All 5 machines move off very quickly at the beginning of this bout, with the spinning weapons of Mornington Crescent and SOTAR spinning up immediately, creating a dangerous whirring sound in the arena. Wedga Triton immediately targets Mornington Crescent and makes a very good attempt to box-rush Steven€™s machine, however it is intercepted during the ram by Wedginator 9.0, who immediately uses the lifting forks to lever the 4th ranked robot in Mechanical Maelstrom up and over onto its back!
Wedga Triton self-rights, but as it lands SOTAR comes running across the arena and slams into the rear rollcage of Wedginator 9.0, putting a hefty dent in it but not going through the HDPE. This however sends Wedginator spinning into Mornington Crescent, buckling the front of one of the lifting spikes! Wedga Triton takes advantage of Mornington Crescent€™s momentary stillness and rams in underneath, pushing the cylindrical machine across the arena and into the pit release button!
Wedga has Mornington Crescent pinned against the release button and Andy fires the flipper hoping to send Mornington Crescent out of the arena, but the flipper wasn€™t far enough underneath and it slams against the rails before spinning up the rings again and ramming at Wedginator 9.0, who runs forward to meet it! The two collide and the bent lifting prong of Wedginator 9.0 takes further damage, being knocked so that the end is now completely sideways! However the spinning of Mornington Crescent has now stopped and Wedginator pushes it across the arena and onto the killsaws!
SOTAR meanwhile launches another attack on Wedga Triton, and like Wedginator did Wedga runs across the arena to meet SOTAR, the front wedge colliding with the blade of SOTAR and causing it to flip and over, allowing Wedga to carry on the ram and take SOTAR to the side wall, but now Wedga is venting gas and it would seem that hit took out Andy€™s co2 supply! Nidhogg Cubed, having stayed in the shadows for this whole match spots an opportunity and drives underneath the rear of the ranked machine and lifts it into the air with the forks, pushing forward to flip it over and immobilise it!
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!

In a shock turn of events Wedga Triton is eliminated from the annihilator!

Okay, I'm feeling slightly better now. I have the rear end to fend off the two spinners, but all the same I'd rather like to avoid them. Now, I will go after Nidhogg here. Get it from the sides and lift it up, and make sure its wheels, all of them, are off the ground. Only then try to shunt it into one of the two spinners, but not otherwise. Keep lifting it if it can move, and go after it the entire match (unless one of the spinners is hovering over the pit, tip that into the pit :P) Oh, and do get Nidhogg into the pit if it's nearby.

The third round begins and all four machines get moving, however some are more aggressive than others, most poignantly Wedginator 9.0 who is again the immediate aggressor, heading straight for Nidhogg Cubed who thus far has had little involvement in the annihilator despite being the robot to finish off both Orka RV and Wedga Triton in the previous rounds. Wedginator tries to dodge the front of Nidhogg to get around to the sides, but the hydrostatic drive of Nidhogg Cubed allows it to turn rapidly and face Wedginator again, forcing Kody to back away rather than risk a head-on collision.
Mornington Crescent has spun up to full speed as has SOTAR, but neither is making an aggressive manoeuvre at the moment, preferring to stay out of trouble while Wedginator and Nidhogg tussle. Both of these machines are pretty manouevrable as Wedginator favours a half omni-wheel design and Nidhogg€™s wheels are situated in the front of the machine so that the front turns rather than the rear. However, Nidhogg is perhaps the easier to control with the hydrostatic drive and Joey pushes forward now, hoping to breach the front of Wedginator 9.0, but Kody backs away and then turns quickly, pushing against the side of Nidhogg, but Joey turns again and the machines end up side to side moving around in a circle.
SOTAR sees an opportunity here and the crowd are certainly bored, so Tracy rams in at full speed with the ring going around fast and crashes into the side of Wedginator 9.0, denting the armour and spinning Wedginator away from Nidhogg Cubed. Mornington Crescent on the other hand aims for the momentarily stationary SOTAR and runs in with both rings spinning, colliding with SOTAR with a big crash and both machines are knocked away across the arena floor, but the titanium ring of SOTAR isn€™t damaged and it immediately spins up again to go back on the attack.
Meanwhile Nidhogg has been targeted by Wedginator 9.0 again, and Kody€™s machine moves in for the second time, catching Joey unawares and sliding the lifting prongs underneath the side of Nidhogg, lifting it up into the air, removing Nidhogg€™s traction! With careful driving now Kody edges Nidhogg towards the nearby Mornington Crescent while SOTAR heads across the arena and presses the pit release button. Mornington Crescent runs forward to hit Nidhogg and Wedginator lowers it down, leaving Joey€™s robot to be flung across the arena from the force of the slam with the front forks horribly buckled, but apart from this the robot appears to be OK.
And now Wedginator 9.0 spots a golden opportunity - from the force of the hit with Nidhogg Mornington Crescent was flung across the arena and now sits on the brink of the pit, unable to drive away as half of its drive hangs over the abyss! Kody drives in calmly and swings Wedginator€™s long wedged body around, deftly nudging Mornington Crescent with the side of the wedge and in doing so sending the innovative ring spinner into the pit, to disappear in a puff of smoke!

Another surprising elimination as despite Nidhogg Cubed getting bullied throughout the match it is Mornington Crescent that hits the bottom of the pit and is eliminated from the competition!

