Welcome to Robot Wars! The house is full tonight as we celebrate the return of some old favourites. Let's get on with the first battle.
BATTLE ONE
From Enschede, in the Netherlands, Liar II!
If there's one thing that's true about this robot, it's the two spikes on the front and the powerful flipper that can hoist a ton. It's invertible, and made from Hardox, but the wheels are exposed.
From Texas, in the USA, Negativity!
Opponents will find the spinning blade on top, made from Hardox quite negative. It's powered by 4 24v Magmotors that give it speeds of up to 18mph. The self-righting mechanism is unreliable, though.
Roboteers, stand by.
B1: Liar II
B2: Negativity
House Robots: Sir Killalot and Dead Metal
3-2-1: Activate!
Negativity spins up to speed, so Liar II will have to be careful, and it is, speeding past that evil looking blade. Negativity turns around to pursue, but Liar II comes back. Is that wise? It gets the end of the flipper under the blade and UP goes Negativity! The blade digs into the arena floor, preventing it from going over, and it crashes down. Liar II spins around, only to be met with the blade which has spun up again. Some sparks fly, but Liar II is OK. It backs away to find another angle of attack. Spinning around now to use those spikes. I don't see what use they will be. OH! The blade struck one of the wheels on Liar II and sent it spinning away. It swings around again as Negativity approaches. Liar II moves forward and gets the flipper under again. It doesn't flip, but pushes Negativity towards the CPZ! Into the wall! A deafening SLAM! Dead Metal comes in. He's got Negativity in his claws and now the saw comes down. Liar II stays well away. Sparks fly off the Hardox that Negativity's blade is made from. Now Dead Metal lets go. Out comes Negativity, whose blade is back up to speed. Liar II spins around again, trying to cause some damage with those spikes. I don't think thats possible. Now it stops spinning and gets under Negativity's 5mm ground clearance again. It flips up and OHH! Negativity on its side! The blade is stopped, so I don't think it will self-right! It dug into the arena floor again, almost taking part of it off! Liar II flips AGAIN! Crumpling onto its top, Negativity! It spins around madly, but they won't recover from that. What an impressive display by Liar II, from Enschede. Refbot comes in to count out Negativity, who continues to spin around in some sort of wierd dance.
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10!
Sir Killalot comes in and gets Negativity in his grasp. Look at that! The titanium is crumpled as Negativity is lifted into the air for all to see. Liar II presses the pit release button. Down it goes as Sir Killalot prepares to do the honours. Down goes Negativity!
Cease!
What a way to start the new series! Negativity is definetly negative!
Liar II goes through to the heat final!

A quick note, I'll be going on holiday on Monday and won't be back until the next Monday. Going to Centreparcs in Wiltshire, and so I won't have any internet connections. I'll see how much I can get done in the next few days

