perhaps a charge should be considered going forward? if it is having a financial impact on organsiers, as you will only survive so long.
It has been discussed, and its something that i strongly agree on, only really for main championships though. Roboteers dont seem to be put off by a small entry fee when Ive asked, and those fees would be put towards something like prize money.
The other problem is roboteers signing up for major events with robots that arent built, or not likely to be comming - people get turned away and the others sometimes wont turn up. An entry fee would secure you a place and make you think twice if your robot is going to be ready.
there is 1 thing clear tho is that there is no entry fees for this uk champs and i personally think that this thread should be kept on topic about the uk champs. and if you want to post anything negative about me and my views then post in team bud thread not here.
Were not just talking about the Heavyweight UK champs shane...
Its not moaning - I know exactky what jonno is talking about and I back it 100%, remember we also lost ALOT of money at our European champs last year, and its that sort of thing that people seem to forget.
i think we should pay to enter competitions and then that money would then be put towards prize money - as i think this is sometimes a reason the EOs can lose money as it is alot of money - but when u win it its hard to turn away imo
or us roboteers could organise that ourselves if everyone was up for it
we also get our food free at events and theres always alot of it which saves id say about £5-10 each a day depending where u get food from as at venues its normally expensive - food ALWAYS tastes nice aswel - i love it

i think an axe will win this yrs uk championship
I hope not, that would mean I lost.
i thought obsidian was an axe :P
It is, but we are not entering that one, unless its converted/updated by that time. We have the luxury of choosing what robot to take.
i would rather see the money go towards a hw spinner arena or arena upgrades instead of more prize money.
leo- hows mantis? any work started on it yet?

I agree with Adrian on that. But there are more things than money when it concerns making an arena class 2.
Tim mentioned the DRG arena, which is now class 2, but in order to fit on the truck for transport it is quite small for heavies (6m x 6m). We can expand to 6m x 9m but then we need to drive twice. Not to mention it is much more labour intensive to set up and break down. You dont want to do that for a 1 day event.
John
You make some good points I dont think anyone would expect you to loose money on an event. Although I think things like prize money and accomodation are nice to haves rather than necessities.
Does the FRA do anything to try and get funding for the UK Champs or is it purely down to the event organiser? I imagine thigs would be easier if there was a sponsor on board! Failing that I wouldnt be totally against the idea of paying an entrance fee.
Although it may not get said very much but we do appreciate all the work you and the other event organisers put in to the events.

Mantis has had a firm shakedown last weekend to see if it is ready for a demo event coming this weekend.
We discovered a problem with the right motor, so we are going to replace that one with a new one. We also welded some extra bracing on the arm so it should be able to lift more without bending. After the demo we will look at adding armour, especially on top for axes.
Apart from that, the weapon and drive is brilliant so we are not changing anything there aprt from the motor swap.
I think we have it about right at the moment - in the past roboteers expected free accomodation, travel expenses and appearance money - and we got it.
The present EOs cannot afford to do it, maybe that is why numbers have dwindled and only the die-hards are left. I for one would like it to return, but know it just wont happen, until maybe television gets interested again. btw, you only got £100 appearance fee from Mentorn from series5 onwards, and I never got accomodation or petrol money as I lived nearer the venue than the hotel. You had to win the heat final to get any more cash, so you were still out of pocket even if you did well, what with your building costs.
The point I am making is I am quite happy to pay my travelling costs, I get to play safely with my toys, the EOs get an event, if they make some cash then they will do another. If they lose money then they pack it in.
Trev
adrian id love to see a spinner arena but i think it would be a waste of money and the eos wouldnt be able to afford one. if there was enough money in it then there would def be one
we need tv to get an arena of that standard or a loaded fan or a nice sponsor - the air show is a great place to advertise but jonno knows that
its all about april tho and 2009 is going to be an amazing year £££
leo what robot you bringing? a nice mario ram?
why is 2009 going to be amazing
im gonna win the lottery this year and donate all the money to the EO who will make sure its back on TV and i make more cash then i gave in
sounds a good plan dont it :)
our grade 2 feather arena is expencive enough and not far off the weight of the heavy arenas around. i dont think its about cost so much as weight of the entire thing and haveing to set up.
Just think, a heavyweight version of ours (even look at the RFL arena) takes an entire day, sometimes 2 before the event to set-up. that includes teams of people taking shifts so work is constant. To take this arena to an event it takes an articulated lorry, and 2 big forklift trucks to be taken to the venue.
The entire roofing for a full polycarb roof alone would weigh more than most arenas alone.
Then with full combat robots the floor neds replacing alot more often.
Even with featherweights our kickplates need big chunks welding back up, and thanks to hornet new polycarbonate sheets in. This all costs a lot of money to do every event.
The money made from an event isnt worth the effort put into it, which is why its good that all the event organisers are active roboteers so that we all still have the drive to do it :proud:
can we not just all agree with trevor and stop
arguing about it, he has hit the nail right on the head lets all just chill out and enjoy the sport.
Ye, the arguing has stopped, this was 4 months ago!
told you 2009 is going to be a good year :P
didnt notice the date it was to late at night 4 me when I was reading it, I am usually getting my beauty sleep ! haha
who do u all thinks going to win then?
we need to get a convo going!
My moneys on Iron Awe 5 :)
hmm good choice
didnt think of them but now uv said it
think mr terrorhurtz is in for a good chance
i think anyone could win it as were all quality
I think I should win it. :)
But I think its going to be Big Nipper.
no Storm2 will see him off.
It will be THz if the re-build is done in time :) and Skink for the featherweights
dream on you lot envy will win the uk champs and you lot know it. but still keep dreaming there is nothing wrong with that. iron awe being my nemesis it a priority target and will be eliminated via oota in 30 seconds. beast if i draw that will be oota in 5 seconds. :)
Shane All that sun has obviously gone to your head! Dont worry Ill leave you in the arena for a few seconds before sending you flying. :)
At the moment I dont know what upgrades we will have in place for the UK champs hopefully the motor upgrades and maybe even the flipper upgrades as well - time allowing.
i now have a new weapon. its called redbull and it has given envy wings :)
You do not need wings, most of the bots will end up flying out anyway.
P.S. my moneys on either Iron awe 5 or THz (If it is rebuilt in time)
dont count out ripper either. very underestimated robot and will do well. thor too is now realible and has a formiddable hammer. kronic is also a very dangerous robot as is new turbulence. but hey i suppose its on the day that counts. all seriousness my money is on the nipper again.
Ill go with Envy...apparently the driver is a really nice bloke...wouldnt know much about that of course, just going on what Ive heard :)
Whoops, Forgot about Kronic.
St Hammer will hammer them all!
thanks joey its nice people out there think i am a nice bloke. jason is too. you never know we may meet one day. :)
all the wise money will be on storm force lol
depends whos driving if its me then of course it will win lol
