quote:
Kane, am I right in thinking heating the gas bottle is not allowed in combat? I saw this about heating the ram, and presume the same applies.Absolutely, actively heating the co2 system is strictly prohibited. But in robotwars plenty of roboteers accidentaly drove their robot up on the flamepit for instance. :lame:
We usually calculate our forces in the ram on 750 psi, because we take the pressure drop into account. Most of the time, the first hit/flip is the strongest, from then on everything gets colder and the pressure drops. taking your time between flips is therefore always a good idea.

No problem! With all entries in, here is the Round 1 draw!
Gabriel II vs. Requiem
Liar 2 vs. Nitro-Gene 4.0
Cyrillium 2 vs. Infusion
E Clawdius Unum vs. Aftershock
Tactics and preditions anyone? :)
-
AJWars: Another Era
Gabriel II vs. Requiem: I believe that the sloped sides of Gabriel II are going to be hell for that drum weapon. Joey to progress.
Liar 2 vs. Nitro-Gene 4.0: Im actually quite glad at this draw, becuase it is remarkably like Tornado vs. Wheely Big Cheese in RW4. My plan is to attack the wheels, lifting them off the ground so I can flip him OOTA.
Cyrillium 2 vs. Infusion: Is this even a match - Infusion to destroy Cyrillium.
E Clawdius Unum vs. Aftershock: Aftershock is quite a hard shape to fight, but Clawdius is quite a hard robot to beat...Ill go for Kody.
-
AJWars: Another Era
GABRIEL II vs. Requiem
I actually think I could be okay here - while the HDPE will probably be ripped away if he gets his drum in, I intend on staying away from the drum, and even if he does get a hit in the Hardox and titanium underneath the HDPE will stay where it is. Ill aim to get around and wedge under the sides or back, or get him in a side-by-side waltz which will scoop him onto the front anyway due to Gabriels shape, go to the wall once I have him on the flipper, and try for the OOTA. One more thing - stay well away from the pit if it is opened, and likewise for the dropout zone.
Liar 2 vs. Nitro-Gene 4.0
Nitro-Gene probably has the better chance of winning this because Liar will have to line up its attack more carefully, but it could go either way.
Cyrillium 2 vs. Infusion
Infusion FTW.
E Clawdius Unum vs. Aftershock
Ill go with Clawdius here, it has the control to make Aftershock throw itself in the pit or assist it in doing so.
Good luck Dan :)

AJWars: Another Era
CYRILIUM 2 vs Infusion
Oh great! After seeing Cyriliums performance against Liar 2, I am seriously scared. My skirts should prevent him from getting under me, and Ill attempt to flip him OOTA. If that doesnt work, Ill either flip him into the pit, or keep flipping him and hope he dies. If that doesnt work, Ill try to run around the arena.
Aaron, please take it easy on me.
AJ, if Robot Wars restarts some day, I hope they use the AJWars Pyramid of Pain as the design.

AJWars: Another Era
My Predictions:
Gabriel II v Requiem
Gabriels shape is too hard for the drum to damage me thinks.Joey to win without too much trouble.
Liar 2 v Nitro-Gene 4.0
Itll be close, perhaps Liar can throw Paul OOTA, if not Nitro-Gene to win by a JD.
Cyrilium 2 v Infusion
E Clawdius Unum v Aftershock
mmmmmmmm...If Kody can get the drum into play hell have it won, but Clawdius could pit it.
-
AJWars: Another Era
I was hoping for Clawdius, actually. :proud:
Gabriel II v Requiem
Umm...Gabriel.
Liar 2 v Nitro-Gene 4.0
I think Nitro-Gene can pull a WBC vs. Chaos 2 here and flip it around.
Cyrilium 2 v Infusion
LMAO!!! Mark to run off screaming. :proud:
E Clawdius Unum v Aftershock
The one opponent, other than Cyrilium 2, that I was hoping for. Hes 40 cm high (claw included methinks), but so am I. Hell have a VERY hard time trying to get that claw into play, in which I can just batter him around until he dies.
If Clawdius claw is higher than 40cm, please correct me.
-
AJWars: Another Era
Requiem to damage Gabriel 2 into winning the JD
If Liar 2 can get Nitro-Gene onto its back just the once, then keep on top of Pauls machine to stop it self-righting it can get the OOTA. Otherwise it will be Paul moving on to the semis.
Cyrilium to exit the arena in a bin bag
Aftershock is an odd shape and so will prove hard for Clawdius to get anything from, so Kody for the KO.
But the question is will Andy finish a tournament for the first time in ages?