The 4th match of this annihilator gets underway and the remaining three machines are all looking pretty worn out from the previous fights, having taken heaps of damage along the way to reach this stage. However, there are 2 battles before they can happily have reached the finals and receive full repairs, so there€™s no relaxing just yet. SOTAR appears to have the most destructive weaponry again as that proven deadly spinning ring gets up to full speed while Nidhogg also has a very damaging weapon in that overhead hydraulic crusher that can work in unison with the lifting forks in a clamping weapon synergy like that of Complete Control. Wedginator 9.0 has been the aggressor in previous rounds, but we still haven€™t seen that spike in action, but Kody has told us in the pits that it is working. No need to worry though, it is doing fine on lifting arms and pushing power so far! However in this match it is Nidhogg Cubed that makes the first move, heading towards Wedginator 9.0, eager to cause damage. These two were sparring partners in the last round and Nidhogg certainly came off worse, so perhaps Joey is looking for revenge now or maybe just trying to remove the machine that poses a bigger threat against him?
Wedginator certainly does pose a threat as it runs forward to meet Nidhogg and the two collide head on, Wedginator managing to get under Nidhogg at the front and Kody uses the lifting arms to lever Nidhogg up and over onto its back! SOTAR comes in with the ring spinning trying to take advantage of this and slams into Nidhogg as it rolls over, sending Team Picus€™ machine spinning away across the arena floor with a sizeable gash in the side armour! Nidhogg however is undaunted and drives on the attack of SOTAR while the ring isn€™t spinning and lifts up the side of Tracy€™s machine with its forks, pushing the cylindrical machine against the barrier and crushing down with the beak onto the top of SOTAR, sinking the claw-like weapon through the aluminium top armour of SOTAR like a knife through hot butter and Nidhogg keeps this vice-like grip as it reverses back across the arena towards the pit release button, but the backwards movement is intercepted by Wedginator 9.0, who drives under the side of Nidhogg Cubed, who still has SOTAR in tow and rams the pair of them into the arena side wall before pushing them into the corner and onto the killsaws!
The saws rise up out of the floor and with a smattering of sparks Nidhogg Cubed is bounced up on its front corner, but the extra weight of having SOTAR on board causes it to fall back onto its wheels straight away, if only those wheels were on the ground! They are now actually on Wedginator 9.0, who drove underneath Nidhogg on its descent to the floor and now has the pair of its opponents wedged against the side wall, lifting them now and for the first time in the competition firing the pneumatic spike, penetrating the aluminium base armour of Nidhogg Cubed and digging that spike into the workings of the hydraulically driven machine! With Nidhogg impaled in this manner, still clinging tightly to SOTAR Wedginator 9.0 is the only robot in the arena free to move and with Nidhogg not going anywhere fast Kody prepares to end this match! With skilful driving ability and excellent control Wedginator 9.0 begins to manoeuvre towards the pit, but with 200kg suspended on its spike it simply can€™t handle the pressure and the three robot embrace tumbles onto its side, leaving all three machines still conjoined on the arena floor, unable to move even if SOTAR and Nidhogg Cubed are still working!

No games here. If I've got him, pit him immediately. If he looks like he'll get me, back away far so I can get my front end pointed at him. His forks are all right but I think my lifting spikes have more leverage to them as well as being further from the actual main body, so I should get under him all right. The hydrostatic drive seems tricky, but I'll try to keep a cool head here when he's trying to deke me out; repeat the backing away part if he does, and go at him with the front here. Be aggressive, but careful.

...what on earth :P I got through again? I hadn't expected this, no tactics prepared should I get to this stage...so...uh...same tactics as I've used throughout, pick up and pit without buggering around for show or wasting any time if I can avoid it.

Before the final of Annihilator 1 gets underway, let€™s take a quick look back at how Nidhogg Cubed and Wedginator 9.0 got this far!
In round 1 Wedginator was the aggressor against Orka RV, but it was Nidhogg that finished the job.
In round 2 Wedginator was again the aggressor, and interestingly it was again Nidhogg that disposed of Wedga Triton.
In round 3 Nidhogg and Wedginator both took spinner damage, but Mornington Crescent ended up in the pit with a good shove from Wedginator.
In round 4 SOTAR lost a close judge€™s decision after all 3 robots were immobilised.
So both machines have been very impressive so far, with Wedginator 9.0 being the main aggressor and Nidhogg Cubed being used as a finishing move a lot of the time, particularly in the early rounds. They have both done very well to survive this long, but which of them will advance to the Annihilation Finals?

Our first annihilator final gets going quickly as both robots immediately show aggression towards one another, with Wedginator 9.0 driving in on the attack full speed ahead, while Nidhogg starts slightly more tentatively, attempting to dodge the front lifting arms of Wedginator 9.0 but in doing so exposing its side ground clearance to the opposition, which rams underneath Nidhogg and immediately lifts it into the air, with Joey€™s machine now suspended on the end of the lifting arms! Kody reverses across the arena towards the pit release button, moving slowly and carefully so as not to drop Nidhogg off the arms, however the impact with the pit release button causes Kody to lose his fragile grip on Nidhogg Cubed, who tumbles off the lifter and rolls over before driving back on the attack with its own lifting forks, getting underneath the side of Wedginator 9.0 before the lifting arms are fully down and Joey now bites down with the crusher as well! Wedginator 9.0 is between a rock and a hard place here, but the rear omni-wheels are still on the ground, will this provide any resistance to Nidhogg€™s hydrostatic power? Unfortunately for Kody, the answer is no and Nidhogg easily overpowers Wedginator 9.0 and drags it towards the pit that was ironically just opened by Wedginator 9.0, who is then dumped in the abyss as Joey swings Wedginator around, putting it into the pit in one swift, easy move for Wedginator to disappear in a puff of smoke!

