your typing like you have already had alcohol.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
lol tom i'd agree with you there i tvink mines gonna look gay to be vonist- witv basically a square cvassis with massive wveels on eacv side:P and witv a drum on the front probabily will look strange lol but its not about the looks its about the vorizontal disk ripping off device on the front.
and jamie im intrigued, altvougv its not clear wvat you mean lol are you sure your not merry and tipsy now?:P
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
No, sadly I'm perfectly sober rigvt now
I'll fill you in Calum next time you're on MSN, its an activity tvat us vertical lads can participate in to underline tve supreme awesomeness of tve verticals :D
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
It wont look gay, looks good so far. Im just trying to convince you not to use the anti horizontal stuff. makes my life easier then :p
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
u mean connect 4 jamie? lots of disk shaped pieces of plastic being placed vertically into the game frame thing:P tom you be tryin to put them in vorizontally which would mean they wont fit so the verts would win:D
i've decided to go back to using H its only when its grouped with FTW or orizontal that it becomes wrong to use:P

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Just hijacking your build diary for a sec calum. Been doing some work on Savage Evo today, I replaced a drive motor and grub screws holding the drive gears onto the motor shafts today. Also i rebuilt the gearbox for the spinning disk. The chassis on Evo is bent quite alot and some of the welds have broke, so im going to brace it up some time this week and then grind out some of the welds and weld it myself. Might rebuild the whole robot if i have time. Ill build it exactly the same as it is now, so you probs wont even be able to tell its been rebuilt.
Hows yours coming along Calum?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
good to hear you've sorted some of the problems out, i say its better than just sticking it back in the arena like said u were going to do the other day lol
and its the same still lol,
im gonna do some more tomorrow though:) sort out the battery holder thingy, cut some hdpe extra armour panels and im going to cut a new piece of pipe for the drum as the one i've got isn't cut straight. i should have my endcaps, teeth and wheels to me by wednesday ish with a bit of luck - if i do, ill get the drum sorted and mounted the next day and then order the right sized belt in time for a test at the weekend- then if anything goes massivly wrong- like the robot destroys its self or something ill have a couple of weeks to sort it out still:)
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
If you're in the process of rebuilding/repairing Savage Evo Tom, you should just rotate the plane of the disc setup by 90 degrees, and you'll have yourself an awesome spinner that you can proudly class as vertical :D
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Caulm I had a few hours to kill today, so i thought ill have a play with evo, within 30 secs the motor that was crushed started sparking, the back plate on the motor popped right of and it was shorting out. When i took the side pannels off to change the motor i saw broken welds, so whole robot has to come appart to get the frame out. I rebuilt the gearbox just because i had nothing else to do at the time.
Jamie why would i wanna do that? Everyone knows an ok-ish horizontal can beat the best vert. FACT!
We better start typing on the events discussion page about the tag champs shouldnt we? were messing up your build diary thread :uhoh:
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Haha yeah poor Calum's build thread is disappearing amongst the raging debate of vertical vs vorizontal
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
lol its a price worth paying jamie,
tom you should change your signature to ' if its not spinnin vertically, its not fun' makes more sence as im sure jamie would aggree:P
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Jamie needs to shift his a$$ into bed.
But yes, I agree :D  8)