BATTLE TWO
From Oxford, in Oxfordshire, Terrorhurtz!
This is their sixth time on Robot Wars, their weapon being that damaging double headed pneumatic axe that has caused upsets in the past. Its low to the ground and well armoured, but still quite easy to flip and suffers from spasms, apparently.
From Edinburgh, in Scotland, seeded 1 and reigning champion, Typhoon II!
The reigning champions from RAF Edinburgh are back with Typhoon II. They beat a host of robots to win the crown and can they do it a second time? The spinning shell with four steel claws can annihilate anything, but it has no self-righting mechanism and is unstable at low speeds.
Roboteers, stand by!
B1: Terrorhurtz
B2: Typhoon II
House Robots: Mr Psycho and Growler
3-2-1: Activate!
Typhoon II, the reigning champion, is already up to full speed and approaching the underdogs, which are Terrorhurtz, who were once a grand finalist. What Terrorhurtz needs to do is use that axe to disable the shell, which spins madly now, but how can they. OH! Charging head on into Typhoon II and both robots are flung aside. Typhoon keeps spinning, not as fast as before, though. Terrorhurtz, is something hanging off? Superficial, I think, but...AND now something does come off! Typhoon II was completly up to speed by then and TORE one of the skirts on the bottom of Terrorhurtz away! The axe comes in, connecting with the spinning shell and making a shower of sparks. Typhoon II hits again and Terrorhurtz is spun away. Ha ha! The axe fires, making Terrorhurtz jump all over the place. How it will help them here, I don't know! They press the pit release button. Down it goes. Maybe they should drive in, because Typhoon II will certainly do it for them. OOH! Another blow and Terrorhurtz loses another skirt! Typhoon II once again stops spinning and that will give Terrorhurtz a chance. Down comes the axe again, but it cannot penetrate the steel shell of Typhoon II, who pushes back. They are dancing close to the pit. Terrorhurtz gets its front underneath Typhoon II and pushes it into the wall! The reigning champions in trouble, can they escape, yes. Away it goes, but still not spinning, it is, but not at full speed. Crashing into Terrorhurtz again, wobbling as it spins, but coming back on. Towards the CPZ...and Growler comes out. He lunges at Terrorhurtz, who brings the axe onto him! I can see something loose in Terrorhurtz, is it something important. Growler rams it into the wall! Mr Psycho comes in, but Terrorhurtz gets away. The hammer...OOH! Hitting our newly polished arena floor! Terrorhurtz hopping and leaping to safety...but Typhoon II is still not spinning! Hang on, what's happened to Terrorhurtz? The champions stay back, because whilst the Terrorhurtz axe swings to and fro in its comic fashion, the robot itself is not moving. Growler gives it a nudge, but Refbot comes in to count it out. Still trying to crawl away, John Reid and Harry Orr, but not getting too far before being shoved by Growler again!

I think that was a very close battle for Typhoon II. The reigning champions, not as destructive as we thought they'd be. Maybe later on, because now Terrorhurtz is being dragged to the floor flipper! AWAY it goes! Crashing to the ground. Ha ha. It self-rights, but that won't do them good now.

Tactics:
OID VS TORNADO
I'll use the ramming wedge for this fight.
Basically, charge towards the disc, stop it from moving, press pit release button, shove the vapour down, nuff said.
STARFIGHTER VS Flow VS Skink
I don't believe that Flow is a realie, and as far as I know, it isn't a vapour with stats...
Anyways, go after Skink, get under his vulnerable sides, and flip him OOTA.
Maxus VS Killoteeny VS Xianghua III VS The Unnamed Feeling VS STRIKE VS Voodoo Chile
I would like to ask for a team-up between me, Steven, and Kody. I'll go for Maxus first of all, and I'll try to ram it towards either Killoteeny or Xianghua III. Afterwards, I'll get under Voodoo Chile's rear, and shove it towards Xianghua. If still another bot needs to be eliminated, then I'll suicidally charge towards The Unnamed Feeling, along with Steve and Kody, and try to wreck AJ's hopes.

STARFIGHTER VS Flow VS Skink
Okay, now that Flow is really scary. However, it has a major flaw, being that it will flip itself over when it fires the flipper. Get onto Flow's flipper, then, at the last second, drive off so he flips himself over. When he does, get underneath him and run towards the wall at high speed. If I can't make it before he self-rights, flip him anyways, however if I can make it to the wall before he tries to self-right, then I'll fire the flipper and get him OOTA.

Ouch, nasty draw here. Focus on Heretic, trying to disable or break the spinning blade and batter the bot into submission. For OverDrive, attempt to outmanouevre and bludgeon its side with the drum till it dies.

Horizontal vs vertical, heh. I'll basically attack every inch of Rolling Pin FTW I can. Drum, wheels, all. Dodge OverDrive's assaults and focus on killing it after Rolling Pin FTW is out.

FEATHERWEIGHT MELEE
From Toronto, in Canada, Heretic!
A fitting name for a vicious looking robot, the main weapon is a spinning blade. It's made from titanium, but the wheels are exposed and it is light.
From South Kestevan, in Lincolnshire, Overdrive!
A box wedge with four wheels, certainly enough to bulldoze past the opposition with its four drill motors. Invertible, but when flipped, the wedge becomes useless.
From Glasgow, in Scotland, Rolling Pin FTW!
Look what comes out of the kitchen drawer today. A rolling pin covered in sharp blades and spinning at 2000rpm. It has limited pushing power though.