A very quick match today, and Nidhogg Cubed is the winner of the 1st annihilator, advancing to the Finals!

Gabriel V tactics: Stay out of trouble generally, but go for Minesweeper. If any of the others that aren't Minesweeper attack me, attack them back, but focus on helping take out the dustbin :P

Right okay, a few issues to settle. While I've been away from fanfic I mistakenly deleted a lot of old files, meaning I lost all the rest of my Mechanical Malestrom files. While unhelpful, this doesn't in any way affect me writing Annihilation, so no problems there. However, Devastation is not so simple as there the main story details were all saved and I can't remember them. I'm posting this here because this tournament is still very much in action, but Devastation is unlikely to be restarted anytime soon so there's no point in bumping the thread. I'm not saying for 100% sure that it's cancelled, as I may find the time/motivation to write a new story to match what is already posted, but it's looking unlikely at the moment, my apologies for this.
However, this does give me more time to focus on Annihilation, which has been completely neglected for 7 months :shock: Will try to get a move on with this... :proud:

Gabriel V [#5] vs. Liar 2 vs. Minesweep3r vs. O.I.D vs. Gehenna vs. Bloody Frigid
From Pontefract in West Yorkshire, representing Team Picus and currently ranked #5, Gabriel V!
This upgraded version of Gabriel IV is the one to watch in this annihilator, with large ears set at the top end of the machine to prevent robots driving up and over the powerful flipper, which is front hinged and contstructed from 5mm stainless steel, capable of 30 full pressure flips, which should be more than enough to get it through each round. Don€™t forget the thwackbot style spikes either, as they helped Gabriel III reach the final of Mechanical Maelstrom Season 1.0 where it lost to Sheer Heart Attack 2. In Season 2.0 Gabriel IV was ranked #2 and proved it€™s worth again, reaching the quarter-finals before it was outclassed by the eventual champion Dantu.
From Enschede in the Netherlands, representing Team Varying Everyday, Liar 2!
This WBC-style flipper robot is a newcomer to Mechanical Maelstrom, although it€™s team has experienced success with Season 1.0 champion Sheer Heart Attack 2. Like Gabriel V, this machine has side-mounted spikes allowing it to act as a thwackbot and a hugely powerful flipper, but this one is rear hinged, so we€™re more likely to see robots flying out of the arena due to this machine. However, it has a very narrow area of attack so it may not be the most aggressive robot in this match.
From Richmond Upon Thames in Scotland, representing Team Orr, O.I.D!
This equilateral triangle-shaped machine has a nasty horizontal spinning disc built in which is constructed from 8mm hardox with 6mm teeth. Spinning at speeds of 2000rpm and weighing in at 20kg this is one deadly weapon, plus the robot can run inverted! What more could you want? Well this robot has hardox armour all around, LEM-130 lynch motors in the drive and a 5mm hardox hinged wedge to boot! However, the high ground clearance could see it suffering in this annihilator with 3 flippers and it€™s untested in battle.
From Lincolnshire in England, representing Team ???, Gehenna!
This robot is the latest in a long line of SOR robots, but a newcomer to Mechanical Maelstrom. It€™s certainly a force to be reckoned, with titanium armour all around and a hardox flipper at 145psi. It also features a horizontal spinning blade at the rear, capable of dishing out a mean 22Kj per hit when spinning at 2450rpm. The bot is driven by S28-400 mags for good power and control and with the grippy tyres I doubt we€™ll be seeing this guy slipping all over the place, but with two working weapons are they as powerful as they could be?

This Razer-esque crushing robot is armoured in an 8mm titanium monocoque, meaning it€™ll take minimum punishment from spinners. The aforementioned crushing beak itself has a meaty 7.5 tonnes of force at the tip to really crunch into opponents, and the self-righting wings mean flippers won€™t worry this guy, but it might actually struggle against a particularly tall opponent as with it€™s crusher raised the machine is just 40cm high, not very tall by crusher-standards.

All five machines get off to a swift start as this match begins, all looking around for Minesweep3r, but it would seem Mark was kicked off the boards and isn€™t here to drive the bot, so instead they advance on each other. Unsure who to attack they all circle the perimeter of the arena until Liar 2 sees an opening and charges at Bloody Frigid, breaching the 8mm side ground clearance and firing it€™s hugely powerful flipper, sending Tracy€™s machine high into the air before it comes crashing down squarely on it€™s back.
It struggles to self-right from this position for a moment, but then OID comes rushing in on the vulnerable bot and smashes into it€™s side with the powerful spinning disc, not really causing any damage to the thick titanium armour of Bloody Frigid, but sending the overturned robot spinning away onto it€™s side, from where it swiftly self-rights.
Meanwhile, Gabriel V has noticed an opening to attack on Gehenna and is managed to sneak it€™s nose cone under the corner of Gehenna€™s wedge as the two collided, and now Joey pushes in underneath his opponent and fires Gabriel€™s powerful flipper, toppling the conventional wedge shaped adversary onto it€™s back, from where it self-rights and reverses into Gabriel V in retaliation, and the spinning blade immediately mangles the stainless steel flipping arm of the ranked machine!
Joey panics and reverses away from Gehenna, retracting his twisted flipper arm as he backs into the pit release button. Gehenna follows, wanting to make Gabriel pay even more for that initial onslaught, but Bloody Frigid comes crashing out of nowhere having just self-righted and catches Gehenna unawares from behind before the spinning blade could get back up to speed, bringing it€™s crushing arm into play on the rear of Gehenna and pinning it in place just as the pit descends!
For Tracy it would seem the timing couldn€™t be more perfect, but OID was already on a beeline for the side of Bloody Frigid with that 20kg disc spinning at top speed and with huge crash the weapon collides with the side of the crusher robot, knocking it for six and loosening it€™s grip on Gehenna, who promptly escapes and turns on it€™s captor, driving underneath the momentarily dazed robot and flipping it over with a quick thrust from the forward hinged flipper.
Bloody Frigid is now on it€™s back against the arena side wall and as it struggles to self-right Liar 2 approaches, acting as the finisher and drives it€™s flipper underneatht the side of Bloody Frigid. Martijn activates the ram and Team Alt€™s second entry into Annihilation sails over the barrier and lands on the camera tracks, where it will rest until the crew removes it€™s carcass.

