expertise is in magic jewellery, though keeping quiet that we have a hoard of it stashed away. :proud:

we have been sat around here for far too long now and brutus thinks we should go and rumble. brutus fingers are getting twitchy and needs some action. and food
(Alex, you did mention a war:
quote:
He has the head of a silver spear lodged in him from an ancient war which grants him vast power.... )
Anyway, Im interested in fighting this thing but we may need a little time to prepare first, especially if we can get this jewellery sorted and get some magic on everyone. No point fighting when were not optimised.
(For once, I am willing to agree with Brutus on this, although I think talking to the creature before we smash its insides out may be wise to ensure were not in the middle of being screwed over. :P)
its a setup i tells ya. lets just get in there and kick its butt. kill first then ask questions later like
brutus you big oaf why didnt you just wait till i asked a question first
questions schmeshtions
(Frank: Ah, that was some offhand backstory which is probably why I didnt notice it... but its given me some ideas)
The Wizard tries to answer all the questions that he can.
The creature is a wood god of the oldest and biggest forest on the planet. As such, it is very very strong, however, it wont use any equiptment what with it being a nature spirit, and in all liklihood will mostly just try and pummel you with a fist. On the negative side, any kind of direct magical attack is unlikely to achieve much the energy would simply be absorbed. The main threat from it is that it will be very difficult to harm, its skin will likely be like thick bark or stone or some other natural material. The Wizard will give you a device to call it to you, and you will know it when you see it.
The war itself was so long ago that all details are lost, however, in all liklihood it was one of the earliest Fey Crusades - before any technology of note even existed in the multiverse magic had already reached this world, and there were huge wars between various races, elves, trolls, dwarves, dryads, giants and thing that are now only live in nightmares. The spearhead is believed to be one of the few relics left from a race of beings who could spin silver as if it were silk, better at engineering and metal work than the dwarves and more potent in magic and artistry than the elves. Its place lodged in a god of the old world will only have served to empower both sides.
The wizard is also fortunately an adept collector it turns out, and he identifies all but three of the pieces of jewellry.
A ring of stationary location
A necklace of hangover resistance
A ring of enhanced scent (gives you a dog-like sense of smell)
A ring of the flaming talon (allows you to punch with amazing flaming powers upon the wearer shouting falcon punch!)
An earing of selective hearing (lets you hear faint sounds by removing all background sounds)
A ring of paint chip repair
A necklace of alligator skin (turns your skin into that of an alligator for added toughness)
The Pearl Lash - a pearl necklace that magically extends into a grappling hook or whip at will.
He also puts three rings aside and says he will give you 1 million credits for them on the basis you dont know what they are, as even knowledge of them is illegal to those withotu a liscence. The rest are rather inconsequential, being either magicless or of such a minor abilities that they dont do much.
An anklet which can convert coke into pepsi or vise versa
A huge gaudy ring that is enchaned so the wearer cannot get paper cuts
A choker which allows the wearer to summon three normal woodlice once per day.
An anklet which was clearly designed for some exotic species as all it does to any known wearer is make them violently sick until they take it off.
Otherwise unless there are more questions the wizard will give you the device to attract the beast and teleport you to near its location.
(If possible, I would like to claim all of the novelty/inconsequential magic jewelery, and would like to put them all on my...uh...fins...except for the Anklet Of Extremely Violent Nausea, which I shall keep about my person but not wear it)
(For the rest of the plans, I shall go along with the others.)
