Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Sounds like you're really enjoying it, which always makes it easier to drag yourself out of bed in the cold mornings! Should be able to make yourself some nice drum teeth too now.
I'll write up a list of CNC parts I need and get them sent off to you soon

Dont think this new job means you won't be fitting the tiles in a kitchen for me in the future son.

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
whiped by my girlfriend and now also dave! my life gets better :P
but yeah im loving my job atm.
realy undecided what robot to start working on atm again. my overweight ali flippers all working nice so it'll do for now until i make a new chassis outta the bits when im a bit more skilled with cad and cnc as i obviously can't be getting guys at work to machine me a whole robot
pinsors getting new bits next week, i was thinking about taking a crusher i only started a while ago to the next uks there'd be a few robots it couldn't go through obviously but it'd crush anything with any gaps in its armour or any kind of plastic top armour of which thickness i won't say ;) just fancy taking sommet different with me.
atm i've got a few half built robots and it's annoying that they are just sat about doing nothing this other crusher for 1, got a half build new drumbot still and another robot that wants rebuilding
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Get the crusher finished and bring it to the UK champs. As you've said it's something different, and there is quite a lot of HDPE armour out there
Get the drum finished and bring it along too. If you can get someone to drive it then cool, if not just stick it in whiteboards.
Then worry about the rest :)

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
My top panels are 10mm chopping board... would that be a match for said crusher? :uhoh:
Please say yes please say yes please say yes please say yes...
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
hes told me what that crusher can do, anyone with a flipper doesnt have a chance, that crusher is powerful
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Remember this is calum building the crusher.
1, Its wont be in weight so it wont be in the UK champs.
2, it will suck
3, driven by a tard
love you Calum :p
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
lol it will have to obviously be in weight, the baseplate with the drive and weapon on weights 7kg atm but i wana make a new base for it.
and 10mm chopping board ithink would be about a match for it, but it'll bend it if its not mounted properly or if you have a link hole or a gap in the panel it'll just tear away the material untill the claws reached it's maximum travel.
i've had it go through 8mm hdpe and poly but not sure what extra thickness it goes through

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Ok so been having a sort out of robot stuff today. looked at my half started drum spinner, and thought to myself it's be nice to have a chance of winning so decided im going to get that sorted out for the uks instead.
BILD0001 (4).JPG[/attachment:20gisa4m]
BILD0003 (3).JPG[/attachment:20gisa4m]
since i have my new job buying parts isn't going to be an issue anymore really. so doing away with those nimhs going to machine a nice motor mount instead of that bodged hdpe one and by moving the motor up slightly i'll get a lipo pack underneath it to power the drum and drive on 22 volts. going to buy some 18 volt drills to cope with the higher voltage rather than the current 12v ones.
still going to stick with the speed 900 rather than going brushless because to be honest i havn't got much of a clue about it so don't wana be running before i can walk.
ill get teeth cut out at work eventually, but really need a new drum making as that ones had it. can't really be getting people at work to make me a hole drum cause its a bit cheeky :P so il have to see what i can do.
Drum teeth.png[/attachment:20gisa4m]
wanting 2 of those for the teeth, so one on each side of the robots drum towards the edges
other then that, hardox back section, and wheel guards are a must and then see what weights left over afterwards to add any extra hardox if needed.

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Going with a 3.5kg beater for this now, dave has swayed me lol
metals soon to be on order £50 including postage or something, and im getting a quote for the cutting as we speak from a place in nottingham.
asked at work today about getting the ends turned down to a 17mm radius and they've got some 4 jaw vices/chucks that can be put into the cnc machines, so im all sorted :) this will all obviously be in the new year, as will getting the beater cut etc.
getting pinsors claw pivot sections made tomorrow morning at work too so i can get the 3rd yes thats right 3rd! set of claws finished...... 3rd time lucky i hope
could go into work over christmas to do a few things, but im not that crazy

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
You using that design I made for you?
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
The deisgn you did which was off balance until i noticed?
mabye........., don't walk when you can catch a bus
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
It wasn't of balance, the teeth overlapped when spinning so I changed it for u because you didn't know how to use CAD designed for muppets.
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Love you dave, you know ill pay you back with hardox
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
went to robots live at Telford for an expo event, used my flipper feather which i had been testing excessivly at home with a lot of success!! Having said that during the first fight the rams end cap came apart :P keeping the robot out of use for the rest of the day.
fixed it this morning by making a little plate to bolt onto the end of the ram with my day off work. so fingers crossed for next time!
video from the event........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVmXlzFTKlM - technically won the fight i think :) good timesssss
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
pretty good how you made a feather that weighs 17kg
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
built a year ago ye lol, was that new one not in weight! Eh eh :P

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Progress today on TS2.
with the uk champs up and comming i decided to get some things done to this robot, chassis is about done now, aside from the top lid and back panel :)
pics.............

