The thing with any R/C Model is that you get what you pay for.
The cars at the lower end of the price range (<£100) are ok and drive but not very fast.
If you pay slightly more(<£250) you can get an awsome car that is fast and great fun. You can also race it.
If you pay alot of cash(<£600) you can get some awsome cars like the HPI Vorza Flux HP(my dream car)
The Vorza is insane with a top speed of 80mph+ on 22.2v and the world record for the longest jump at 22.63m (85ft)!
I have a HPI trophy 3.5 nitro, which I got for christmas, and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun. I spend hours driving it and will fix it when I break it(which is quite often  )
Then there is the difference between nitro and electric.
if you want to go cheap get a brushed car. These are ok and gve a bit of entertainmet. These are grea for a beginner.
The nitro ones are a pain. They have so much power in them and are increadably noisy :). But the problem wth them is tuning them. At first you have to tune them to get started and then after about a litre of fuel you need to spend ages re-tuning them as the engine changes. Also the fuel is expensive.
Brushless electric are my favourite. They are the cheapest to run and are insanely fast (80mph+). These will run straight out of the box. These are great for driving around and going fast, especially racing.
So as I said you get what you pay for. Also look around on the internet, if you have a local model shop go down and have a chat with them and they will also recommend cars to you. The guys at Galaxy(my local model shop) really helped me out and one guy invited me to his racing club which is awsome.
I just got my first nitro car... 1/8 ansmann virus 2.0.... good car, some decent mods available too...hyper 7's look good too. I paid £200 on ebay, with all metal servos, a dx3e, glow plug and charger, spair glow plugs, uprated shocks, servo saver, few tools and a bottle of fuel :)

im mainly after something cheap that i can mod to hell really :)
sweet car, yeah you do need lots of spare glow plugs as they burn out easily.
I really need to change to 2.4ghz.
I'm going to mod my cras shell soon. I'll really pimp it up :)
anyone got any cars that i could use?
cool car dave, bring it to kidderminster so we can have a race,
mine does about 55mph so it should be good fun :)
and here it is, 2200kv motor and 22.2v 4ah lipos.
what sort of motors do cars use? brushed or brushless?
 i'm going to kidderminster. I'll give you guys a race
@matt
look at my post above ^^^^
if you want to go cheap get a brushed car.
the more expensive cars are brushless
They use both kinds of motors.
Ah, I didn't notice that :)
Looks cool Terry- was so tempted to buy a vorza but stoped myself lol barely used the ansmann yet. You'd batter me in a race mate lol might go Kidderminster, have to see what shift I'm doing at work.
Dave,
What kind of size engine does your car have?
Dunno, the standard one. Seems quite good. When I blow it up I'll convert it to brushless probably.
im there both days, I think there was a good sized car park aswell i might bring it with me.
would be a great laugh for a few of us with some high speed cars to have a race about :)
I will have to put the rear wheel back on that i smashed off earlier though  :!:
put toxics shell in the car park- would make a pretty nice jumping ramp lol
That's very tempting, would be a good laugh
Hard landing if we got it wrong, on concrete ouch !
Ive smashed enough bits in the garden on grass,
Missed the old shed door ramp and got a tree instead !
The house has got in the way aswell lol.
Yeah, put toxics shell in the car park, add a 'little' flip and we would have the highest rc car jump world record
My Hyper ST truggy converted from Nitro to brushless electric:

I'm tempted to do a Brushless/Lithium conversion to my Rustler, anyone recommend any motors? The motors in the Rustler are all mounted from the front and aren't covered, so it'll have to be an Inrunner.
Castle Creations 1410 4pole motor, heaps of power in a small package, together with a Sidewinder SCT or Mamba Max pro, great combination for 2WD 1:10 scale cars like the Rustler.Quote:

Expensive? 89 euros, about 80 gbp for the complete set is far from expensive.Quote:

I couldn't find it that cheap anywhere, best I could do was around the £180 mark.
Even still I was thinking £50 tops. Know of any alternatives?
Cheers!
Stick with brushed. Anything that low is not a cheap esc but an expensive firelighter.
I run brushed on all my electric cars, IMHO i don´t see a need for more power, when running on a smaller track. (2wd off-road). Just buy a 2s lipo and a good brushed motor, usually the ones with replaceable brushes are better. Also make sure you have a good gear ratio (with different turn motors)
I´m just an old school fan too....
example of the good motor

Is that a novak rooster there ?
One of my favorites when I was racing.
A few years back a spent quite a bit of money upgrading my Rustler (before brushless was affordable), new ESC motor etc.. and the results were crap!
For what ever reason it just had no torque and the top end wasn't all that great either. In utter disappointment I put it in the cupboard and never got it out again..
The motor I was using was an 11turn I think, so I expected it to be at least a little pokey!
Did you break in your motor correctly or just put it on a car and started to drive around?
Were the batteries good?
Was the gearing right?
:)

I just put it into the car and started to drive... Never heard of breaking them in...
Tried various batteries, even other people's who had Rustlers that ran much better.
As for gearing I don't know if it was correct. Standard spur gear and a 16 tooth pinion gear I think?
Made a short video of my two cars running!

I'm selling my traxxas rc car as I don't use it and I need the money!

Jconcepts Illuzion body for the Hotbodies D8. It is not a direct fit but very close so easy to make it fit.Quote:

I've got several threads for the Vorza depending on the surface I drive on.
me doing a few jumps, quite hard to catch them as its quite nippy, couldnt get full speed either as a big puddle and wet tarmac. need a descent ramp in the middle of the field.
