And your realie replacement for Envy is....
the idea of ingoring Mark is really catching on!
He just makes me soooooooooooooooooo angry
Alex - if you could correct your entry list please and if Daniel could also give his list, then Ill be a very happy person :)
Youve certainly grown Paul, but for some reason I feel youve gotten impatient with the all-stars and challenge belt tournaments just like you to impatient with eotr3 and 4 back then, which is why you halt them and start eotr5.
Theres no grudge from my side and I certainly hope you understand why I do this :), I just dont wanna be disapointed again :)
Actually, to be honest Martijn, that was exactly how I felt. Im willing to give him one last chance, but if this turns into another hypo, Im not entering EOTR6. Regardless of where I finish.
Sorry to be a pain changing my line-up again Paul, but do you mind if I replaced Brutalis 3.0 with Hatchet: Evo, as I noticed that I have almost all lifters/flippers. If you allow me to make this last change my list would be:
1) LockJaw
2) Beta-Rex
3) Apocalypse
4) Werewolf
5) Collateral Damage
6) Hatchet: Evo
7) Panic Attack
8) Storm II
Given that my exams have finished, I should have all the time I need, and given that I made those hypos because of those exams, I should be fine. And I agree with Joey - exams really do start to bore you. There are only a number of times before you can quote Shakespeare, or give an angle for a triangle, or do any of that before you lose all sense of fun - even one of the hardest working people in my class said that she believed them to be a waste of time.

to be fair Paul, I believe this is the first time you actually name your exams as an excuse for those hypos
and if you have so much time, why not just continue all stars and the belt?
I too would rather see the Challenge belt finished before you start a new tournement.

Length/Width/Height: 100cm x 40cm x 35 - 25cm (the robot€™s height decreases from the front to the back).
Shape: Invertible box with a section cut out of the front, which houses the spinning drum. The rear of the robot is rounded and each side has a thick Hardox spike, stopping it from resting on its side.
Weight: 100KG
Motivation: 2 foam filled go kart wheels made of uber-tough rubber.
Speed: About 18mph
Weapon: The main weapon is a 20kg spinning drum, powered by 2 Huqsvarna 3120XP chainsaw motors. The weapon is capable of changing gears during a match. Originally, the drum spins at 2400RPM when geared down 10:1, but this can be increased to 2:1 at systematic intervals of 2 gearings (10:1, 8:1, 6:1, 4:1 2:1). The 4mm Titanium drum is fitted with 2 horizontal Hardox bars, welded, screwed and riveted on to avoid them coming off. These are designed not only to flip, but to rip off skirts and armouring. The drum can hit with over 10kJ of force when spinning at 2400RPM, and increases to an astonishing 243kJ when spinning at 2:1 gearing (12000RPM). However to avoid self destructing, the spin will only spin at a maximum speed of 4800RPM.
Drive: 24v Sinclair C5 motors.
Power: 4 x 24v NiCad batteries.
Armour: 5mm Titanium and Vanadium alloy.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, 7mm all around.
Turning Circle: 0M
Srimech: Invertible.
Name: Supreme Glory Omega
Weight: 100kg
Armour: 20mm Lexan and LexiGuard compound and 4mm Grade 5 Titanium skirts.
Speed: 18mph, running of 2 x S28-400 MagMotors running at 24v.
Shape: Box shaped with Ti skirts on each side.
Weapon 1: An 11kg Aluminium alloy axe powered by liquid Nitrogen running at 1000psi. The axe mechanism is a rack and pinion system, using a 100mm stroke, 80mm bore pneumatic cylinder.
Strengths: Strong armour and very manoeuvrable.
Weaknesses: Axe only works if something is in front or behind the robot.
Ground Clearance: 0mm all around due to skirts.
Srimech: The axe self rights the robot.
