Are you really trying to choose whether horizontal or vertical is better? There´s so many different designs that it´s imbossible to choose the best. I think you can make any spinner type effective if you try enought and just build it well.
And btw discs are soo ´03. Asymmetrical drums, egg beaters and bars are today. ;) Those also have the best possibility to win in weapon to weapon hits.

FBS are good but a nightmare to design and implement effectively. Somewhat tempted to try building one

Just get your rowboat and and come to holland.
Ive got a better idea - Ill just attach some buoyancy equipment to Drumroll and spin the drum, using it like a paddle :)
Gotta say that I like the sound of the drum from what Jamie said. But thanks for advice and stuff.
Gary (or anyone that knows), can I just ask how to make a FBS (if you know) because it sounds quite intruiging.

My first one for competition but not first one for fun.
Im not sure i would advise a FBS. They are difficult to design and a nightmare to keep running.
