I may not have a choice gary, I doubt I'd afford the hotels round there, probably kip in the car.
I have a k*bots event the week leading up to this, I am not sure if I can be there for the friday, which is when all the qualifying fights would be I presume ?
If I can make it, I'll sign up Satanix, and get him straightened out and a few wounds welded :P
guess i can dust off Alpha again, thank god i dont have to camp and can stay in my nice warm bed :) I could rent you some space in my back garden if you really wanted to camp Gary :lame:
Dave, while most of the qualifying fights will probably be on the Friday, the Robo Challenge guys accepted that some people won't be able to manage that day (due to having kids in school etc) and are trying to arrange it so that your qualifying battles are scheduled on the day you can make it. yeh normally what happens is as the competition goes on less robots are in it so there are less fights and more time for whiteboards and grudge matches etc

Thats correct Jamie qualifying will be Friday and Saturday to accommodate every body. Once we have most entries we will let everyone know which day they will be qualifying on. The knockout stages, finals, annihilator most whiteboards will all be on the sunday.

depending on money etc i might, just might get my new bot finished in time, doubt it but i might.
and might i add try booking at ibis excel, not great but its a bed and not very far from the O2 at all and its a good price :)
This event is at the NEC is Birmingham. The following weekend is the HW champs at the O2.

Craig, I've had a look around a lot of hotels, b&bs, guest houses, Travelodges etc and there hasn't been one indiviual place that has jumped out at me as being the best. There are some very similarly priced places offering very similar accommodation so it's really just a case of picking one, perhaps going by reviews; seems to be the only way to narrow down the choices :uhoh:
Just as a guide, the cheapest we've found is £40 per night including breakfast. There were only a couple of cheaper places but they got panned in the reviews. After that the prices start climbing. I'm hoping to sit down at the weekend and sort accommodation out so will post when booked to say where we are.
We normally find the Travelodge at Fort Dunlop is the cheapest, but doesn't include breakfast, its fairly new so shouldn't be too rough, although it is in Birmingham :rofl: I will be staying in my nice warm bed, no freezing tents and Lipo bonfires this time!
Fort dunlop is okay, massive travel lodge. Its about a mile from my house and about a £10 cab ride from birmingham central for anyone whos coming out for a beverage on the night :)

£45 per night for a twin room (breakfast optional extra) but when booking for three nights you get 10% off the price, according to LateRooms.com.
Reviews are mixed but depends on your expectations; however it's relatively near to the NEC and they should still have rooms available for now if anyone is still looking for something.

Just a quick update to let you all know that I have sent out e-mails to everyone signed up so far with regards to which day they will be qualifying on (Friday/Saturday).
If you have signed up but have not yet recieved an e-mail please contact me asap and I will get a confirmation of qualifying dates to send out to you.
Please keep your days confidential untill sign-ups are officially closed.
We don't have many spaces left for the event now, so if you would like to enter please sign-up as soon as possible to avoid dissapointment.
James and I are currently working very hard behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. Due to the nature of this event and the extreamly large crowds that surrounded our stand last year, we need to all take safety a step further for this competition.
We are seeing a large increase in the number of robots using Lithium Polymer batteries recently, and we would like to remind everyone who will be using these batteries to ensure that they purchase (and most importantly use) a LiPo Sack for charging purposes.
We will be running stricter Tech Checks with regards to robots wiring on any robots using Lithium Polymer batteries.
There are a number of key reasons behind the layout and the number of teams competing each day - the main reason being for safety of public audiences.
There have already been approximatly 100,000 tickets sold for the Gadget Show Live, so expect it to be busy!
