Featherweight Database
Im bored so i will post the probable specs of lumberjack:
600g single headed pneumatic axe with buffer tank
and small scoop/shovel.
Two 12v drill motors.
12v ni-cad pack.
20mm peice of HDPE for base of chassis.(Ali box section for the rest.)
6mm HDPE for the armour.
I know the axe isnt very heavy but it has a buffer so that should make up for it.
Dan.

Featherweight Database
So Dan what parts are you waiting on now?
-
Featherweight Database
I am still waiting for the HDPE.But i will be going to B+Q this week to get some ali box section.I will be using one of those ready made woodmans hand axes with the plastic handle to start with. But if it dosnt hold i will take the head off of a full size axe (weighs nearly 1kg) and make a custom titanium arm for it:wink:.What is terrorhurtzs axe arm made from?

Claw in action going through 3mm Ali backed by 4.5mm Polypro.

Nuts, think its time i upped the armour on hornet 2 :)

Tony that is scary - nice one. :)

Let me find that sheet of .5mm C75 hardened spring steel. See how that stands up with the 10mm HDPE as backing.
-
Featherweight Database
Probably not that well when tonys made the good claw:)
-
Featherweight Database
Two questions:
I thought for my axe head it will 3mm steel.
I think this will bend.
So will 6mm stand stand up to it?
Secondly:
Should i use 10mm polycarb or 10mm HDPE for my chassis base?
Thanks.

Well i started designing again on my featherweight. It will be a 1T hydraulic crusher. The jaw was already made 2-3 years ago, so i have to base the design on it.
Heres a picture from the first scetch.
http://www.metalskullrobotics.nl/firestarter.jpghttp://www.metalskullrobotics.nl/firestarter.jpg
The robot will be called Firestarter, as i havent found another robot yet with that name.

i think poly carb will be better as it is stiffer, i think 6mm will be fine but i dont have any axe robots so may be wrong
alex

for an axe robot you need the base as stiff as possible. I would make a metal frame and put that on a polycarb base.

prodigys evil twin (pic on profile)
my daughters first robot and also the first fw i have built and completed from scratch myself (FINISHED AN HOUR AGO!), doesnt look much but pretty chuffed. yes i know its a wedge but i wanted something for her that would be reliable and stand up 2 spinners. its similar to prodigy except its smaller, and alot stronger!!!
she has called it Kahn, after a dalek from doctor who apparantly? it has 6mm mild steel wedge, 15mm poly side armour over 2mm steel, 10mm poly lid. running on 18v drills, weights 11kg. its first outing is Dec 29th at think tank, so she has 3 months to learn to drive it.
i cant believe my 8 year old daughter has a nicer fw than me, and better controllers! something wrong somewhere:lol:

we should be able to pick our own :)
most teams have atleast 2 robots? not sure
but i no big nipper team do and we will have beauty 2 and beauty 3 by then and it wouldnt be fair if we would only be able to fight with 1 in a tag team comp
could be called the tag team championship :P and hold an event once a yr :D

Id stay away from polycard base if possible as Little hitters first armour was 6mm Polycarb and the first test fire of the axe shattared it. The base is Nylon (I think) and is 8mm thick in the middle and ~25mm on the edges to srew the amour on. As for the Axe head it all depends on the power of the axe, but 6mm doesnt seem enough.

Go for an ali base. If i have done my in my head sums correctly then you should be able to get a 4 or 5mm ali base in the same weight as a 10mm polycarb one.
Instead of a flat plate why not use a solid bar ground down to a tip at the front?

Kahn looks great Adrian. I hope you daughter enjoys it.

BonX has used a 6 mm polycarb base for 1,5 years, it finally cracked during RoboGames during this match,

Orange Dave
http://img210.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1028kl6.jpghttp://img210.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1028kl6.jpg
Orange dave is the improvement to red dave. It has four wheel drive and has lifting prongs on the front. It was not quite finished at hemel but I have now put the hardox on it.
It has good armour and stood up to little hitter well.
It has suffered from a few issues though. Weapon siezed up and stoped working. Ni-cad packs are a bit rubbish. One of the speed controllers only worked in one direction. Soon to be inproved with new weapon, batts and speedo.
Stats
Name: Orange dave
weight : 10kg
Armour: 3.2 hardox front, 8mm HDPE every where else and 6mm polycarb + hdpe top
Chassis: 8mm hdpe
Drive: 4 x 12v drill motors
Power: 2 x 7.2v 1.8 amp (i know not enough) race packs giving 14.4.v
Control: 2 x 30 amp electronize 40mhz system
Weapon: Lifting prongs powered by a Wind screen wiper motor

I really like the look of that Marco; to me its got a very industrial look about it and that always looks cool on robots in my eyes :)

It does look good- a tough-looking no-nonsense design. Should go well.

i recognise the little orange fella, was it at Telford last weekend?
-
Featherweight Database
yes it was. The one that was oftern flying from little flipper lol
Thanks a lot for all your comments.
-
Featherweight Database
I most certainly am still talking about bots!
Just a thought, terrorhurtz uses an 8mm steel axe head and a 10mm lexan base.Isnt lexan another name for polycarb?
-
Featherweight Database
I believe/think that Lexan is a commercial name/brand name for polycarb, as is Makrolon. Could be wrong though
-
Featherweight Database
I thought i will post the updated specs of my bot.
Name:Axeadent
Weapon:Axe with 6mm hardened case steel head and a 5mm covered over by 2mm ali(maybe ti) scoop on front.
Chassis:7mm polycarb with ali and ali box section
Armour:7mm polycarb on top and back and 5mm polycarb coverd over by 2mm ali on sides.
Drive:2 x 12v drill motors.
Batteries:12v ni-cad pack.
Control:40mhz 4ch trannsmittter and 25a sonik marine speedos.
Notes:Has buffer tank and 10mm blue wheels.
This setup is for testing and such,as at robo challenge on the 29th december it will have a 14.4v 4400a lithium-ion batt,12v golds(maybe) and a 6 ch futaba trannsmitter.
Am i dreaming?:proud:

im guessing you maent 100mm wheels not 10? why not get a spectrum instead of the set you mentioned? still has 6 channels
alex
-
Featherweight Database
Yeah i meant 100 hehe..........I think i will get the futaba as it is virtuly invunruble to interference as it changes its frequency every 2 milli seconds!
-
Featherweight Database
Futaba DSS is not suitable for robots as it only failsafes on one channel.

oh...........bugger!!!!!!

Featherweight Database
I got a festo 5/3 valve.
I just wanted to know how to connect it to my battleswitch?
-
Featherweight Database
Its a 5/2 valve ( 5 ports / 2 functions ).
What are the Battle switch connections?... pic shows 4 screws/connections but I cant read the graphics.
-
Featherweight Database
Sorry i take so long to get back to you!
Sorry i meant 5/2 valve-my fault!
10a,says by the screws-s1 sc s2 nc.
Any help?
-
Featherweight Database
If i had 6 x 9.6v drill motors what batts would be best?
Would i need 6 speedos to?
Thanks.
Dan.