Hardox lower outer armour but will be adding more if the weights there, but thats already 5kg in the picture and with a 3.5kg weapon its gonna be a close one. luckily all is not lost, if despiratly needed i can get the nylon pocketed at work as its 22mm thick! hoping its in weight enough to get 2 more pieces on hardox on the wheel guards to stop them jamming against the wheels from hard hits.
probabily shooting myself in the foot but if theres a chance it'll be flipped over it'll have some 75mm wheels which will simply press against the drive wheels allowing it to have at least some form of movement upside down
also made the armor in a way so its connected together around the whole of the robot hopefully adding extra strength. its not pretty just yet as i've only spent the day cutting the basic shapes of hardox and getting them welded together.
more to come soon....

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Just seen my draw for the uks, im well happy with who im fighting against on the saturday, other than centrifuge im feeling quietly confident but don't wana jinx anything so im staying shhhh and not being too cocky as anything could go wrong lol,
buying lipos and chargers etc for TS2 next week so i can get things mounted inside properly, may start making a motor mount and wiring things up later thou :) daves getting my beater sorted for me too :)
with my ali flipper the flipper blades about 6 foot off the floor because the wheels have worn down so bought a new pair off robochallenge, but they need putting on a machine at work to remove some of the material so they will be like the old ones... pic below
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
following the uks draw giving me a refreshed interest in my spinner, tonight ive got it mostly wired up and driving about using a scropian xl. 18v drills are surprisingly nippy on only a 8.4 volt nimh pack. After i get payed next week ill be buying a pair of lipos and a charger etc etc - it'll run off 1 single 22 volt pack but thought itd be nice to have a spare

did a bit this morning, speedo mounted - when i bolt it down with m3's, link made and led mounted with a place for the reciever to sit.

things going well so far surprisingly :)
link holder seems really good and tight so jobs a gooden
getting a motor holder made for me at work next week too so more pics to follow...

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
and a pic of it from the front, the triangle bits of hardox are only really tacked on so don't judge!
BILD0004.JPG[/attachment:pj7fadt6]
next major steps are getting the beater cut out which is being sorted by dave, and getting bearings put into the bulkheads- again something ill get done at work asap.
lipos gonna sit behind the motor aswell so space is gonna be tight but should make for a solid little robot hopefully.
all of thats about 7kg there, 3.5kg beater makes it 10.5kg, then throw in lipos and the top lid etc so it should be do-able, ill add more hardox to it if the weight allows.

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
interesting - is that one of those 24V kids scooter motors for the spinner drive?
Wondering how beefy they are in comparison to say a Speed 900
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
I think the specs of that motor will be exceptionally similar to those of a speed 900, identical even  . It even has the Speed 900 sticker written on it....

thats handy then
Looking good so far

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
It's coming on well Calum, although I think you've out-done me in terms of how tight things are inside :)
Are you still going for friction-drive wheels for when inverted?
Also, it's entirely optional, but it may be worth de-soldering the little green terminal blocks from the XL and soldering the power wires direct to the board. A few people have noted them being prone to breaking off from shock impacts, which could cost you a battle and some valuable points. If you work out what direction your motors turn when you press forward etc, you can solder direct from the XL to the motor terminals and remove another potential area of failure.
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
cheers jamie, and yeah i thought about that but they seem solid enough so i just thought about hot glue gunning them or something to be safe. Ive made the mounting for the speedo so its springy so itd reduce any shocks to hopefully
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
and yeah i was gonna have friction driven wheels, but i wana see if i spin the weapon up if it wud selfright it or not as i no before garys caught the floor and flipped boner back over
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Coolio, hot glue should do a decent enough job as well.
Regarding Boner, the drum on that stuck out the top quite a bit, it wasn't exactly halfway between the top and bottom of the chassis (hence the old roll-hoops). Looking at your chassis, the beater shaft looks to be roughly halfway between the top and the bottom so your beater might not stick out enough to get a good bite to throw you back over. Depends if the belt ratio leaves enough torque too.
I could be wrong though, best way to find out will be to try it!
And if it doesn't work, you can always throw on some nice bits of white HDPE to roll you back over
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
if in doubt glue it :P!
yeah ill give it a go and then ill see what i can do, thinking that for the fights where i don't need em i could take the inverted wheels off mabye anyway.
get paid in 2 days then ill be buying lipos and a charger etc so that'll be my next step of mouting stuff inside the robot, interested to see how much faster it'll drive on 22 volts instead of just 8.4
-
Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
TS2 lives! Spent most of todayy finishing it. Didnt end up finishing it because i spent too much time playing and testing it out :P did a video that ill put up later and i managed to get some good hits on a 10kg chassis and a hand dryer aha. Tomorrow im makin the top lid outta 1.6 ti and theres the battery holders to finish, mount the weapon speedo and generally tidy it up :) 11.5 kg in that vid

I'm facing that?
Nope, not worried at all. :uhoh:

Re: Team Trouble - Build diary
Awesome! 8)
Not even on full voltage either. Very impressed, looks like a lot of fun to play around with :)

I remember reading this ages ago, when I saw I was fighting your robot I thought don't worry max, it will also be overweight, suck and be driven by a tard, thank god!. I was feeling confident about my first qualifier :proud:
Now I think oh bugger