Gabriel II vs. Requiem
Gabriel II is a triangular wedge shaped robot. Two C40-300 Magmotors drive the robot to a top speed of 20mph. The armour is comprised of 5mm Titanium and 7mm HDPE with 3mm Aluminium on the base. Its weaponry comes in the form of a rare front hinged flipper operating at 750psi.
Requiem is an invertible box, driven by two Sinclair C5 motors. It has a top speed of 18mph and is armoured in a 5mm Ti/V alloy. The bite comes from a 20kg spinning drum, which can shift gears during a match due to its chainsaw motors. At peak it can provide an astonishing 12000rpm top speed and dish out 243kJ of energy.

Both robots move away tentatively, with Requiem€™s spinning drum already beginning to rev up to speed. Gabriel II makes the first move and darts across the arena floor, swerving towards the side of Requiem. Dan turns his robot towards Gabriel II, but the nippy wedge shaped robot drives in and under Requiem, failing to get a flip in. Joey tries again and turns Gabriel II on the spot, again driving under Requiem and this time gets a flip in! The drumbot is rolled nicely onto its back. But this doesn€™t bother Dan too much, who turns his invertible machine round and makes contact with the side of Gabriel II! The drum flicks Gabriel II up a little but doesn€™t seem to have caused much damage. Requiem backs off and comes in for another attack, slamming the drum into the side of Gabriel II. The drum slows to a standstill and again doesn€™t appear to have caused much harm. Gabriel II drives away, and lines itself up for another rush. Dan also lines up Requiem and it looks like they are preparing for a head to head collision! Both robots launch themselves towards each other, but Gabriel turns away and dodges right at the last moment. Requiem turns sharply and makes a run towards Gabriel II who is on the turn. The drum makes a huge impact on the side of the wedge, taking a big chunk out of the 7mm HDPE armouring!
However Joey isn€™t fazed by this and takes his chance to attack while Requiem€™s drum is spinning slowly. Gabriel II slides the wedge under the side of Requiem and begins to push€¦ but the shape of Gabriel II isn€™t helping matters and it resorts to firing the flipper and shoving Requiem away. Gabriel II quickly follows up with another drive under the side of Requiem and flips it again. This time Requiem is launched vertically in the air and thuds back down on top of Gabriel II. Gabriel II now has a drive and has Requiem positioned nicely on top of the wedge and flips! Requiem flies forwards and is stacked up on the side of the arena wall! Dan looks concerned as he tries to rock Requiem off the side of the wall, while Joey lines up Gabriel II for one last flip! Gabriel II drives in and knocks Requiem down off the wall but onto the flipper again. The flipper fires but does nothing but free Requiem and Dan promptly gets Requiem back to the centre of the arena to safety. The drum is still rolling and is now spinning at a frightening speed as Gabriel II moves slowly towards it. Gabriel II suddenly has a burst of pace and flies in towards Requiem, who dodges out of the way at the last moment. Requiem then turns and attacks the back panel of Gabriel II! The impact causes Gabriel to perform a 180-degree summersault onto its back. Joey quickly operates the flipper, but Gabriel II self rights right back on top of Requiem€™s drum!
The sparks fly as the drum comes in contact with the Aluminium baseplate! Then Requiem comes in for a third successive hit, knocking Gabriel II away. Joey knows his robot is on the ropes and Gabriel II shoots towards the top of the arena and hits the pit release. The siren sounds and the pit begins to descend as Requiem comes in and forces the drum into Gabriel II once again, but causes minimal damage. Requiem backs off and comes back in for another attack, but this time it rides straight up the wedge of Gabriel II! Joey steps on the pedal and starts to push Requiem towards the nearest arena wall and fires the flipper! Requiem is sent rolling away but lives to fight another day. That is until Gabriel II follows its flip up by driving at full 20mph and smacks into Requiem like a possessed dodgem car! Requiem begins to creep away but Gabriel II comes in with another drive, sliding under Requiem and throwing it over with the flipper. Suddenly the flipper bot seems to be building some momentum.
Gabriel II has another ram, this time slowly edging Requiem up the wedge and it starts to push the drum bot slowly across the arena€¦ but Requiem rolls off and quickly takes the opportunity to slam the drum into the side of Gabriel II, causing Requiem to flick itself into the air. Joey responds very quickly and positions Gabriel€™s wedge right under Requiem and moves it forwards slightly, firing the flipper! This perfectly stacks Requiem upright against the arena wall, and this time backs off to leave Requiem stranded. Dan is spinning the drum and the wheels to try and get free, but its just not happening! Oh! But suddenly the wall starts to descend! Requiem is stacked up against the pushout zone wall! The wall falls down lower and lower€¦ and Requiem is free! Dan quickly reverses Requiem out and Gabriel II comes rushing back in!
Just when it looked as though Requiem was about to be counted out, the arena has given Dan a lifeline, and the match continues! Gabriel II gives Requiem a nudge, and the drum bot speeds away, turns around and comes back in on the attack. The drum makes contact and the sparks fly, and Gabriel II is left with a huge dent in the side! Both robots have been repelled away from each other, but quickly line up for another charge, a Gabriel II gets under Requiem and fires the flipper€¦ and Requiem is left teetering on the edge of the dropout zone! Dan backs his robot away, but Gabriel II comes in again, colliding wedge to drum! Sparks fly again at the two robots meet head to head! Requiem comes in with the drum again and flicks Gabriel II upwards€¦ and now its Gabriel€™s turn to be on the edge of oblivion! Requiem sees its opportunity and drives in for the final push, but Gabriel dodges! Requiem is left hanging on again, with two wheels off the edge! We are into the last 10 seconds! But Gabriel turns sharply and slams into Requiem knocking it out of the arena!
CEASE!
Requiem wasn€™t able to hold on for the last few seconds, and Gabriel II advances to Round 2!