B2: Rolling Pin FTW
House Robots: Sir Killalot and Shunt
3-2-1: Activate!
This should be interesting. I like the look of Heretic's weapon. Rolling Pin FTW similar, but vertical. Overdrive sweeps straight under Heretic, getting clipped by the blade. Rolling Pin FTW comes in, only to recieve a hit from Heretic for its troubles. Backing away, and in comes Overdrive once again to push the oddly shaped robot onto the flame pit. In comes Heretic. OH! And something comes flying off Rolling Pin FTW. Was it one of those handles on the wheels? Probably. Overdrive charges into both robots, slamming Heretic into the wall! Heretic recovers, as does Rolling Pin FTW, which presses the pit release button. Down it goes, and almost with Overdrive, who dodges just in time! Rolling Pin FTW crashes into the front of Overdrive and is swept aside. Heretic comes in with the blade. They connect and part of the blade is BENT! Upwards, so that is useless! Heretic taking damage from Rolling Pin FTW. Only 12kg and under, these robots. Overdrive turns, facing Heretic, and rams into the side. Sparks fly from the blade's one remaining side. OOH! Rolling Pin FTW bashed into Overdrive there! Overdrive spins around to face Heretic again, getting under and pushing it towards the angle grinder! Heretic rebounds off, and heads to the centre of the arena. Rolling Pin FTW gets another blow, knocking Heretic to one side and...ha ha! Losing the other handle as well! Overdrive, look at that, comes cruising in again and knocking both aside. Heretic turns to get the blade into play again, clipping the front wedge of Overdrive, but doing little more as it pushes it into Rolling Pin FTW! The impact sends both robots flying away! Heretic's blade spins, but the robot is static. Rolling Pin gives it a nudge, the drum taking a piece of titanium off! Overdrive crashes into the pair again! This must be their tactic, to cause damage by pushing the two into each other. Heretic isn't moving anymore, I'm sure now. Rolling Pin FTW escapes Overdrive's grasp once again as Refbot comes in to count out Heretic.
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10!
What a shame. I liked Heretic, but the blows from Rolling Pin FTW and Overdrive must have been too much. Shunt comes in and bulldozes Heretic onto the drop zone! What's up there? An oven! Rolling Pin FTW comes in to add more injury to the battered Heretic as the crowd count down!
3-2-1!
Down it comes. OOH! It crumples Heretic! One of the spikes on the bottom came off! Rolling Pin FTW just got out of the way, only for Overdrive to shove it into Sir Killalot! That wasn't wise. The Scottish robot tries to escape, but Killalot is on its tail! The last ten seconds count down. Shunt pushes Heretic into the pit. The end for them. I like Overdrive. Pushing Rolling Pin FTW one more time to a judge's decision.
Cease!
What a right royal rumble. Heretic is definetly out. The other two will go the judges, who vote the winner on Style, Control, Damage and Aggression.

Rolling Pin FTW: S: 2 C: 2 D: 2 A: 2 Total: 8

Bleh, at least I whooped Heretic. :P
This is a surprisingly tricky fight to call. Typhoon 2 can't self-right, but Liar 2 has those exposed wheels...
What the hey. I'll call Typhoon 2 to prove too nimble and set Liar's pants on fire. :lame:

Sam? Kody? How about we destroy that wreck of a bot known as CrOoKeD eVo?
My strategy: American Oil actually stands a chance of surviving this if only for the fact that OID and CrOoKeD eVo are here. Get underneath the front of Crooked(It has 2mm ground clearance at the front, so its flipper doesn't touch the ground :proud: ) and flip it upside-down. Then use my tracks to send it to Super Gore so it gets crushed. If by some means Crooked escapes Super Gore's crushing jaws, then flip it and send it to Theseus so we can both launch it OOTA. If anything, we can let Steve go to town on OID and prevent him from showing up for the next fight.

then tear anything with the disk that comes near me, protect my team and focus on getting through :)

To be honest, Jack, it is your fault that CrOoKeD EvO's flipper doesn't touch the ground... :proud:
But anyways, tactics are still the same. Flip CrOoKed EvO, shove it into Super Gore Septua, Flip OID into both Theseus and Traffic Warden, don't get destroyed, OOTAed, pitted, etc.