Notes: The 2 wheels are made from Ti/V alloy and coated in Vulcalore to aid in traction. The robot is covered in 20mm Lexan and LexiGuard compound. The axe weighs a total of 11kg and is shaped like Excaliburs axe from series 3 of Robot Wars. This shape is designed to focus all the force on a single point, meaning it can pierce through armour easily. To stop the robot hopping around when the axe is fired, the robot incorporates a vacuum system. This system basically sucks SG0 to the ground and is mainly used when fighting pushers or robots with superior pushing power. This mechanism can be knocked on and off during the match. The robot carries 4kg of liquid Nitrogen on board and has roughly 35 hits per fight. The axe can come down with roughly 2 tonnes of force at the tip, meaning that the axe could knock certain opponents out in one hit.
Name: Manic Monsoon
Weight: 100kg
Armour: 5mm Hardox all over.
Speed: Roughly 28mph
Shape: Box wedge with side skirts and rounded back.
Weapon 1: A linear actuator powered lifter running by a 4 bar system at 24v. This can lift 200kg easily.
Weapon 2: A small strip of Grade 5 Titanium on the front wedge, which gives 0mm ground clearance.
Strengths: Powerful drive and good strong weapon
Weaknesses: A bit too fast and hard to control when at full speed.
Ground Clearance: 0mm on front and sides, 1cm at back.
Srimech: Invertible, but can self right using the lifter if wanted to.
Notes: The robot is powered by 2 B42-500 MagMotors running at 60v. This gives Monsoon approx 60HP! The robot has a total of 6 wheels, 3 on each side. Each side is linked together by a set of heavy duty belts, giving 0m turning circle and the manoeuvrability of a 2 wheeled robot, and each wheel is coated in Vulcalon. The front wedge is angled at 42.5 degrees, meaning that it is not too steep or too shallow. The lifting arm is powered by a S28-150 MagMotor, and is made from 7075 Aluminium. The lifter itself can lift a total of 200kg, and can self right the robot if needs be. The side skirts are made from 4mm Titanium and are hinged.
Name: Sonic Boom
Weight: 100kg
Armour: 1cm thick Hardox wheel hubs, 5mm Hardox axe head and 5mm thick axe pole. The axle joining the 2 wheels is made from 6mm Titanium and Vanadium alloy.
Speed: 28mph.
Shape: The robot is an axlebot based around Stinger.
Weapon 1: A momentum powered axe, which can come down with 800kgs of force.
Strengths: Hard to grab hold off and very tough armour. Great manoeuvrability.
Weaknesses: Poor pushing power.
Ground Clearance: 10mm.
Srimech: The robot is invertible.
Notes: The robot is powered by 2 LEM 130s, giving 28mph top speeds. The wheels are made from aircraft grade Aluminium, with Hardox wheel hubs and thick rubber treads. All the electronics, batteries and wiring are hidden inside the wheels. The 1cm thick wheel hubs should mean that nothing can damage the innards of Sonic Boom. To save weight on the robot, the wheels are only 20cm high, but are also 20cm wide, increasing traction on the arena floor. The axe head is modelled on Stingers axe from series 4 of Robot Wars, but is a lot tougher due to the 50cm, 5mm Hardox axe pole and 5mm Hardox axe head. The axe is momentum powered, meaning that when the robot stops moving from a charge, the axe swings over head and hits what ever is in front of it. This method of weaponry is not accurate most of the time, but when it does hit, it can cause a lot of damage. The 10mm ground clearance all over the robot should stop it getting stuck on arena obstacles.
Name: Pure Evil: Revenge of the Disc
Weight: 100kg
Armour: 7mm Hardox ring spinner and 4mm Titanium flipper/wedge.
Speed: 8mph
Shape: It is a ring spinner with a front wedge.
Weapon 1: The main body is a ring spinner made from 7mm Hardox, with Titanium teeth all over it. It is powered by a LEM130 motor at 48v geared down 3:1. This means the body can reach a top speed of 2400RPM. The disc weighs a total of 38kg.
Weapon 2: A spinning kinetic powered flipper, based on Team Whyachi€™s €œWarrior SKF€Â. It uses the kinetic energy from the disc to power the flipper, meaning it can flip with a total of 298KJ of energy.
Strengths: Unique and powerful weaponry. Good control.
Weaknesses: Takes a long time to self right due to the disc needing to spin up successfully.
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front and sides of flipper, 5mm at back due to ring spinner.
