Welcome back to Robot SMASH!! , where the Heat H final is about to get underway! But first let€™s look back and see how our two heat finalists got this far:
Axe to Fall teamed up with Hannibal to pit the powerful spinner Mega Masher 2.
Axeon 3.0 was attacked by Wedginator Devilution (15), but fought back strongly and pitted Lethal Injection.
Axe to Fall shocked us all (rhyme intended) by disabling the flipper of Wedginator Devilution (15) before winning by 72-66 decision.
Axeon 3.0 got to grips with Hannibal, striking the elderly robot many times and making plenty of holes in the top armour.
Now they go head to head in a fight to the death, all for a place in the series semi-finals!
I€™m here in the pits now with both teams.
Me: How€™s the axe Martijn?
Martijn: Ready to rumble. The plan is to grip Axeon and drag it into the pit, but I don€™t have high hopes for this one.
Me: Why€™s that?
Martijn: Most of the robot is polycarbonate, and he€™s got one hell of an axe.
Me: But so have you!
Martijn: Thank you, but I can€™t see it going through his armour.
Me: Even if Axe to Fall does crash out here, it€™ll be seeded next time around for reaching a heat final anyway, so it was worth the effort of beating the 15th seed Wedginator Devilution anyway, was it or wasn€™t it?
Martijn: Yes, you€™re right.
Me: Good luck.
Martijn: Thanks.
Me: Hey there Andy, how do you feel about this bout?
Andy: Quietly confident. Axe to Fall is a very good machine and has done well to get this far, but I plan to stop it here.
Me: Do you think Martijn can succeed in pitting you?
Andy: It will be difficult for him, but it€™s not impossible.
Me: Do you think you can beat him?
Andy: I hope so.
Me: Good luck.
Andy: Thanks.
Now we€™re in egg heads corner, with some random guys, one called Professor and the other called Sir. They€™re real names now, because I said so!
Prof.: I can€™t see Axeon going through here, Axe to Fall was very impressive in taking out the seed and that axe is powerful.
Sir: I disagree. Axe to Fall may have done well, but the success ends here. Axeon also got the better of Wedginator, in round 1 and it has the better armour.
Prof.: I bet £1110000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000.89 that Axe to Fall will win.
Sir: I bet $2222222222222222222222222222200000000000000000000 000000.98 that Axe to Fall will lose and Axeon will win.
Prof.: But I€™m British, I don€™t have any use for dollars.
Sir: I€™m British too, but I don€™t go shouting about it!
Prof.: ....

In this, the first all-axes heat final of the series both robots look potent and deadly, with their menacing axe heads almost glowing at the prospect of slamming the other robot at full force to deliver a hit with maximum damage!
And it€™s Axeon immediately on the attack, dodging the front scoop of Axe to Fall and trying to turn and attack from the side, but Martijn turns to meet the attack and so both robots bring their axes down on each other, Axeon€™s going through the 15mm polycarbonate armour of Axe to Fall while Martijn€™s own axe merely dents Andy€™s top armouring. There doesn€™t seem to be any real damage done to the insides of Axe to Fall, but still Andy holds in there and pulls Martijn towards the pit release button! Axe to Fall struggles for a moment, but then Martijn realises the opportunity and slams into Axeon, breaking Andy€™s hold with his axe and getting in underneath the corner of the wedge with that scoop, now slamming Axeon into the pit release button and in doing so flipping Axeon up against the wall with the force of the slam! But Andy self-rights and comes on another side attack, this time succeeding in striking Martijn from side on and once again burying his axe into the semi-barrel shape machine! Things aren€™t looking good for Axe to Fall, and as Axeon holds on in there the two of them struggle to pit the other, but neither drive gets an advantage and the deadly embrace careers onto the killsaws! BZZT! They fly across the arena, and still locked together they bounce along the arena floor and fall into the pit at precisely the same moment!
CEASE!
The judges watch the footage in slow motion, but there€™s no distinction between who goes into the pit first, so we now have to go for a judge€™s decision!