Welcome back robot fans to Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation! Before the break we saw Bloody Frigid bite the dust, and now we€™re onto the third round of this second annihilator.

The four machines that remain in this annihilator are all incredibly bloodthirsty and this is apparent as they don€™t waste time like in the previous round and all head in for the attack.
Gehenna is the obvious aggressor and gets underneath the side of Liar 2€™s wedge shaped body, ramming it across the arena and firing the flipper to little effect, as Liar 2 doesn€™t slide up the wedge far enough to be flipped right over, but all the same Martijn€™s hopes are bounced along into the arena wall and onto the killsaws, which toss it away with a loud BZZT sound and a smattering of sparks.
Meanwhile Gabriel V has gone away on the attack of OID and has managed to breach the hinged wedge, which Jack was using for defence while he spins up the powerful horizontal disc. But now Joey is underneath and pushes OID back across the arena floor, firing the flipper and sending the triangular machine head over heels backwards across the arena to slam into the arena wall, where it appears to be stacked on it€™s point for a moment before the disc makes contact with the floor and OID bounces back down, landing a good distance away from Gabriel V, making the power of that robot€™s repaired flipper apparent.
A few feet away at the top end of the arena Gehenna is still on the attack of Liar 2, having gotten underneath it€™s adversary and pushed it against the barrier, firing the flipper and trying to get it out, but only succeeding in repeatedly pushing Martijn€™s machine against the spike strip to no effect whatsoever, but it can€™t be hurting Gehenna€™s aggression points should this match go to a judge€™s decision. On the third flip against the spikes Liar 2 is finally toppled over side ways, landing upside down next to Gehenna. However we must remember it is invertible, and promptly escapes.
OID has now managed to spin up it€™s disc while backing away from Gabriel V, who is particularly wary of this spinning weapon now due to the damage sustained to it€™s weaponry in the previous round, so now it€™s Gabriel V retreating from OID, who advances in on the attack, allowing Liar 2 to run in behind Gabriel V, who spins to meet the oncoming attack, but is slightly too late and Liar 2 gets it€™s wedge underneath Gabriel V and fires it€™s flipper, tossing the pyramid-shaped machine a good few feet into the air before it comes crashing down onto it€™s back.
Gabriel is very quick to self-right with it€™s flipper, so OID was not able to hit the baseplate and instead the disc collides with the side of Gabriel, not making any headway into the 4mm hardox but spinning Gabriel away into the path of Gehenna, who gets underneath and swiftly overturns Gabriel with a pop from it€™s own front-hinged flipper, toppling Gabriel before it€™s flipper has retracted. This gives Gehenna the opportunity to quickly spin on the spot and bring it€™s own spinning blade to bear on the base armour of Gabriel, ripping a nasty gash in the aluminium and knocking Gabriel away.
While Gehenna was attacking Gabriel the robots didn€™t just pause, as Liar 2 drives underneath the exposed ground clearance of OID and launches Team Orr€™s entry high into the air before it comes crashing down disc-first and in a slam of sparks bounces off the arena floor due to the kinetic energy weapon hitting it. OID then lands on it€™s wheels, but the disc is hanging loose and it looks like it was damaged by the slam into the floor from a good few feet up. Jack tries to spin it, but it seems the chain has slipped and now OID is left without an active weapon!
Meanwhile Gabriel has self-righted and is back on the attack of Liar 2, pushing it€™s nose cone under the wheel of the WBC-style machine and pushing it around in a wide circle, colliding with OID€™s hinged wedge, which gets under the other side of Liar 2 and takes it off Gabriel, ploughing Martijn€™s robot across the arena floor and onto the killsaws for the second time in this match, and this time Liar 2 is flipped up and over by the saws! OID backs away, but is attacked by Gehenna, who runs under the now undefended end of Jack€™s machine and rams it into the spike strip, now firing it€™s flipper to stack OID against the wall! OID balances for a moment, but luckily for Jack it was flipped onto a spike and OID falls back onto it€™s wheels before reversing away as fast as it can, hoping to avoid another stacking. It€™s really feeling the pressure now, being weaponless in a field of powerful flippers.
Liar 2 on the other hand is not feeling under pressure at all as it has managed to go on the attack of Gabriel V, pushing under the pyramid shaped machine and ramming it a few metres across the arena as Joey frantically hammers the controls to try and steer Gabriel off the huge flipper of Liar 2 before Martijn can hit the flipper button, but it€™s too late and the flipper of Liar 2 is sent upwards. Luckily for Joey the flipper is too wide to dig into the gash in the centre of Liar 2€™s base armour, where it could potentially destroy all the internal workings in one fell swoop, but instead Gabriel is thrown high into the air before it comes crashing down directly onto it€™s nose cone and teeters for a split second before it begins to fall, but then Gehenna comes racing in with the blade spinning and slams into Gabriel, causing it to fly across the arena and collide with the spike strip!