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
im guessing your anti HORIZONTAL device is like this .. http://www.happyrobots.com/images/sun2-7_lg.jpg
thats what this wise drum bot decided to do.. http://www.happyrobots.com/images/sun2-6_lg.jpg
IMO he was sensible :) he woulda been stupid to put a verticle up against a horizontal.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
boo! hooray for vertical! whats a minor implosion from a Vorizontal  when we can have pure awesomeness :)
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Talk in tag champs chat, His build diary is starting to fade away.
besides more people with spinners are likely to look there so we will get more opinions.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
in an effort to re-light my build diary thread heres some pics etc:D
dave no its not lol mabye a bit similar but my drum will be protected from horizontals but at the same time be able to hit stuff- intrigued? im not merry or tipsy either:P
did some more today:)
DSC02530.JPG[/attachment:seprnj9w]
thats the 12 volt battery thats fixed to the base of the robot held in at one end by the drum motor bulkhead and the other end by a fastening thingy:)
DSC02532.JPG[/attachment:seprnj9w]
here i've mounted each speedo for the 2 drill motors on the front blukhead that sits behind the drum
DSC02534.JPG[/attachment:seprnj9w]
above- heres almost all the innards inside the robot, im waiting for the drill motor brackets to get delivered so the drills are loosely sat in there, and the top battery pack mounts can be seen, and below is another pic with the top battery in place which will be fully held inplace by the top lid.
and heres another pic (in the next post below the first one) of the robot with the drum sat in there, and i've got some wheels which are similar to the ones im going to be finally using and i've just leaned them against the robot to get a sence of how non horizontal proof they will be:P
seeing as the top battery is going to be such a serious axe magnet, ill be running the drive off the bottom battery so if the top battery gets axed the drum will probabily just not work- but ill still be able to drive about:)

personally i think its gonig to look strangely square, but ill just stop complaining:P
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Looking orite calum. Loving the fastening thingy.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Looks good, hope it turns out as well as your other machines :)
Is the roll of random tape an essential structural component or did it just end up in there?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
the role of tape is where the action happens, it will control the robot:P
it was just in there to hold the drills up to where they will be mounted once i've got the motor brackets in
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
looks tidy mate, not to confident about the choice of possition for those packs though. No way you could of mounted them both in the back of the robot in a similar way? ... like just take of the lower back plate to pull them both out?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
i didn't wana have the batteries too near the back of the robot because when/if im against vorzontals ill be reversing into them alot, so i've got an air gap there, but also if i had the batteries at the back the drum motor bulk head wouldn't be able to be fixed to the back bulkhead and in a few other places - and also the whole bulkhead would be weakend as it would have to have an even bigger massive gap cut out, so i've gone for putting them where they are now - when u see my robot you'll see what i mean lol

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
today the bits from grant arrived- the drums end caps, teeth, motor brackets and wheels so today i planned on getting the drum fully mounted and ofcourse nothing goes to plan and after a few set backs i managed to get the drum finished at least without the teeth for now. heres some pics........................
DSC02542.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]
in the above pic this is my old drum, eagle eyed onlookers may notice its cut in half:P thats because i tried out the endcaps in it and they got completly stuck and they ended up going too far into the drum and were impossible to get out again so the only thing i could do was cut the drum in half which took ages and knock them both out afterwards.
DSC02544.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]
this is the finished new section of pipe for my drum i held the tooth against it to see what it would look like:) for now i've just used those hex head bolts, eventually i'll get some counter sunk ones in there.
DSC02545.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]
and this if the finished drum spinning:)- with out the teeth still.
the weight of the chassis is 7.5kg- thats including batts, speedos and pretty much the whole robot not including the top armour and the wheels, and the drum with the shaft and new teeth weighs 3.4kg, so hopefully it should all be ok.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Pfft, 3.4kg and with not all of that spinning?
Mine's 4.5kg of rotating mass...
Seriously though, it looks great so far :) you thinking of going brushless for the weapon drive sometime in the future?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
your nick whos making a drum aswell arnt you:) how is yours comming along?
and this robot is only trouble starter mark 1 and is my first go at making a spinner and i don't know much about spinning stuff lol. TS2 will be better once this robot has tested the water so to speak so i would most probabily be upgrading the weapon motor in the next one aswell as other stuff- lol thats if any of this robot is re-usable after sept.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
It's going good thanks, I just added you on MSN :) but yeah, the robot is progressing nicely, main thing which still needs finishing is the drum which is still being machined... it's all done in 304 stainless with tool steel teeth. Couple of big brushless motors to spin it, thick (and I mean thick) titanium armour, and a couple of motors to move it around... pretty simpleminded machine really, but hopefully effective!
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
I gotta get myself some of those drum teeth 8)
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
lol yh, they look nice but dont going ripping them off during a fight because ill want them back:P
the drum belts arrived from technobots this morning along with the bearing that ill tension it with by putting it on a bolt-same thing as what jamies done with drumroll.
i don't care how long im in my shed for im going to get the drum mounted and working today:) ill try n get a video of me mabye hittin something that can be safley hit in a back garden later something made of wood mabye.
fingers crossed nothing goes massivly wrong:)
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
i'm had a short break from robot stuff cos i was starvin so i though i might aswell upload a video of the drum spinning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDqkInOGzhg
anyway im off to make some buffers to stop the drum sliding side to side and to cut the shaft down etc and all the rest, im hoping to have a hitting stuff test later but depends if theres time.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Got them teeth sorted yet Calum? And did that other parcel get to you with the HDPE in?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
yh it came-----thanks
and no i've messed it up theres only so much you can do in a shed lol so im sending it to kenny to sort for me, i can spin it at about 200rpm- this is just me guessing from watching it btw lol and as i up the speed it starts vibrating badly, i've spent most of today trying to sort it out by tapeing defferent weights to the drum in certain place to get an idea of how bad it is but i've not succeeded so rather than me going crazy im going to send it to kenny, seeing as he has made several drums before he obviously knows what hes doing unlike me lol
although at the slow speed it was spinning at it still slices into HDPE nicley thou
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Guess it shouldnt be a problem for you getting through the 5mm HDPE on savage evo. might be 8mm in places tho.
Id better get to bed. I got to get somthing done with evo tomorrow.
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
its that disk that im afraid of lol
''4.04 am'' is there much point:P