And so we are now halfway through the heats, let€™s take a look back at the tournament so far:
In Heat A Wedge Devolution (1) showed Splinter who€™s boss in the heat semi-final, then saw who it was up against in the heat final- Crash and Burn Tournament 2 champion Sheer Heart Attack 2, who was flipped around and out of the competition.
In Heat B Knyfe looked promising, knocking out the powerful GBOD in round 2, but poor weapon choice in the heat final saw it crash out to Supreme Glory Omega (3).
In Heat C Storm II (5) went into round 2 feeling confident, but in a massive shock a complete novice called Turbo Shredder did plenty of damage and went through to the heat final, where it was pushed around by Cyclone Force 3.
In Heat D Whirligig 4.5 (7) was the one to watch, but in round 2 it was pitted by Orka MK.4, who then dealt with Macduff the 3rd in the heat final.
In Heat E SOR X was the favourite, but it was Back to Rock III who dispatched WORCK-ER (9) in round 2 and then overcame SOR X in the heat final.
In Heat F All Scoop (11) was the fourth seed in a row to drop out of the second round when it was pitted by Mantis, who then defeated Tengu VII in the heat final.
In Heat G Super Gore Evo (13) broke the mould of the last 4 heats by defeating Wedga€™s Revenge to make the heat final, but it couldn€™t emulate Wedge Devolution and Supreme Glory Omega when it€™s tracks were shredded by Metal Sonic Spin Dash in the heat final.
And today in Heat H Wedginator Devilution (15) bowed out to Axe to Fall in the second round, but Axe to Fall fell afoul of the better armoured Axeon 3.0 in the heat final.

Right, just to say it is MEGA Monsoon, in the next heat, not Manic Monsoon. The robot entered into the last series was Mega Monsoon, and it has a spike, not a lifter like Manic Monsoon
Would appreciate a team-up with Leo here, but if not, ram Paralyzation around anyway. Flip it if Im desperate (hint :P), but as always I shall use the flipper mostly if I need to self-right.
I would agree on the team-up. While SZR keeps Paralyzation off balance I go in for the kill.

Tonight will see the return of the number #16 seed Shadow Zone Returns, as the 3rd in a row Kody Kunz seeded robot makes its presence known in the coliseum. The question is, can it become the 3rd seed to make it through to the series semi-finals, or will it crash out early like the 6 robots before it?

This powerful pushing bot really packs a punch with 18HP in the drive and a nice front scoop to get in underneath its opponents, not forgetting the full pressure Toro-style flipper at the rear! But it was clamped easily last time around, and it€™s got no protection from the sides other than its skirts and self-righting mechanisms, and they won€™t ward off attackers.
In RS!!1: Powered through round 1 in style, ramming and flipping Fire and Ice all around the arena to win what was an easy match for the Shadow Zone. But despite a good start in round 2 flipping All Scoop around Steven came back and lifted, axed and pitted Shadow Zone Returns in what was an amazing turn around.

A very interesting design that has the two horizontal discs above one another instead of next to each other; this vanquishes any gyroscopic effects from the weaponry and also the drive is intuitive, with 2 wheels on top and 2 on the bottom that run in reverse directions like Crushtacean to give it an easy route down control. However, the batteries will run out after 4 minutes, so in 5 minute battles it had better watch out, though today it should be OK with the 3 minute fights.

A pretty simple design, a box with a wedge and a drum on the front; this drum is powered by a LEM-130 at 24v, not the optimum voltage, so there could well be power wasted here, and the 2 S28-400S at 24v, however decent a drive that is won€™t help it push Shadow Zone Returns around at all, as he has double that power.

These three robots all look pretty dangerous to me, and Symmetry and Paralyzation both start spinning up from the word SMASH!! , but Paralyzation isn€™t given time to get up to full speed as Kody shoots out of nowhere and slams Paralyzation into the arena side wall with a large CRASH! Kody pins him there for a moment, then reverses for another slam, but Paralyzation is quickly away and gets that drum to speed, but now Shadow Zone goes in on another onslaught, once again getting underneath the side and this time pushing Samuel onto the killsaws! BZZT! Symmetry looks on with both discs spinning at full speed and optimum potential, just waiting for the moment to strike, and it seems that moment is coming as the seed gets under Paralyzation side on for a third time and now goes on a full out ram across the coliseum and delivers him into Symmetry€™s discs!
CRASH!
Paralyzation is knocked flying by that hit, but momentarily seems to be OK, spinning up once again and this time when Kody comes in on the attack Samuel manages to turn that drum into the side of Shadow Zone and rips off a side skirt, also flipping the seed up and over! But Shadow Zone quickly self-rights and rams Paralyzation again, this time getting underneath the front end with the scoop and pushing him up against the pit release button! Paralyzation escapes and spins up again, but he€™s completely forgotten about Symmetry, and Leo now drives into Paralyzation at full speed with both those discs going round like hell!
CRASH!
It doesn€™t matter what armour you have, it€™s only as strong as the bolts that hold it on and suddenly Symmetry is left without a side panel! The internal workings are now exposed, and Shadow Zone runs in underneath again, pushing Paralyzation over to the pit, dumping him in front of it for Symmetry to reverse into Samuel€™s drum spinner and nudge it into the pit of oblivion, where it vanishes from view in a puff of smoke!

