2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
that would be one possible example.
another would be half way through the year there is an Iron Awe VI and Iron Awe V is sold to another team (just an example). Does IA6 loose the history of points wins or do they get the IA5 points and IA5 has to start again?
Not really a big issue over the winter tour but in a whole year?
-
2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
should have said IA6 was completely new part way throught he year. (appologies if I have lost track of build number).
I would suggest with this scenario the team elects which bot takes the score
would not deter new builds.
Avoiding possible ill feeling by setting out the rules seems a sensible solution and would give certainty to the teams - so not a we will tell you when we see it rule.
I like the idea of a long competition - it just comes with some complications

2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
Thats a goods point Mark,
And hopefully if people keep thinking of the problems, we can resolve them before they occur.
I think in that scenario, when one robot replaces another, as an evolution, the points can stay with the team, and the new robot gets them.
When someone starts a new robot, wih a new concept which clearly isnt an evolution then they start a fresh with the points too.
Like in rallying, if a driver wrecks his car, they build a new one and carry on. Formula 1 teams develop their cars over the year. Football teams get new players.
It can easily be compared, and i dont see it being a problem.
So you would be able to use the old one.... and then tranfer over to the new one when ready.
Good point though.

Not sure about feathers yet.
And you get to fight a robot twice only.

2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
so we can fight TZH twice in 1 day cool :)

Thanks John, I think allowing evolution is a sound decision. Max twice against any bot is good too.
... even better JL is happy to swap if we draw THz, new Alice will have fresh paintwork and we wouldnt want it scratched.
... that isnt a challange to THz to do more than scratch the paintwork!

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
Hi just a note for Mr Stu,
The Saint has retired. And will not be running from now on. So please remove it from the competitors list.
To be frank it was a rubbish robot and I hope the new owner can do something better with the chassis than I did.
St Hammer is still going strong, and to confuse the matter I am changing the name of St Hammer to The Saint, from now on. As it now runs a sword more than a hammer!
So the old Saint is dead, long live the new Saint

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
HI guys,
Well the Uk Championship format is certainly working, and there has been some good hard faught fights!!
The brentwood format worked well having 3 way battles rather than 1v1, word on the street is that its a lot more entertaining. As long as you dont draw both iron Awe's !!!
Below is the current standings.

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
oh looked ok on the preview... the forum doesnt accept tabs then as spaces !
You get the idea.
Remember... only the top 8 fight scores from each robot count. And it is the top 12 going through to the finals !!

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
I'm in a moaning mood today!
Is it just me or does the scoring system seems a bit strange to me. I mean if you look at the leage table take for example Big Nipper and And His Army, Cabraken. Why is it 9th and us 10th and Cabraken 11th? Surly Robots that are on equal points would then take the number of Wins, 2nd places and Losses into account in that order. Its only fair, it should not be on the number of fights.
Take KO & Pressure for example, they have lost 2 fights so surly they should be at the bottom.
Not getting at anyone, just pointing out that it should be made a bit clear as later on in the year it will remove any ambiguity that might arise.

I'm guessing for that one, event though they've lost two fights, they still get a point per loss which means that since they've got 2 points each, it would be odd-looking on the table for them to be at the bottom when the robots above them only have one point, albeit they've only had one fight.
Not sure on the And His Army, Big Nipper, Cabraken situation - perhaps it takes into account the number of battles they've had first? Jonno will probably have a more make-sense-of reply than this one :)

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
I think it is worked on points and then the name of the robot. Maelstrom is above me but has the same points because M is before S. :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:
But i Could be wrong, the main point is you are in the top 12 at the moment that is all that matters. as the contest works its corse the 12th and 13th position will be the ones that matter to the Roboteers. :D :D :D
-
Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
Oh Puck and Storm Force need to swap round
-
Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
blimey somone is in a moaning mood.
Its points - then alphabetical (for now)
It will be on points - number of wins - number of second place when we get near the end.
-
Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
** IMPORTANT UPDATE **
Hi Guys,
Well as most of you know, life has its up and downs, and here its no exception.
2009 has been a hard year, and unfortunately the credit crunch and the fact its been so long since robot wars has been on TV has really taken its toll. So much so on a few occasions this year I have been close to losing it all.
Luckily enough there€™s two sides to RR, events, and my long lasting and ever expanding Educational projects. Unfortunately this year on several occasions this paid educational work has had to subsidise losses from ticket sales. Not a good situation to be in.
This can€™t go on any longer and during the summer I have had to make some pretty serious changes in order to survive these hard times, along with other organisations I know in the entertainment sector who are doing the same things.
You will have noticed that the Winter Tour events have now swapped from 2 days, to 1 day. I know that around 50% of roboteers prefer two day events, however the cost of the Saturday night show currently doesn€™t make enough profit let alone cover the costs in some instances.
The RR arena is currently in a the middle of another redesign, this time the change is going to be quite drastic, however it is all part of the €œ big change €œ.
Now during my cost saving€¦ there€™s one other thing which is going to have to go€¦
Unfortunately, although I was originally planning on having a substantial amount of prize money for the UK champs, it€™s going to have to go. It€™s been a hard decision, not taken lightly, but in order to survive it has to be done.
I will pledge to still provide a trophy worth fighting for, and of course the honour of becoming the 2009 UK champion. I have entrusted someone to make it, and it will be under construction very soon.
I hope that you will all understand this hard decision€¦I have many times in the past taken the hit, but its time to make commercial decision in these tough times.
Maybe there will be a few teams who don€™t want to carry on competing in the competition, that€™s fine and understandable but hopefully the majority will understand and support the decision.
If of course things change, and the big changes work€¦ then hopefully 2010 will be yet another successful and profitable year for us all.
Regards
John

Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
Teambud are not in it for the money mate.....no worries. you make sure you look after your family and yourself first before us lot. :)
-
Re: 2009 FRA Heavy Weight UK Championship.
Not fallen off my chair in shock, just thought it went without saying to be honest. I actually find it quite re-assuring that you don't take these decisions as a knee jerk reaction and clearly struggle with them. It shows that you have the best interests of the sport and the roboteers at heart. Tough call but necessary, well done!
On a more important subject, I've been meaning to ask for a while if we still have the cage?

Prize money / expenses were a nice to have when the going was good but I think most people will just be glad that you are still putting on events.
