Too many motors.
Any suggestions?
Kody, do I have your respect now?
You dont really need more than two motors unless youre doing a rammer...if you lose two motors, you could use a third S28-400 for the blade, or something similar...I still dont get how it selfrights though.

Im not going to grace that with an answer. :P
EDIT: Joey, hes probably talking about gyroscopics, which, at that speed, will cause his blade to come flying off. Either that or hell be bouncing all over the place the entire match. :P

Note: Ill be bouncing all over the place if I get flipped, and once I land on my wheels, I wont bounce everywhere until get flipped again, which is very unlikely due to my skirts.
Wont these skirts hinder your self righting if thats the case?
And gyroscopic forces have always been a bit of a mystic art to me...the only thing I can think of is Mauler, and that was an off balance object rotating. If a balanced object (the blade) is spinning, wont it just stay perfectly still on its head?
No.
If you watch the Redrum vs Tornado Mer fight on youtube, Tornado Mer was flipped, and self-righted due to the fact that no spinner ever lands perfectly upside-down.
Wont a spinner with that much energy kill itself if it hits the floor at full whack, shock proofing or no shock proofing? TM allegedly was defeated by the arena walls quite reguarly, and I think its safe to say it didnt have 138kj...
i Dont know.
Probably.
Rotating Mass vs Unmovable Object
my money will always be on the unmovable object, if that happened in the rebel robots arena youd have no weapon or weapon motor left
Seems the best place to post this without starting a new thread:
How popular are featherweight vapourbots in here? In other words, how many of you have at least one featherweight robot? As I fancy trying my hand a writing a small tournament, just to see how I get on and since I compete in feather events I have a better idea of what can and cant be done, and what impacts the machines (and their weapons) will have on the others (more so than I do with heavies)
If there is enough interest (and after my exams, so end of May/beginning of June) I may look at starting a small 8-robot featherweight vapourbot tourney (will probably allow realies but only if its entered by the person who built it) so if anyone fancies competing and doesnt have a feather, get designing! :)
(And of course if anyone is unsure of what components are popular/effective in feathers, there are plenty of people around here who can point you in the right direction :))
Featherweight vapourbots definitely arent as popular as heavyweight vapourbots, Ill tell you that. I myself do have a featherweight vapour (that old robot I had planned to build, but scrapped quickly due to mistaking the weight :P)
Micro-Gore def needs more playtime, so I will be happy to join this upcoming tournament of yours. :)
Id be interested :) I do plan on bulding my own featherweight someday, so itd be a good source of information.
LOL, I made my own FW vapour this morning!
Id enter Jamie!
Ill post it and my new HW vapour for checking over later, as I feel theyre both probably overweight... Just need to finish the HW one and Ill post them together.

Post it here please. :)
I was going to post it here anyway, as I suspect it is overweight and/or wouldnt work.
Titanium Teeny (FW)
Shape: Box wedge
Weight: 13.6kg
Dimensions: 15 x 15 x 10
Motivation: 4 x vulkalon tyres
Power: 2 x 12v cordless drill motors at 19.6v
Armour: 3mm titanium
Weaponry: Rear hinged titanium flipping arm, powered by 1 x 1.1kg co2 bottle at 250 psi, 1 x 75mm ram
Top Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: Effectively 0 at sides due to 3mm titanium skirts and at front due to wedge, 5mm at rear
Turning Circle: 0
Srimech: The flipper will spring the robot back onto its wheels no problem
Strengths: Good weapon
Weaknesses: Pretty weak armour
And if you dont mind, my new HW vapour as well.
War Drum
Shape: Reverse wedge
Weight: 100kg
Dimensions: (with drum) 100 x 95 x 35
Motivation: 2 x go-kart wheels
Power: 2 x S28-400 magmotors at 24v, 12HP
Armour: 3.25mm hardox
Weaponry: 25kg 20 x 95 x 35 hardox spinning drum, powered by 2 x E-Teks at 48v, gives 165Kj hit and spins vertically so as to flip opponents, can be reversed if robot is flipped
Top Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: 8mm at front and sides, effectively 0 at rear due to wedge
Turning Circle: 0
Srimech: Invertible
Colour: Black, red drum with yellow diagonal stripes
Strengths: Powerful weaponry
Weaknesses: Exposed to flippers at sides
Id say 3mm titanium would be pretty good armour for a featherweight...as for War Drum, two Eteks is probably complete overkill as well as overweight, and there might be problems with having Hardox all around, but its better than Timothy at least. :proud:
I think Liam, you can use a motor that SJ has used in the disc for the highly sucessful YACATR and also in the ring for Psyclonised. Its a LEM200 motor and is lethal - I think its about 18kg in weight and produces 52hp in 48V. Id use that instead of the Eteks. Can anyone correct me if wrong, because if I am wrong, then Liamll be wrong as well if he takes my advice and itll all turn pretty nasty and Ill end up going the same way as Mark (hopefully not, as I dont want to leave :proud:)
...AJ?
Whyd I put SJ down - thats a completely different robot :proud:

Wrong. LEM200s weigh about 11-12kg each (but suck up HUGE amounts of batteries) and give out ~25hp each @ 48v.
Thanks anyway people, I think Ill use LEM-200 at 48v. How many? Would one be enough, or would two be overkill?
Id use one.
One would be enough - two would be overweight as well as overkill :proud:

WAAAAAAAY too small. Thats almost an ant.

