I will say im not selling a Robot Wars rehash its an all new format, its what i wanted to see out of robot wars with some great ideas from previous shows slipped in to beef up the profile, also gives the audience something they recognise.
Im also bringing in some elements of the best live robot events ive been too, all of them have been yours jonno
okie cokie :)
Okay, so this is the base of what I have so far...
Im going to add a standard flipper, pit, and possibly try to modify the arena hammer thats there at the moment. Other ideas welcome too.
This is a concept style render, so I have a 2d style shading on it. (And yes, more than six hours and this is all I came up with for now, 3ds max has shutdown 4 times for no reason LOL)
Floor pieces are 5 cm thick, each barrier support is 10 cm thick. This is to scale.

I think you may have the potential 2009 RR arena on the way :)
Looks cool.
It will need the 5mm x 250 high kick plate on it to reach the safety standards for the FRA :)
And need to be 400 mm off the ground to fit the pit into it. :)
John
Sure thing, I did elevate it, but I forgot to drop the floor or lift the arena (underneath you can see the supports, but the run INTO the floor becuase I didnt lift it)
Thanks!
looking nice. It might need a gate on it. to get the bots in.
have a back screen for us to stand high like at robot wars :)
there speaks someone who never stood in one, they were awfull, the curved thing made the arena look wierd it made me go dizzy just to stand up there
i did stand in one :o the cheek :o lol
i beat t-bone remember
pssh lets face it anyone could beat t-bone worthless piece of pipe :P
ye i know :P lol
shud have abit of a back wall on the next arena make it look bit ore professional :)
with pictures of all the robots etc like the background on the on demand bit - ok maybe not - but a cool background :P
In my opinion, sticking two robots in a box, has had its day.
Not necessarily. Thats like saying that sticking two people in a ring and leting them hit each other, or having two people face each other across a net and hit a ball back and forth has had its day. It depends on the people and how good they are at what they do. One problem we had on TV is that most of the good machines and good fights were boring to an audiance that wants to see pieces coming off and machines being smashed up.
But that said, I look forward to building a feather that can climb the steps in the new improved RR arena.
Oi ya cheeky gits!!!
At least it didnt get stuck on its back flapping like a lady bird with its legs in the air !!
Id love to watch the fight again but its not on you tube.
I didnt quite mean what i said in the way maybe it was interprated... i just meant that i think its time to add a bit of a change, make people use a bit of tactics.
The arena flipper and pit are good.... but lets think of something new and innovative.
John
well tbh if BBC or the main channels dont want it then its had its day
but when we see the results of rebel robots and battlebots in america then the likes of sky one will see how much it has improved
as every robot nowadays is reliable and 5 years ago or whenever it ended everyone had all sorts or problems
i prefer the one on one fighting but however we get it on tv i will compete
Kill Saws!!!!
Mr Stu
a spinning round circle bit in the middle of arena to knock robots out of a straight line
DROP ZONE!
what about if under the arena the was a moving bit with the flipper and pit on so u never knew were the pit and flipper were when fighting
and lasers and gun turretts and and ................................ ill get me coat
Electrodes wired to the drivers delicate areas. The looser gets zapped.
Looks like BattleBots are having similar ideas (e.g. half inch thick plates), to hamper wedgers

ha ha, the copy cats... LOL
See were thinking the same !!! Think outside of the box !!!
John
phillip i like that idea.
For whiteboard fights chuck in some toys for the robots to get caught up in or to use as weapons.
Railway sleeper,
large steel ball,
Steel beam,
Inflatable Margaret Thatcher!!
that sort of thing. :proud:
Right, so I have made the barriers to speck (approx) as in, they are no SMALLER than the minimum.
Ill need some pit dimensions please...
Alright, so to make the gate decent I had to consider its strength, pivot and angle it stands at. I took advantage of the Pole slots I made earlier, so the gate is easy to use and it is strong enough to withstand bots smashing against it. I built the supporting blocks in threes so that the weight is evenly distributed but doesnt use too much metal/material to keep cost down, and also detracts from the weight. On the bottom row of blocks there are holes, this is where the bolts go through the gate (they can be seen when the gate is open).
The top pole conceptually would be locked with a bolt and a cross bolt on the other side (perpendicular to the top pole so it goes through the support on the other side)
I know Im fussing a lot about the gate, but I had to consider safety aspects while keeping it neat with the arena. What think?
An idea I had would be to use the fact that there are three level poles so that TWO different heights can be set for the barriers from the bottom to middle and bottom to top missing the middle. Ideally, the top ones can be left out for smaller weight category contests, increasing the flexibility of the arena...
BTW: The other details arent visible in this film because I used an older arena so that it keeps my render times down. And dont mind the white guy that is NOT inflatable Thatcher, that is measure man.

Weve had the same idea David, Ive been making that very system for the Rebel Robots Arena today its a great idea
David,
Very similar to our gate. It is pivoted from the bottom, and to locking a bar is placed along the back of the door with two hooks on each side of the gap. The bar then sits in these hooks and along the back of the door, with locking pins to stop it from coming lose.
Not realy got any good photos, the best one i can find is at http://www.robotslive.co.uk/door.jpgwww.robotslive.co.uk/door.jpg
(alans at the workshop atm so ill ask him to take one).
Dave

That is quality David
nice video david... i do like the man though :)
you would u gay boy :wink:
Dimensions for the base of the arena...

I inputted what I thought would be the right dimensions for the gate fittings. Obviously, Im not a material engineer so...
*COUGH**EPIC MEGA TOPIC NECRO**COUGH*

Okay thats as far as I can finish it due to my software running out of licence. I was perhaps thinking the new hammer could have interchangeable heads on it, say axe/hammer/claw, all powered pneumatically.
It looks great. What kind of gaps are on that floor? What is just a small gap for a heavy is a canyon for a featherweight.
(Message edited by leorcc on August 04, 2008)
Ohh, its just a texture, dont worry about it. I just wanted the floor to stand ouit a bit. the floor would actually be made of 12 large panels (or is it 16)? O.o. Ill find out...
Thanks by the way!