Gabriel V and Liar 2 suffer from lack of truly damaging weapons, but Liar 2 squeaks through on aggression and dominance leaving Gabriel V to fall at this stage in yet another shock defeat of a ranked robot.

All three robots move out of their starting squares as this fight begins, with OID spinning up the dangerous disc before it goes in on the attack while Gehenna and Liar 2 clash head on, the smaller surface area of Liar 2 allowing it to drive in underneath Gehenna this time and push it back across the arena before firing the huge flipper, tossing Andy€™s machine high into the air! It somersaults and lands flat on its back, hurriedly firing its own flipper to push itself back onto its wheels before Liar 2€™s flipper can reset, but Gehenna is slightly too slow as Martijn€™s weapon is ready to go again just before Gehenna gets under the Dutch machine. However, Gehenna gets underneath regardless and rams Liar 2 across the arena, using the front-hinged flipper to push Liar 2 over onto its back and the two cascade into the spike strip, Gehenna pinning Liar in against it.
Meanwhile OID has spun up the ferocious disc and now moves in on the attack, driving full force into the rear of Gehenna, going weapon to weapon with Andy€™s own spinning blade! With a huge crashing noise and an explosion of sparks from their weapons collision the robots are buffeted away, OID spinning back into the centre of the arena while Gehenna is knocked from underneath Liar 2 and onto the killsaws, which rise throw the robot away with yet more sparks. However the attack by the saws does not faze Gehenna and it drives back on the attack of Liar, now with a mangled spinning blade that does not appear to be working. The weight advantage of weaponry was certainly in OID€™s favour, as Jack€™s 20kg disc begins to spin up the speed again now, damaged but not beyond use like the 10kg blade of Gehenna.
Andy drives at Liar 2, who turns to meet the oncoming assault and the pair meet head on for the third time in this match, and the audience waits with bated breath to see who will get under the other this time! However, their zero ground clearances appear to cancel one another out and the machines push against one another on the arena floor, and on this occasion the grippy tyres of Gehenna win out against the hardox wheels of Liar 2, despite the horsepower advantage that Martijn has in this bot-sumo. Unfortunately for Andy there€™s nowhere for Liar 2 to go except to be pushed ever so slowly backwards into the spike strip, which of course doesn€™t even dent the thick hardox armouring of Liar 2.
OID moves in for another rear attack of Gehenna, but Andy is ready this time and instead of pointlessly pinning Liar 2 against the arena wall he spins Gehenna around to meet the oncoming threat from OID, rushing towards it so that they are both ramming towards one another, OID with the meaty spinning disc rotating at its top speed of 2000rpm and Gehenna ready to meet it with the 8mm titanium/vanadium wedge and 4mm hardox flipper! The collision is bound to be epic, but Liar 2 refuses to be left out of the equation and the moment Gehenna turns its back Martijn rams in on the attack at the hastily retreating rear end of Gehenna, his 7mph speed advantage allowing him to promptly catch Andy€™s machine and get under the rear ex-weapon, steepening the angle of Gehenna€™s front wedge as OID€™s disc collides with it!
With another huge slam OID is sent spinning away from the force of its own hit combined with the weight of two heavyweight robots gunning it at 22mph colliding with that. Gehenna is thrown off the wedge of Liar 2 and sent spinning away in OID€™s direction, while Liar 2 itself is knocked yet again into the spike strip. However, all three quickly recover and go back on the attack, with Gehenna being the quickest, getting under OID, whose disc is now motionless after the last hit, and rams it into the arena wall, firing the front hinged flipper and propping it up against the barrier!
The audience glares in disbelief as the promising OID is left helpless, stacked against the barrier and without a weapon. It would seem that the connection to the disc was broken in the last impact, and without the disc OID was vulnerable to attack from Gehenna, who complied by promptly putting Jack€™s machine against the wall. Nevertheless, this is a somewhat disappointing end to such a good battle, but the crowd counts OID down and out with uncompromised enthusiasm so it€™s all good.

Off on holidays for a fortnight, so no new battles until then.
Okay, seen as there€™s been a bit more activity around here lately I€™ll continue, but it€™d help my motivation if you guys could post a bit more in this thread, a few fights seem to be ignored ïÂÅ
Anyhow, we€™ve reached the final of the second annihilator!
But before the fight gets underway, let€™s take a look at how these two got this far!
In round 1 Minesweep3r bit the bullet via default.
In round 2 Bloody Frigid was flipped up and out by Liar 2.
In round 3 #5 ranked Gabriel V lost a tight judge€™s decision.
In round 4 O.I.D was stacked up against the arena wall and counted out.
Both machines have certainly proved their worth in this annihilator, but which one can prevail here and advance to the competition finals?

The fight gets underway quickly as both robots jet out of their starting squares at high speed, each hoping that their front wedge will breach the other. On this occasion it€™s the narrower front of Liar 2 that gains the advantage, pushing in underneath the front of Gehenna and quickly firing it€™s gargantuan flipper, throwing Andy€™s robot up into the air, where it travels a few metres back before crashing down onto it€™s wheels.
However Andy doesn€™t waste any time and quickly drives back on another onslaught, getting under the still-fired flipper of Liar 2 and pushing Martijn€™s machine back across the arena and into the wall, firing it€™s own flipper and slamming Liar 2 into the wall. Gehenna retreats and then pushes back underneath as Liar 2 falls back down, so that Andy is back underneath again and this time uses the flipper to push Liar 2 over sideways!
Martijn uses this opportunity to swing Liar 2 around, smashing the side spike into the side of Gehenna, but not causing any damage. It knocks Gehenna side on to Liar though and Martijn doesn€™t waste the opportunity, driving in underneath Andy€™s robot and once again firing that massive WBC-style flipper to throw Gehenna up into the air, this time backwards over Liar 2!
Gehenna somersaults over in the air and crashes back down onto the arena floor backwards, the horizontal spinning blade slamming against the steel floor in a smattering of sparks before it bounces back over onto its wheels! Andy drives back on the attack almost immediately, but Gehenna€™s spinning blade seems to have stopped! Perhaps a chain slipped or a connection was severed when Gehenna€™s blade slammed down onto the arena floor? It would certainly seem so, but this doesn€™t seem to bother Andy as he rams in underneath Liar 2 with his wedge shaped machine and drives Team Varying Everday€™s entry back across the arena into the spike strip!
It€™s a great attack and one that makes the crowd roar and cheer, bringing Gehenna back on top in this bout. It also has given Andy another window to attack, as he pushes in underneath Liar and fires Gehenna€™s own flipper, again pushing Liar against the arena wall, but doing little else. The problem is that Gehenna€™s front hinged flipper can only push Liar against the wall when they€™re this close to it and even when they€™re not it can only flip Liar over, not deliver sky high launches like it€™s adversary. Undeterred, Gehenna pushes Liar 2 across the arena towards the pit release button, but Liar 2 is a slippery customer and squirms off it€™s opponent€™s wedge, turning to try and get it€™s own flipper under the stationary blade of Gehenna, but Andy thinks fast and reverses back over Liar, almost getting over the back and avoiding an attack completely, but Martijn hits the button just in time and Gehenna is tipped over onto its back!
Andy swiftly self-rights, but Liar swings it€™s large body around in a full 360 degree spin, aiming to hit Gehenna with it€™s side spikes while it€™s own primary weapon resets. However, Gehenna is in both mid-air and mid-self-right when Liar comes around, and due to the raised flipper Andy€™s machine is knocked clean out of the air, bouncing on the front of its wedge before coming to rest on its wheels. Liar turns to get another attack in, weapon now reset, but Andy is already aiming for another onslaught, driving full speed towards Liar 2 and once again the two wedges meet!
On this occasion it€™s Gehenna that breaches Liar€™s wedge and forces the other robot back across the arena, firing the flipper to topple Liar 2 yet again, but Andy doesn€™t let up on the assault and gets under Liar 2 again when it€™s inverted, continuing to push the upside down adversary across the Annihilation Stadium while it€™s flipper resets. They eventually collide with the arena wall as Gehenna€™s flipper resets again, driving underneath it€™s worthy adversary and firing the flipper to push it against the arena wall one final time before the buzzer sounds to signal the end of the match!

Jinx's tactics - flipper attachment off, avoid drums, attack CrOoKeD eVo (since Bandwagon's out :P), and Spin Dash if he's been flipped. If ever I get a chance, though, grapple anybody within reach, with the axe, and pit them immediately.

heh, sorry for not posting more but since I was technically eliminated I didn't think there was much I could post :P I do read all the battles though, and I've just read that one and it was rather fantastic, so no worries there. Very well done to Andy for winning and commiserations to Marti for losing :)
My predictions: Bandwagon is out already, presumably due to a tragic shipping error resulting in a ceramic toilet being delivered to the pits instead of Bandwagon (the toilet, of course, being far more aesthetically pleasing, having many more uses, and being considerably more effective in a typical combat scenario than either Mark or his Bandwagon, but as it has no power light it must be disqualified), and I think Sheer Heart Attack 2 might actually have more problems in this annihilator than people think due to the excess of spinning weapons. It'll make it through the first round though, so I'll sadly predict CrOoKeD EvO to fall first.
GEEZUS :-O. It's been a while since Iv even THOUGHT about crooked, so tactics will be a bit difficult, flip everything I can get too, then run for the hills, use marks toilet as a diversion if necessary, and genraly just keep away from danger :-P. Yeah that's all I have on that :/

I've not read their stats in ages but Leprosy and Sheer Heart Attack have the biggest ground clearances of the other bots IIRC. If I'm right, focus my attacks on those two, aim for the sides and shred the wheels/tracks till one dies. If not, aim for whoever does have the highest GC and shred away. Spin Dash is a spiffy pusher too, so try and make use of the arena hazards too.
Really liking these clashes so far, Lewis. Looking forward to the next ones. :proud:

Sheer Heart Attack 2 [#6] vs. Jinx vs. Bandwagon 2 vs. CrOoKeD EvO vs. Spin Dash Unleashed vs. Leprosy Infection
From Enschede in the Netherlands, representing Team Varying Everyday, ranked #6, Sheer Heart Attack 2!
This innovative tracked machine is no stranger to Mechanical Maelstrom, having previously competed in both main seasons of the competition. Not only that, but this machine has experienced serious success on both occasions, mutilating MeCannibal 3.0, Spin Dash Unleashed and Gabriel III to become champion of Season 1.0. In Season 2.0 it began strongly, storming through both the eliminator and round 2 match against promising hammerbot Supreme to reach the quarter-finals, where it was defeated by the eventual runner-up Holepunch 2.0. Returning unchanged, can this former champion make it€™s mark in Annihilation or has the grass grown beneath it€™s, err... tracks?
From Etobicoke in Canada, representing Team Zlayerz, Jinx!
In serious contrast to Sheer Heart Attack 2 this machine is a complete newcomer to Mechanical Maelstrom, but on no terms should you underestimate it. It€™s packing a seriously powerful pneumatic axe that has an optional flipper attachment, though that€™s been removed for this match. This pink bot is well controlled and well armoured, as it€™s coated in 7mm titanium/vanadium alloy with an extra 8mm protecting the front, so good luck trying to penetrate that! She€™s also packing one hell of a theme tune, but Benjamin Burnley can€™t help her in the arena, and neither will her low height. At just 15cm high, Jinx€™s axe could have a hard time hitting some of the taller bots on the noggin.
From Richmond Upon Thames, representing Team Orr, CrOoKeD EvO!
Another newcomer to the competition is CrOoKeD EvO, who€™s name is a real bitch to keep typing! :P Whatever, you know who I mean if I just say Crooked! Anyhow, like Jinx this newbie is nothing to sniff at. This bad boy is packing a full pressure pneumatic flipper, hinged at the rear of the robot and certainly well capable of tossing robots clean out of the arena! Good luck getting through it as well, the flipper arm is made of 6mm hardox and the wedge it rests on is 8mm of the same stuff! The rest of the armour is pretty tough too, but the most powerful of our spinners are capable of getting through 6mm titanium after a few shots. The rounded rear of the robot should help it to self-right quickly and easily, and the magmotors in the drive should provide decent power, but the outdated SLA batteries powering them are no help. Also the high top speed of 25mph coupled with the fact this bot is only 2WD isn€™t going to help it€™s controllability in the arena.
From Glasgow in Scotland, representing Team Braveheart, Spin Dash Unleashed!
Screw the new bots! It€™s this old hand you want to watch out for in the arena. Spin Dash has competed in both previous seasons of Mechanical Maelstrom, clinching the bronze medal in Season 1.0 having fallen to Sheer Heart Attack 2 in the semi-final, but winning the play-off against Leprosy Infection afterward. However, it all went a bit pants in Season 2.0 when Steven found himself faced with the deadly power of Autism 3.0 and Back to Rock III in the first round eliminator. Still, SDU returns unchanged for another stab at a Mechanical Maelstrom title, with the deadly saw and ramming ability intact. However, it€™s manouevrability isn€™t the best and the saw blade is less effective upside down, meaning we could see Spin Dash on the leash if it gets flipped.
From Onehouse in Suffolk, representing Team Dinowarrior, Leprosy Infection!
And so the final bot to enter the arena for this annihilator is another veteran machine, coming fresh from it€™s first round defeat in Mechanical Maelstrom 2.0 at the hands of newcomers Visioned and Dantu, although Dantu was in fact the eventual champion. Stripped of it€™s ranking and placed in an annihilator with the bot that beat it out of 3rd place in Season 1.0, Leprosy Infection is back and ready for revenge. The front vertical spinning drum is designed to flake opponent€™s armour off, but is slow and steady damage a good idea in an annihilator? We€™ll soon see.