Liar 2 vs. Nitro-Gene 4.0
Liar 2 is a Wheely Big Cheese style axlebot flipper. Its two large wheels are driven by LEM130 motors giving a top speed of 22mph. The armouring consists of 6mm Hardox wheels, 5mm Hardox for the main body and variable amounts of Hardox on the flipper between 4mm and 7mm. The flipper is powered by 1000psi Nitrogen and works both ways up. Either side of the wedge are two large spikes to slam into opponents by spinning.
Nitro-Gene 4.0 is another powerful flipper. It is box wedge in shape and has tapered sides and rear to protect against spinners. It is also driven by two LEM130 motors and similarly has a top speed of 22mph. It also has 5mm Hardox for the main body and 6mm Hardox for the flipper. And guess what? It also has a 1000psi Nitrogen powered flipper.

Both robots head off straight towards each other and meet head to head in the middle of the arena. Nitro-Gene uses its extra traction to get under the wedge and get its flipper under Liar 2, and throws it high into the air! Liar 2 bumps down upside down, as Paul drives Nitro-Gene in for another attack, catching Liar 2 side on and flips it again. Liar 2 again tumbles through the air and them comes back down to Earth with a bang. Nitro-Gene comes in for yet another attack but this time drives right up onto the wedge of Liar 2. It€™s Martijn€™s turn to fire the flipper and Nitro Gene gets thrown several feet across the arena! Coming down right side up, Nitro-Gene quickly gets back in on the attack and gets under the side of Liar 2, and this time decides to push it towards the arena wall, and flips!
Liar 2 is launched upwards, hits the polycarbonate screening and bounces back down into the arena! Nitro-Gene is first to react and slides back under Liar 2 and throws it back into the centre of the arena. Paul drives Nitro-Gene back in for another attack, but again rides up the wedge of Liar 2 and Martijn flips again! Nitro-Gene thumps down onto its back, but the flipper is quickly operated and Nitro-Gene stylishly does a 540-degree flip and lands back on its wheels. Liar 2 drives in to meet it but the skirting prevents the Dutch robot from getting under. Paul moves Nitro-Gene side by side with Liar 2 and attempts a flip but misses the side of Liar 2 and flips itself over! Nitro-Gene again performs a nice flip back to its wheels, but Liar 2 is waiting and slides under Nitro-Gene€™s side for a flip! Nitro-Gene is thrown backwards and lands down dangerously close to the arena wall.
Liar 2 quickly advances and gets under before Nitro-Gene can self-right and flips again! This time it is Nitro-Gene who bounces off the screens and back into the arena upside down. Paul fires Nitro-Gene€™s flipper to self-right but it fails to make it back to its wheels! The flipper is fired again and Nitro-Gene jumps back over with a distinctly less impressive flip. Liar zooms into the action and rides straight up the front wedge of Nitro-Gene, who immediately responds with a flip, throwing Liar 2 over. Nitro-Gene comes in on the charge but Martijn turns Liar 2 to face it right at the last moment€¦ and Liar flips! Nitro Gene gets flung high overhead and lands down outside the arena.
CEASE!
Nitro-Gene 4.0 is left out of the arena and Liar 2 progresses!

Acuse me of being annoyed at that fight - which is a fantastic battle AJ, very brilliant - but Ive been to live events and one thing that robot dont do when they hit the Plexiglass protecting the audience is fall back into the ring - they slide down it and the robot still in the ring wins by an OOTA! And you wrote this in TWICE! My turn came before Liars, so that means I should have won. But I havent
Sorry AJ - I know its a bit mean of me to rant about me losing, but its not that. Its the EXTREME inaccuracy that cost me the win. The loss, Im fine with, but not that inaccuracy.
Can I ask for a rematch, or is that being selfish?
(Message edited by paulc on April 09, 2008)

AJWars: Another Era
In my defence Paul, the AJWars arena is very different to those at live events. The surrounding frame protecting the audience is pyrimidal in shape and specifically designed to limit OOTAs as much. Perhaps my poor Paint skills dont show this. The OOTA attempts which hit the frame occured above the arena and the robots fell back down within the arena walls. Apologies if it was not as clear as I thought it was. If you truely beleive the fight was inaccurate, and Martijn agrees, I guess a rematch is possible. However, Im more inclined to beleive it is an inaccurate understanding of the arena rather than an inaccurate reflection of reality on my behalf.
-
AJWars: Another Era
mkay, if the arena indeed is a pyramid, the walls are aimed inwards a bit, which means theyre closer to the bots, wich means there more likely to be hit by a thrown bot
whats your opinion about it now Paul?
-
AJWars: Another Era
Well, when I saw the drawing the arena, the scale between the walls and the pyramid around shows that the walls of the pyramid are much too high to deflect another robot. So maybe it is the drawing of the arena thats the problem, but that only makes me less happy about the result.
But if you dont wish to do a rematch, its fine by me.
-
AJWars: Another Era
Even if I lose, having my bot in one of these well written battles is worth it.
-
AJWars: Another Era
Well if Liar 2 was too far from the wall, then I can clearly see an OOTA failing, but if its right near the wall, it can also happen just as the bot passes over the wall because the screen is too near. Id agree if Liar 2 went too far horizontally, but I dont think that happened.
What I saw happen is that Liar went vertically more than horizontally, passed the wall and immediately hit the screen, and was deflected back into the arena on an angle. AJ can correct me if Im TOTALLY off the mark, though. :proud:

I hate to add to more vodka to the punch there, but Ive seen quite a few bots bounce of the polycarb walls reflect towards the center of the arena again, this includes some of my own bots :proud: Id just take it on the chin Paul ;-) It could have been worse, you could lose because your ring spinner supposedly didnt have teeth :proud:

I am presuming that the last fight has been cleared up and no re-write is necessary. So here is Battle 3!
Cyrillium 2 vs. Infusion
Cyrillium 2 is a box-wedged shaped robot with side skirting. It is driven by two S28-400 Magmotors giving speeds of 16mph. However, this robot does not run on wheels, but tank tracks. It€™s armoured in 5mm Titanium and has a 750psi pneumatic flipper at the front.
Infusion is a variant of the classic ring spinner, with a front ramming wedge. Drive is provided by two S28-400 Magmotors. At the rear is a 28kg spinning ring powered by two D-Pack motors, spinning at 2500rpm. The front wedge is 6mm Hardox and the top and bottom 4mm Hardox. This robot uses an innovative system, which allows energy to be passed from the spinning rim to the drive.

Cyrillium 2 is first away, flying straight across the arena to bump head to head with Infusion. Mark backs his robot up and comes in for another drive, riding up on top of Infusion€™s front wedge. Infusion jolts forward to shift Cyrillium 2 away and sharply turns, driving the spinning rim right into the side of Cyrillium 2! Sparks fly and both robots spin away from each other. But surprisingly little damage seems to have been caused. Cyrillium 2 comes back on the attack, this time getting to the side of Infusion€¦ and flips it! Infusion is rolled onto its back, and Cyrillium 2 comes back in for another attack! Infusion is rolled back right way up. Aaron quickly gets Infusion away to the middle of the arena. Cyrillium 2 quickly chases and goes to head to head with Infusion again. Infusion operates its kinetic boost and slides it 6mm Hardox wedge under the front of Cyrillium 2. Infusion then races across the arena floor and slams Cyrillium 2 hard into the arena wall! Cyrillium 2 is again quick to respond and slides the flipper under Infusion and flips! Infusion is lifted up and nearly thrown out of the arena! Cyrillium 2 has another attack and attempts a flip but Infusion quickly moves out of the way. Infusion then drives in at full 25mph and smashes Cyrillium 2 right into the arena wall for the second time.
Cyrillium 2 backs away and lines itself up for another attack on Infusion. But Infusion turns away and comes in at the side of Cyrillium 2 and hits it with the rim! The sparks spray out as the rim buckles the side skirt almost off its hinges! Before Cyrillium can even get away Infusion attacks again, this time wiping the skirt clean away from the body! Cyrillium 2 starts to hobble away but Infusion this time comes in with the wedge and bashes into it. Infusion backs off and goes for another ram, but rides up the front wedge of Cyrillium 2! Mark quickly takes his chance to get a flip in, and throws Infusion over! Cyrillium has a drive at Infusion but runs straight into the spinning rim! Cyrillium 2 spins away, with a nice gash in the front wedge. Infusion takes its time to spin up and then hurtles into Cyrillium 2, and shears the whole side panel off!! Mark shows concern and quickly reverses away into the pit release target! The pit slowly gets deeper and deeper, as Infusion comes in for another attack, effortlessly removing the remaining side skirt! However Cyrillium 2 continues to battle on and moves away, but is quickly cut off by Infusion who again slams its spinning rim into the side of Cyrillium 2, severely warping the remaining side panel.
Mark promptly runs towards the other end of the arena, looking for somewhere to hide. But Infusion follows it quickly and again uses the kinetic boost and wedge to drive Cyrillium 2 into the arena wall at pace. Cyrillium 2 randomly fires its flipper, looking to try and escape. Infusion backs up and starts spinning up again, as Cyrillium 2 creeps away from the arena wall. Infusion helps it away by attacking again, this time ripping away at the remains of the damaged side plate causing it to spin away. Cyrillium 2 is smoking slightly, but still just about moving, even if it is in circles. Infusion spins up again, ready to pick out its next attack. Aaron drives Infusion in towards the front of Cyrillium 2, and Mark fires the flipper to try and protect itself. But all it does it leave Cyrillium open for another attack, and Infusion drives in, putting another slice in the front. Cyrillium 2 now seems to be stationary, but for one last fire of the flipper. Infusion lines itself up and now launches itself into the exposed innards of Cyrillium 2! A gush of CO2 escapes out of the other side, and it€™s game over for Cyrillium 2. Infusion spins in the middle of the arena, as Cyrillium 2 is left a battered heap of metal.
CEASE!
The winner, by knockout, is Infusion!

AJWars: Another Era
Just so you know, Cyrilium 2 is hard to beat, so technically, I shouldnt have suffered that damage.
I wouldnt have let him get to my sides, cause I have a 0mm turning circle.
I also would have gotten under him before his powerful disc wouldve hit me.
Regardless, if theres a rematch, I know that you will write the fight very well.
-
AJWars: Another Era
Lets not forget Aaron did not give tactics.
-
AJWars: Another Era
...A 0mm turning circle is nothing special, most robots have it so it usually comes down to speed and/or whos the better driver. Also, what armours made of is usually irrelevant if its not attached well...

Yes, you should. Dont make your robot out of 5mm Titanium expecting it to be fine! Use Hardox at 4mm - that works quite nicely.
Quote:

That doesnt matter! Nearly ALL robots have 0 turning cirlces, and they get caught from the sides! If all robots with 0 turning circles didnt get caught side-on, the fan-fiction would become EXTREMELY boring, and it would be soul-destroying for me and other writers to write things like They both charged into each others fronts for about at least 95 battles.
And another thing - WHY would there be a rematch - because you LOST?!!? I had a reason for asking for a rematch - if you had a rematch every time you lost, wed be stuck in a time-loop from here till Christmas...2010.
Take the losses, take your robot, develop its weaknesses until they become the robots strengths, and in addition - TRY TO GAIN SOME RESPECT!