You cant fit a 1.1kg bottle in a feather and a 75mm ram (whats the stroke going to be by the way?) and expect to be underweight. Most featherweight roboteers use the 600g bottles in feathers, but ours use the 12oz paintball bottles (300+ grams of co2). I would also lose 2 wheels. Trust me on this, after 4 feathers with active weapons I know you will need every gram you can find.
A 1.1 kg bottle is more than 42cm long with the valve attached.
A regulator , what you need to get 250psi, wont make it any smaller.
What about this interchangeable weaponry bot?:
Interstate
Weight: 100kg
Shape: El Diablo (Battlebots Series 2.0)
Colour: Blue, with I-35 written on the top.
Dimensions: 90cm x 65cm x 30cm
Drive: 4x LEM-130 motors, powered by 6x NiCad Battlepacks.
Locomotion: 4 fully Vulkanized rubber wheels
Armour: 8mm Titanium/Vanadium alloy
Speed: 19mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at sides and back due to skirts, 5mm without skirts, usually 5mm at front.
Turning Circle: 0m
Setup 1: A 10kg Hardox 0mm wedge at the front, designed to kill spinners where they stand.
Setup 2: a 5kg drum, with 10 tiny Hardox teeth, powered by an LEM-200 at 2000rpm, at the front.
Srimech: invertible
Thickness of the front wedge would help, and a rough stating of what the shape actually is would be good for those people like me who dont follow Battlebots. You dont really need 4 LEMS either, as that might put you overweight.
Funny that Marks inventing an interchangable robot, as maybe he should become interchangable and get a different brain :proud:
Ive invented my own interchangable robot, designed mosty to kill spinners, but also other things as well. Give me your honest thoughts on this:
KNYFE
€ WEIGHT: 100kg.
€ ARMOUR: 6mm Hardox monocoque on the rear, top, front and sides. 4mm Titanium on the base. Inside, I have 4cm of Vulkanised rubber to make sure its good when facing spinners.
€ SHAPE: An invertible box shape, with varing front ends. The sides and rear meet at a fine triangualar point
€ MOTORS: 2 x LEM200€™s at 48V = 50HP
€ LOCOMOTION: 6 Vulkanised Wheels.
€ DIMENSIONS: (L) 80CM (H) 30CM (W) 80CM
€ COLOUR: The body is silver with golden edges, and name on top with thck gold outlines for each letter
€ WEAPONRY: Knyfe has weaponry that can be changed around to suite the robots it is facing.
1: A standard concave scoop made from 15mm Hardox, impossible to bend or scratch, and perfect for stopping FBS€™
2: A pair of Hardox spikes with diamond-sharp tips. These spikes are on a hindge, and will flip over if the robot is flipped over, and because these spikes scrap the floor, it€™s impossible to get under it whilst using them.
3: Front wedges, mounted in a similar way to those on forklift trucks, reaching out 10cm, and made of 8mm G5 Titanium, and of course getting thinner as it reaches the end of the wedges. The point of these is to ground other robots on them, and make them easier to push without resistance.
4: A 10mm Titanium static scoop with an extension. This is for getting under other rammers.
5: A 15mm Hardox wedge hindged at 42* with an extension on it, perfect for deflecting vertical spinners and getting under other robots.
€ SPEED: 20mph
€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0-8mm. The front will always be 0, and the sides and rear are protected by 7mm Titanium skirts on a rotary joint that joint at the hindges.
€ STRENGTH: Powerful drives and interchangeable weaponry.
€ WEAKNESS: Wheels might be targets for axes and crushers.
Your spikes scrap arena floors!? :proud: Other than that, no problems that I can see.
quote:
The front will always be 0
Even when upside down?
On choice 2, yes.
It smells overweight, specially option 1. Futhermore, what type of batteries will you use?
*Sniffs Knyfe*
*Takes a bite*
Says with mouth full: It smells overweight, but it tastes like chicken.
I dont usually state batteries, as in fights, the writers arent really bothered about the batteries you use.
I personally think batteries are irrelevent to stats. As long as the writer knows the voltage, thats really all thats needed. If battles often went down to who runs out of battery power first, Id change my viewpoint, but how often does that happen?
It did in my Mini-Tournament, as Leo stated in his stats Symmertrys batteries wouldnt go the distance
2 lem 200s come in at 22kg IIRC.
I really need to know, if a fellow tournament writer could answer this please:
Say someone started an annual tournament called ABC. In the first series, I entered Behemoth and did well enough to be seeded in series 2. But in series 2 I didnt enter Behemoth, but someone else did/it was entered by the writer on a realie team. Would Behemoth still be seeded?