And they€™re off! The newcomers are the ones that are straight off the mark, which is surprising given the history that€™s brooding between the three returning competitors in this bout. As a quick reminder, Sheer Heart Attack 2 defeated Spin Dash Unleashed in the semi-final of Season 1.0. Spin Dash then went into the play-off against Leprosy Infection, which it won. However, not content with that victory SDU makes a beeline for Leprosy Infection, driving the saw blade into the side mini-skirt (teehee) of Chris€™ machine and slamming it into the spike strip, the saw blade scraping away at the titanium armour all the while.
Meanwhile, Jinx has launched an attack on Crooked, ramming straight at Team Orr€™s entry and getting under the front wedge with those long front spikes, pushing Jack back into onto the killsaws! BZZT! There€™s a smattering of sparks on the titanium underside of Crooked€™s body shell and it€™s spun around, away from Jinx, giving it the perfect opportunity to go on the attack and it does so, driving under the side of Kody€™s machine and firing the flipper to topple it€™s fellow newcomer! However, Jinx is quick to self-right and turns around, using the rear hinged spikes to push underneath Crooked while the flipper is up and drive Jack backwards across the arena into the spike strip! No damage caused, but points for aggression scored for Jinx should this go to a judges decision.
On the other side of the arena Sheer Heart Attack 2 is moving in for an attack against SDU, who is still holding Leprosy Infection against the spike strip. Martijn catches Steven unawares and flips Spin Dash up and over with a smack of the drum, away from Leprosy Infection, who gratefully reverses away from the spike strip and to safety, but one of the skirts is trailing and it looks like it was gnawed away by the saw of SDU. This is dragging on the floor and making fluid movement a bit more difficult for Leprosy Infection, but all the same the drum is spinning and Chris moves in for a revenge attack on Spin Dash Unleashed, who€™s just getting away from the arena wall. His drum makes contact with the side of Steven€™s machine and bumps it up into the air slightly, allowing Chris to push in underneath and turn it slowly back over! There are scrapes all over one side of SDU from the onslaught now and also the other side panel is buckled slightly from Sheer Heart Attack 2€™s onslaught earlier on, making Team Braveheart look worringly damaged already.
While this is going on Crooked has managed to turn the tide on Jinx slightly and by turning gently has eased away from the spike strip to go back on the attack, but again finds itself foiled by the long front spikes of Kody€™s machine. There really isn€™t much Jinx can to do to Crooked though has even though Kody drives in underneath Crooked has Jack turns, putting them side on to each other Crooked€™s 55cm high frame makes it difficult for Jinx€™s axe to get into play. Kody swings it furiously, but Jinx is too far underneath and the arm of the axe simply slams into the side of Crooked, doing no damage. To try and get an attack in with the axe Kody reverses out, but Jack sees his chance and drives off the spikes of Jinx, turning to get under the side of Jinx and Crooked pushes the pink machine across the arena before firing the flipper to topple it again! Once more though Kody swiftly self-rights and goes back on the attack, driving under the raised flipper of Crooked while Jinx€™s axe resets and pushing Jack back across the arena again.
Meanwhile Spin Dash Unleashed has switched targets and is driving on the attack of Sheer Heart Attack 2, pushing under the side of the former champion and slicing away at the part of the tracks that is visible from behind the armour with the vigorous saw blade. However, the tracks have good grip on the floor and Steven is finding it difficult to push Martijn across the arena. He is moving, but certainly a lot slower than Team Braveheart would like. Seeing an opening to attack SDU again Leprosy Infection spins up it€™s drum and goes on the attack, slamming into the side of Steven€™s machine he previously attacked and the vertical weaponry begins to gnaw away at the amour again, eating up the paintwork but not making a lot of headway into the hardox armour itself. Sure there are dents and scratches, but the internals of the Scottish machine are safe for now.
Jinx€™s axe has now reset, along with Crooked€™s flipper, and Kody finally has the opportunity to give Jack€™s machine a good session with his axe. He lets rip and the axe slams down onto the front wedge of Crooked, but the thick hardox holds up well. Clearly frustrated by the difficulty he€™s having in damaging Crooked, Kody keeps up the axe fixed down on Crooked and drives it backwards across the arena, slamming it into the pit release button and retracting the axe, driving further underneath Crooked, causing it to drive up Jinx before falling off sideways! The height of the robot may have prevented Kody getting an attack in earlier on, but it also makes the machine less stable than it would be and Jack is dismayed as Crooked teeters precariously on its edge before falling onto its back. He hits the flipper button to self-right, but succeeds only in stacking himself against the arena side wall just next to the pit release button and thus leaving himself wide open to attack from Jinx, who lines up with the axe and swings it over, putting a massive dent in the titanium lid of Crooked!
On the other side of the arena Sheer Heart Attack has the drum back up to speed and has made it away from SDU, but with a slight limp in the one track where Steven has chewed into it with that infernal saw blade of his. Seeing an opportunity to attack the vulnerable Crooked, Martijn goes across the arena as quickly as he can and tackles the rear of Crooked with his spinning drum, knocking it up into the air and off the wall, but back down onto its wheels in the arena! Crooked is quick to drive away, but it seems to be having trouble as it just moves in a big circle, it€™s rear end slamming into the side of Jinx! It would appear that either the attack by Jinx€™s axe or SHA2€™s drum has severed a connection between the motor and wheel of Crooked, or perhaps damaged the motor itself, because it€™s going nowhere fast!
Meanwhile Spin Dash has gone back on the attack of Leprosy Infection and has slammed into the side of the robot that has that mangled side skirt. The collision is brutal as SDU€™s blade is back up to speed, and so the skirt flies off completely as Steven begins to ram the Team Dinowarrior entry across the arena in the direction of the open pit! However, as Steven and Chris speed across the arena Crooked is put under attack from SHA2, who lurches forward and clips the front wedge of Jack€™s machine with it€™s drum, causing the Team Orr driver to panic and fire the flipper as well as quickly reversing to escape from more damage, but with the damaged drive reversing isn€™t so simple and Crooked turns sideways into the path of SDU pushing Leprosy Infection towards the pit!
It€™s a three bot pile-up as SDU€™s 18HP drive manages to shift all 199kg of Crooked and Leprosy Infection into the pit of oblivion, but Steven can€™t stop in time and Spin Dash takes the plunge too!

Three of the five competing robots in the pit, but Crooked was at the forefront of the bot anarchy and was thus the first robot into the pit. Therefore CrOokEd EvO is eliminated and the remaining four machines advance to the third round of this annihilator!

okay, enough of that, your fights are great and I do enjoy to see you back at this Lewis, very much so, and why cry over Liar 2? I have Sheer Heart Attack 2 to defend my honour!
Hit stuff with the drum, that is what I will be doing. Use my tank style skid steering to face whoever threatens me with my drum. My drum likes wedges and/or slopes, nobody really wants to wedge me where my drum is, whoever does so will only damage himself and the impact will make sure I'm not really gonna get pushed or anything. Likewise, my drum likes flat sides, and it likes knocking opponents over, or damaging them.
