Right, then perhaps AJ can explain what this wonderful Asmaprene upgrade to urethane is, unless Leo would like to clarify?http://www.asma.at/index.php?l1=11&l2=55http://www.asma.at/index.php?l1=11&l2=55
Google is your friend.
Basically it is a derivative of Polyurethane.

Right...
Rough weight check on Bubonic Plague:
Armour/chassis (plus extension, minus flipper) = ~40kg
Motors = 6.2kg
Batteries = 7.2kg
Wheels and gears and stuff = ~10kg
Flipper (including power and mechanics) = ~12.5kg
Disc (including power and mechanics) = ~20kg
Everything else = ~10kg
By my (very bad) calculations, you are overweight by about 6.2kgs.
If anyone wants to step in and clarify/correct me...?
With all the ~s youre using in this weight check its hardly fair to boldly state the robot will about 6 kgs off in your conclusion. If for every ~ you used your guess is about 1 kg off the robot suddenly is underweight

Paul, I had a look at Inferno on ZED earlier and couldn€™t help but notice some things I wanted to point out. First of all, is all the shock proofing really that necessary? 4cm of rubber seems to be a little bit over the top, even if you are trying to survive 140kJ of impact. 6mm Weldox might be pushing it slightly, but as nobody else has commented on that, you€™re probably fine. My next problem is that you are claiming due to the curving of the panels, the armour cannot be torn. Remember that nothing is impossible... :wink: Next up is the 30mm wheels - I am presuming this is a typo? I€™m pretty sure there are antweights with bigger wheels than that. Onto the disc€¦ why is it so thick? Also, €œteeth non-attached teeth€ doesn€™t make a lot of sense to me. :proud: Did you run the spinner through the Kinetic Energy Calculator to get these figures? As always though, you€™ve come up with a nice idea.
Asmaprene€¦ I€™ve been using it on Exertion for several months now with no complaints. As you can see, it does exist and it is just a variant of rubber, which I decided to introduce as an alternative to Vulkolan. It seems that Samuel noticed and decided he wants to use it too. As you can see on the website, it has €œhigh resistance to grease, oil and hydrolysis and mechanical impact€ and €œexcellent adhesion to metal€Â. Basically, Asmaprene and Vulkolan are quite similar. I believe Mechaniac once used Asmaprene, so it has been tested in robot combat before.
Ben, your robo-zoo is wonderful. :) That is all.

Im assuming that non-attached teeth are like the teeth on The 6isc, where the teeth are simply part of the discs shape rather than welded on.

Thanks about the concept. Its actually an evolution (in my eyes) of Tornado Mer - a low robot, with a spinning bar on top. The bar was powerful, but discs always seemed to be better than bar spinners, so I put a disc on top and called it Inferno :proud:
A number of things I need to get right, so Im going to set them right here for everyone.
When I said, the armour is curved to avoid panels being torn, I didnt mean torn as in cut, I meant torn as in torn off - Its an idea being used by Frank on Masamune as the armour is a large sheet of 6mm Hardox curved over the whole body, so the armour cant just be removed panel by panel. I meant that the 6mm Weldox circumference is 1 panel, so it cant be torn off.
About the padding, I said 1 Inch of PU foam, 1cm of Vulkanised Rubber, and it has 0.5cm of PU foam between each motor, so the motors arent shock-killed.
About the teeth, I meant that the teeth were part of the disc (which is 8mm thick Hardox for durability) so the teeth cant be torn off. Frank is using it on The 6isc, but the main reason I did that is that is weve all heard of the Mauler dance :proud: and I didnt want to risk Inferno loosing a tooth and doing that mad dance.
The wheels are now increased in size to 60mm in diameter - the robot is very small, at 100mm in height, so I cant a wheels equal in size to even Terrorhurtz - he has 130mm wheels, but is 80cm tall, thats why the wheels look so small - but hopefully, Ive gone through all the original faults and corrected them for you all :proud:

That has cleared up a lot of my concerns, thanks.
I€™m still not sure about all the internal rubber, but that€™s your decision. However the description of the disc and teeth is now much more clear. I used that idea on Aneurysm a few years ago. I still think a thickness of 8mm for the disc is a bit much. You could get all the durability you need and save a load of weight by just using 4mm Hardox, in my opinion. At 60mm, I still think the wheels are on the small side, but at least it€™s an improvement on 30mm. The only other thing is that the ground clearance is slightly too low for my liking.
But apart from my general nitpicking, I like it. :)

Is it me or did Kody have low bloodsugar this morning? He comes accross a bit cranky in his posts.
However:
quote:

If for every ~ you used your guess is about 1 kg off the robot suddenly is underweightIf anything Id say he was actually being very conservative with weight. 12,5kg for the flipper system is really low. And no mention of gas bottles.

You think that his last post was cranky Leo? He called me a silly git! I havent been called a name as bad as that since I went on my school break :proud:

Ah but Paul, did he call you that or did he use his deduction skills to come to that conclusion? :rofl:
