temp site is up
Partial Copy & Paste of post on RFL.
BattleBots has decided to move the event to April, after Easter
Thats a shame, did the original poster give any specific reason for the delay?
Not really.
http://forums.delphiforums.com/THERFL/messages?msg=5057.518http://forums.delphiforums.com/THERF...s?msg=5057.518
i got an email the other day sayin
Were postponing until April 2009
Were working out the TV deal arrangements, hence the lack of info.
so it must be because of the tv arangements
event will be in April. Were working on a registration system that should go live on the site around the beginning of the 2009
The responce from a guy called Greg Munson.
Suren
Oh well. Its always better to prolong an event to work out all the bells and whistles and other stuff than have a hasty and rather mundane show. :)
The Battlebot Rule set is out.
http://www.battlebots.com/downloads/BB_Building_Rules_Pro_College.pdfhttp://www.battlebots.com/downloads/...ro_College.pdf
NOTE THE PNEUMATIC RULES.
Custom-made or custom-modified pneumatic components may be used in a BattleBots pneumatic system.
The Entrant is required to supply data sheets and/or computations and/or certified hydrotesting results to prove that the custom component is properly designed and built to have a burst pressure that is 300% of the maximum pressure that the component will be subjected to during operation.
Custom-made pressure storage tanks are specifically not allowed, as specified in €œ7.3.1 STORAGE TANK RATINGS€Â.
Also note that the Battlebots Tech Checker has a reputation for being very very strict.
Any H.P. pneumatic Bots intending to go should perhaps try for pre-approval of their system.

anyone planning on going ?
hopefully i will be there with or without a robot - would like to go see the event
Were planning on taking beta over.
Might take the new bot over... if it works!
I would love to see Beta work. That hammer would squash a few yanks. Teach them to make too many flat thwackbots
Those considering going over will also need to meet the following requirements ...I dont believe any of our bots currently meet these specs
4.2.3 ACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION CONDITIONS
To minimize risk to personnel, the Activation and Deactivation sequences
+1>cannot require:
a. More than one person to perform each sequence.
b. A person to place any body part in the path of any weapon system or any other powered part
of a BattleBot that can cause injury.
c. A person to place any body part inside the external frame or shell of a BattleBot.
d. A person or a BattleBot to balance or be balanced in any unstable position.
e. The installation or removal of any panels, covers or fasteners from a BattleBot, other than the
Safety Covers and Restraints.
4.2.4 ACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION TOOLS
Special tools may be used for Activation and Deactivation subject to the following:
a. A maximum of two tools or devices can be used for the Activation and Deactivation.
b. Any tool is required to have an identical backup spare.
sign ups r meant to be opening next week with new sponsorship rules being sent out
Big Nipper would pass those specs, cant think of many more.
Storm meets the specs.
I think Storm requires the removal of the fastener that secures the hatch on the rear that covers the link... or has it changed?
THz might pass... depends exactly how you interpret inside the external frame - it has an open top, so inside/outside is not clear cut.
beta will be a similar arrangement.
It seems that the rules have been written round the normal way of doing it in the US - inserting an allen key or similar through a hole in the armour to turn an internal switch.
I had an email from Ed indicating that StormII complies with the Battlebots Rules.

I hope this link works. The switch in the picture is probably the type of thing they use.
To modify a robot in the UK with this switch (with 2 keys) instead of a removable link would not be too hard for most robots. :)
That is the type we used on KHz - as used on many race/rally cars. You would probably still need a hatch to protect it.
I think the more common type on US bots is this one:

Our Australian freinds also use that, apparently they dont like links :P (or other people disarming their robots (Ie arena marshals))
Thanks John
RoboGames dates are confirmed, for those who want to come to an event that actually will happen...
Fri-Sun, Jun 12-14, 2009

Ian spoke to Grey yesturday and he confirmed battlebots is going ahead and sign up will be open soon.
Battlebots is ready to go (almost), w00t
James, if i cant get beast over get me in your team :P ill even pay for all our tickets! lol
does your sister need some 206 wheels, give me dad a ring he said we got some spare, well got 3 i buckled 1 on me new car so ad to rob 1 out them lot. but you can only have them if u get ian to get me in is team ;)
with my off the scene plans he would love me forever £££
lol john
Can i ask the moderator to remove David calkins post please. for the obvious reasons thank you.
thanks james just tell me when uv sorted it ;)
or any1 else is going ill be a valuable member - my ideas + ur robot = £££
The message from David is a bit terse but the Battlebots rumours circulate every year(5 at least)
April is a bit close to get machines built and ready as the build rules have been written by a lawyer and not an engineer
This would suggest that it is wishfull thinking again maybe.
Why the Battlebots folk do not use the RFL ruleset which is very similar to our own European build rules defies logic.
Approx 200 machines conform to either ruleset so why create another.
On a personal view as a hydraulic machine user the 3000 psi(207 bar)pressure limit is a joke when others use up to date materials such as hardox etc.
I might have it wrong but certificates or engineering calculations are required for non standard components
Does a home made buffer tank require a cert at 1.5 times the 70 bar maximum gas pressure?or do you bamboozle the lawyer with your own stress calculations.
The Entrant is required to supply data sheets and/or computations and/or certified hydrotesting results to prove that the custom component is properly designed and built to have a burst pressure that is 300% of the maximum pressure that the component will be subjected to during operation
Also note that ANY physical modification to a std pneumatic or hydraulic part may put it into the custom component bracket.

Ian has spoke to greg, its going ahead with sign ups opening soon. no need for an eo to post things like that on other eo threads.
Battlebots do of course have competent technical personal, not lawyers, that examine competitors applications, if required.
The Battlebot contract / lawyers bit is here...http://www.battlebots.com/downloads/forms/BB-Individual-Owner-Agreement-09.pdfhttp://www.battlebots.com/downloads/...reement-09.pdf
For anyone who does not have corporate lawyers at their disposal it is a case of caveat emptor ....or let the buyer beware.
Just to put the exclusive rights stuff into context...
Battlebots in the past have developed toy ranges and video games based on various robots. Obviously if they go to a lot of expense developing a toy of a robot, they dont want to find out later that there is another toy of the same robot competing against it in the shops. Hence the exclusive bit.
We were fortunate enough to get a toy deal with KillerHurtz in the States and, from what I have heard, it was more lucrative than the toy deals for even the most popular robots here in the UK.
Without that toy deal, I would not have been able to build beta. So I am very happy to sign an exclusive rights deal with Battlebots.
Is anyone from the UK going over we can cheer for? :)
If it goes ahead, Warhead and Beta are due to go.