A very fast and furious match as Paralyzation is paralysed; Shadow Zone Returns (16) and Symmetry go through!

Me: How do you think that went?
Samuel: Not very well, it€™s badly damaged from that deadly team-up.
Me: Will see Paralyzation back next year, or is that it for this powerful drumbot?
Samuel: We€™ll have to see how well it does in other tournaments and if I make any other robots that could beat it.
Me: Paralyzation 2?
Samuel: Perhaps.
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s hit the coliseum for the next eliminator!

This highly successful flipper/rammer is the champion of majors like NSBFL6 and Pussycat Tribute Tournament 5. If that isn€™t enough, it can choose between a hydraulic lifter and pneumatic flipper for weaponry and the pneumatic option has an electric srimech for self-righting without wasting gas while the hydraulic setup has a small hook for holding onto opponents! Recently it competed in the RS!! Mini-Tournament and came fourth overall.

Another highly successful vapour, this robot packs 60 horsepower into the drive and has a full pressure spike to shove the opposition around and pierce thinner armours. However, it€™s very fast and could be very hard to control properly.
In RS!!1: Looked promising and put up a good fight against Doorstops in round 1, vanquishing one cluster to the pit, but he was outnumbered and pitted.

A powerful tracked robot with great horizontal crushing claws to squeeze the life out of you with 6.25 tonnes of force between them. However, it has the lowest success record of the three robots in this melee being the newest, and lack of experience could see it flushed down the drain here.

Mega Monsoon is very fast off the mark, quickly gaining that 28mph top speed and skidding dangerously around the arena to attack Death Threat 0.2, who dodges the attack and runs into the front of Achilles, starting to get a hold, but before he can Alex flips him over and into the path of Mega Monsoon, who slams into the side of Death Threat at that extreme speed and gets underneath Danny, now going out on a full out slam into the pit release! Death Threat is propelled upwards by the force of the slam, but lands behind Monsoon and quickly grabs hold of Daniel Stickler€™s famous rambot, only to be rammed back across the arena and into the arena wall at the other end!
CRASH!
Death Threat 0.2 is really feeling the pain now, but still holds on and with his better traction almost manages to swing Monsoon onto the killsaws, but the drive in that machine is too strong and Daniel pulls Danny across the arena as he heads for the pit! But now Danny lets go and reverses away, only to find himself backing onto Achilles, who throws him head over heels onto the top of Mega Monsoon, who heads over to the pit and tries to throw Death Threat off the top of him and into the chasm! But Danny drives over the front of Monsoon and gets jabbed by the spike, getting pushed away from the pit and once again into Achilles, who arms in underneath him and pushes him towards the pit, in front of which Mega Monsoon is standing! The three collide and Daniel is almost pushed back into the pit, but he struggles back and out pushes Achilles, and the three machines speed back across the arena into the wall!
CRASH!
Death Threat is knocked free of this deadly embrace, but Monsoon is still underneath Achilles whom it has teamed up with for most of this fight, and Daniel now reverses out from under the PTT5 champion and turns to attack Death Threat again, this time getting the leverage he needs by going right in underneath and pushing Danny across the arena and into the pit in a puff of smoke!
CEASE!
Death Threat 0.2 dies; Achilles and Mega Monsoon whirl on through to round 2!
I€™m here in the pits now with Danny.
Me: I€™m really sad that Death Threat had a round 1 draw as tough as that, I think that if you had had a slightly better draw you could have gone far.
Danny: Maybe, Death Threat has done well recently, winning Heat A in FVAL.
Me: Maybe next season?
Danny: I hope so.
Me: I certainly do, you put up an excellent fight there anyway, not every robot would even last in there with Achilles and Mega Monsoon.
Danny: Thanks.

Will wait to see whether Achilles uses hydraulics or pneumatics.
Probably, given the opposition, hell use the flipper. He may have noticed that hes low enough to possibly get under the sides, and if he uses the flipper, he can keep turning you over, and given hes got a long gas supply than you, you may run out of gas, then he turns to over and leave you, or flips you OOTA.