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
Im scared of that thing, in a good way

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
well i have done it.............-very nearly finished one of the worst looking robots i've ever made, with its massive clown wheels and square chassis, i think it looks bloody horrible and im looking forward to making Trouble Starter 2 already with massive changes in mind - overall im not blameing the wheels- which grant supplied with the drum end caps and a few other parts as its just my bad design, which i feel would have looked one hell of a lot better if i had the origional wheel protection on - but unfortunatly the weight wouldn't allow for it.
the one good thing about the robot should be that its gonna have a half decent weapon at least and aswell as that be invertible other than that im really not happy with it.
it makes me cringe to think about it, but ill put a few pics up on here, all i need to do now is drill and tap alot of mounting holes for the top armour but seeing as im out of the right sized bolts i need, i decided to call it a day.
DSC02565.JPG[/attachment:8s01bdhc]
thats 35mms worth of HDPE (15mm chassis and a 20mm piece bolted ontop of that) at the back of the robot to hopefully defend against horizontals and to also offer a bit of rear wheel protection
DSC02566.JPG[/attachment:8s01bdhc]
thats a view from the front,- thats where the drum will go inbetween the ali bulkheads- which is actually on its way to kenny because its off ballance etc so he's gonna sort it out for me:)
heres another pic of a rambot im throwing together for one of team mates to have a mess about with at some point during the weekend which after ill hopefully sell to one of them:D, i just stood the side panels up near the robot to see what it was looking like.- its really just something that can get chucked about in whiteboards.
DSC02567.JPG[/attachment:8s01bdhc]
this event will be the first and the last time ill use this spinner, fingers crossed the drums gonna be re-usable for the next robot ill make which im going to make sure doesn't look the same:P
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
So anything happening? Ill probs get an update of my stuff on my page in the next couple of days. Hows the rambot coming along?
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
feeling a bit annoyed, i was wanting to try out my spinner for a drive about- put the link in and smoke fumes out of the reciever and i think from somewhere else- for absoultly no logical reason what so ever as i checked everything several times and it was all ok.
now ive got to try and find out now what still works and what doesn't grrrr
and the rambot is comming along slowly but surley as im trying to mainly get the drag racer and this spinner sorted out.
im off to have a sulk at the thought of the price im gonna have to pay to replace things:(
-
Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects
drive speed controllers still ok and so is the reciever even though smoke was comming out of it, but i think i've blown the speed controller that i was gonna control the drum motor with won't no properly untill i've properly tested it- as its not connected to the drum motor yet etc
