Lol Glad to hear it! :)
I have been thinking for a while to upgrade to a123 but want to get it right the 1st time,
have been looking through these threads and have seen some pics that john has posted of
4S5P A123 packs being made.........
these look like 4 packs in series to give 13.2 volts but at the same 5 cells are connected
in parallel to give 5 x the amps,
how can these be balanced ?
I didnt know that we can even charge in paralell
surely any faulty cells might not be detected by the chargers ?
I suppose if this is an easy solution just 1 big battery the only downside is that it
takes longer to charge as only 1 charger can be used.
here are some cells ive found on ebay they look ok and are available in larger
ammounts but dont really get any cheaper !
has anyone ever bought any ? i am wondering if customs would stick on any
import tax ? I might buy 1 lot at a time to find out.

very cheap but have you seen the postage also when you buy fron usa i get a tax normaly :( go for ones from china ( i did)
You can only be charged VAT if the value of the item is above a certain threshold. I can't remember exactly what it is atm but I'm sure its around the 50 quid mark or you can ask the seller if they will declare them as a gift as you will definately pay nothing. Some will, some won't.
Very cheap though!
Dont know anything on the cells but the import limit to the UK is only £18 anything above that you get taxed on the full amount
Wow that's changed a fair bit since I last imported something :)
I also just seen the postage that guy is asking, $98!?! Suddenly not so cheap
I think its about £68 inc postage, the reason for the high postage is because ebay charge them 10% final value fee but nothing on the postage !
there is another seller from china or hong kong that charge £80 inc p+p
im looking at replacing my home made packs for some made by robot market place
they now come with the option of balance leads which was a concern for people before
just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them
link here http://www.robotmarketplace.com/product ... i-ion.html
i'm looking at getting some 12.8-14.4v packs with balance leads on (a123 cells)
any help would be great
thanks alex
Why bother? The prices are fairly steep there and then you have shipping and import taxes
well there aren't really any other options that i can see open to me
Make your own again?
well my last attempts weren't successful and that also cost money this way the risk is less in my eyes
Fair play, I'd offer to solder you up a pack but I wouldn't be able to do so anytime soon as I'm not gonna be back in my workshop for a good month at least.
any one else with comments or opinions on what i should do?
has anyone maybe bought Nicad packs custom made form RMP before? an opinion on those would be useful also
Thanks
how many cells do u have good what packs do u want ill make them at fairford for you ok
Alex, we bought a set of Nicads from RMP a few years ago, one pack went up in smoke which was probably due to us charging them after fighting Thz without inspecting them so that may have had some damage. The other packs still works perfectly, seem well made although Technobots packs seemed to have more protection but that means they keep their heat longer.
cheers Ed i have got the packs now and from looking at them they look well made and fit nicely into the battery bays yet to charge or test them
Actually who makes the RMP packs is BattlePacks ;)
In RioBotz we used several packs from them, both NiCd and LiFe, really good stuff.
Although a bit pricey since 2007 not even a pack had issues.
Cheers,
Eduardo
Would these be the normal spec for A123 cells that are used now by the heavyweight teams ?

Anybody used this or other suppliers on ebay recently that they can recommend for the same cells ?
Need to save some weight on new heavy that hasnt even left the drawing board yet !
Cheers Ian...pp Will.

Anyone know where we can get some premade 8 cell 123 packs from? Prefer not to make our own packs so trying the premade route 1st
We've tried electricwingman and a few other companies but not getting many answers back
have you tried http://www.battlepack.com/
Doh, stupid me, forgot to say we were trying from U.K or Europe 1st
Will have to try the states if we cant get anything from U.K/Europe