The first place in the grand final up for grabs. Typhoon II spins up as Liar II waits its moment. We've seen what Typhoon II can do earlier in the heat, so Liar II...OH! It came in for a flip but got spun away! One of the front spikes has been bent! Damage to Liar II, and they need to do something here. Typhoon II approaches. Liar II tries to get away but gets clipped on the side! A slight gash, but nothing else. It turns away, perhaps to get the flipper underneath. Typhoon II looks like a blur! It wasn't up to speed before, I felt, but here it is! Coming in again! OHH! Liar II knocked to one side and the spike comes off! That doesn't stop it though. It charges again and LOSES the other spike! The flipper rises, but lifts nothing! Typhoon II on top here. It comes in again, but Liar II backs away. Into the pit release button. Typhoon II closes in again and hits the wheel of Liar II! Liar II ALMOST in the pit from that impact but not! Typhoon II waits. Maybe one more hit will do it! Matilda looks on from the CPZ. Liar II turns one way, and then the other! Trying to bait Typhoon II into driving in the pit, but they won't fall for it! Liar II is stuck between the pit and Matilda, and I don't think they have full control! I think the tyre has jammed against the body and isn't moving! Liar II crippled out there, and Typhoon II is coming in to end it...OOH! Liar II spun towards the wall! On the corner of the CPZ, so Matilda can come in! The flywheel RIPS into the Hardox! Another great slice down the side of Liar II. Still moving, but not on the other side. Refbot comes in. Liar II is out, and they know it.

Typhoon II, the reigning champion is through to the grand final once again! Matilda comes in with her flywheel again. The OTHER WHEEL goes flying off of Liar II! Growler comes in and gets Liar II in his jaws. Towards the pit. Liar II goes in! What a victory for Typhoon II!

I don't think many people are taking material properties into account here. Try bending a Hardox axle to jam the tire...right.
Also those spikes are Hardox, a few hits couldn't even BEND them.
And this isn't even my bot I'm talking about. Liar 2 wasn't even given a second thought here.
Typhoon 2 is good, but not that good.
EDIT: What I do think is that, in this particular instance, Elliot is randomly selecting who goes through and then writing a scenario around it, trying to make it sound likely. That's not how vapourbots goes, Elliot.
And don't even have a go at me about the C&B series, I did things like Nick's Byte Size first for match percentages, then waited for tactics to see if the percentages would sway.

The only robot I ever built was made from an RC racing car and MDF. My uncle made one as well, which was an RC car with a toy shopping basket on it and several plastic spikes and drink bottle lids stuck to it
Mine is gone, I think my uncle's is as well
I'm not terribly good with metal armour. When I watch the real fights, I just base mine on what I see. Which now I know might make a blind bit of difference with what I write

Just to point out, Elliot, In one of the first fights of VRW 1, even though it was crappy, Liar 2 still didn't suffer that much damage, and its opponent was much tougher then Typhoon 2...

No problem. It's just that bots shouldn't be eliminated due to bias or randomization. If a robot defeats another robot, it is due to being stronger, a certain advantage, or having a more clever tactic than the other bot that actually works. Seriously, I do like Typhoon 2, but that fight wasn't right at all.

This is why you should consider shapes, armours, weapons, and strategies properly before writing battles. Otherwise, people will be displeased with you, and not just me.

I read it, Kody. And I'm certain I just about broke every rule of made up Robot Wars realism and organising
So with that, I'm sorry to say this tournament is on hold, and probably will be until I feel up to writing again
Sorry to those who entered, but I don't feel in the mood for writing about Robot Wars anymore. I would have called this series 'Robot Wars Series Eight', to celebrate 12 years of Robot Wars