Srimech: The flipper can successfully self right the robot.
Notes: The robot is powered by 2 800w 36v DC motors giving 8mph top speeds. The wheels are made from Vulcalon, and have screws embedded in them to help gain traction on the arena floor. The ring spinner is powered by a LEM130 motor at 48v geared down 3:1. This means the body can reach a top speed of 2400RPM. There are 15 1€ cubed Titanium teeth all over the horizontal spinner, giving it 298KJ of energy on impact. The flipper works because there is an eccentric land on top of the spinning ring. The top link connected to the flipper plate has a groove in it, when fired the top link engages with the spinner land and pulls backward flipping the plate up. At the front of the flipper there is a 4mm Titanium €œnose€ with a sharpened edge designed to get under all skirts and ground clearances. All the electrics are kept within the 1m diameter of the ring spinner.
Still overweight :P
€ Shuffling/tracked robots weigh a maximum of 110kg
quote:

For Realies, Ill enter Roadblock and Cunning Plan, both from series 1 of Robot Wars.
Cunning Plan is FEATHERWEIGHT - you need a heavy weight.
Fine, replace it with The Creature, series 4.

1 spot remaining! Who will grab that last spot?
By the way Alex H - you need to remove 2 of your vapours and replace them with real robots.
Masamune
Shape: Barrel shaped, with a 20 CM long wedge at the front, with a sword blade extender. More on this a little later.
Speed: 15 MPH
Size: 80x50x25 CMs (LWH)
GC: 3 CMs at the sides and rear, 0 at the front.
Armour: 6 mm Hardox all over except for a 5 mm Ali baseplate. With the exception of the wedge, the barrel is made out of one sheet of hardox so there are no plates that can just be torn off.
Weapon: Retractable sword lifter. The sword blade can be extended 15 CMs out from the wedge to allow it to get under any spinner safely, or it can be retracted to extend only a couple of CMs from the wedge to allow it to lift with more control. The actual moving part s the wedge, which is powered by two linear actuators and should be able to lift around 200 KGs. It can also be lowered slightly, causing the sword to dig into the floor slightly resulting in it being able to get under even 0 GC wedges and skirts. The actual sword blade is made from 5 mm grade 5 Ti.
Drive: 4 internal wheels with vulkanised tyres, powered by two S28-400 Magmotors at 24 volts.
Batteries: 4 packs of 24 volt NiCads.
Shrimech: The rollover barrel shape. If it gets stranded against a wall, it can use the sword to push itself away.
Oopss... missed that rule... hmmm....
Ill take out dante and baldur and put in....
T.R.A.C.I.E and bodyhammer (s1)
With two finallists how can I lose? lol
If there is a spot left, please save it for me!
To be fair, TRACIE is probably the best S1 robot to use if you ignore the fiact it has a 46kg weight disadvantage. :proud:
LOL, Mark has a 4-wheel drive thwackbot!!
I built 1 before in a video game. It will work, just not very well.
It has more power then a 2 wheel Thwackbot, but turns a bit slower.
(Message edited by corsair_lightning on May 18, 2008)
... no it wont have more power...
the power of a twackbot lies in the combination of speed and mass, slower twackbots are always less powerful
Well, I am right in saying:
I built 1 before in a video game. It will work, just not very well.
Yes, and video games are not usually representative of real world physics...the only way it will work is if:
1) you have the four wheels arranged parallel to the edges of a square. This means you an spin around really fast, but translational movement is going to be very difficult.
2) you have car type steering. This means you can move in a wide arc and get some velocity out of whatevers on the end of the pole, albeit not as effective as a true thwackbot.
Trying to do a four wheel drive skid steer thwackbot is stupid. The friction from the wheels will wreck your spinning speed, and therefore your power, and your battery life will be shorter than the avarage career of Big Brother housemates. Just because you did it in a video game does not mean it will work in real life.
wth, come on guys, Im growing to like the method of ignoring Mark, and wth, a 4wd twackbot will work, but it just wont win a fight for what its worth, Id rather see Mark go out in round 1 than having this entire discussion again
