Thats the PCB carrying the second tier of mosfets, that makes a Scorpion XL into an XXL. This is a homegrown version of the XXL, and is as you can see, squeezed in a box with a pull/push microfan combo.

Thanks. Do you find the fan necessary?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: It might not be if the motors are not too power hungry but ours definatly are.
Would you recommend some form of filter on the fan to stop debris?
Yes, we put a fine wire mesh in front of our fans.
Thank you
what kind of flipper are you going for Philip?
I have a Mario ram 70*100mm lying horizontally. The flipper arm pivots 50 mm in front and 100 mm above the ram. The buffer is a 20 oz paintball bottle feeding a Burkert 5404. http://robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=1417http://robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=1417
Australian feathers are 13.6 kg.
you i know mate i saw that at Daniels, you keeping that design or changing??
Sorry, Craig. I didnt pay enough attention to your name. I am keeping the design for a little while and then changing.
I have taken your suggestions on board. I will try to shorten the existing robot and move the drives forward. The Scorpion would go into the position you recommended.
I am also looking at a complete redesign of the robot roughly into one of the shapes you drew. I went through some of my old drawings and found a design that was very similar.
Imagine a 20 oz bottle across the back and drills directly in front of the bottle. Another 20 oz tank would be directly above the drills as a buffer. The ram would be mounted vertically in front with a simple flipper arm.
I hope to build the second frame and keep the existing robot going until I get the new shape complete.
Hmmm, that sounds like Hannibalitos layout. :)
was similar Leo but would proberbly stand a little taller, good luck Philip im in bris til dec 22nd then im off again, more than willing to help u out if u need it
Thank you, Craig. I am unemployed ATM so I probably wont do anything much until I have a job.
Where are you going next?
Does anybody know if these are any good http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mystery-RC-30A-Brushlessmotor-Speed-Controller-ESC_W0QQitemZ220191292118QQihZ012QQcategoryZ123849 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mystery-RC-30A...er-ESC_W0QQite mZ220191292118QQihZ012QQcategoryZ123849QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . I was thinking about using them for my drive (1 per wheel, 2 wheel drive) which I think is going to run at 18v
If you are planning on using brushless motors they may do ok (I havent got any experience with brushless) but I believe you are thinking about using 18v drill motors?
In which case these wouldnt be suitable.
Tim, I assume you are using standard electric DC motors in your robot, in which case these controllers wont work. Brushless motors and brushed motors (your standard DC electric motors) differ from each other and require different methods of controlling them.
So unfortunately, the above option wouldnt work for you
EDIT: As Gary said, he beat me to it :)

If you are planning on using brushless motors for drive i would stay well away. Weve tried it, and spent ALOT of money trying to get it right. In the end it took two years for a company to develop the custom speedcontrollers for us to use that actually appear to work ok. next to each other.
Ok Thanks Guys appreciate your advise. What would be the cheapest speed controllers I could get for now even if they only last a couple of fights and I replace them later, and yes I know that is a false economy
Bit of a tricky one there on 18v. There are a number of cheap options for a 12v system but if your determined to go for 18v then I would recommend going for something proper now.
I have found with a featherweight that generally as the voltage goes up so does the cost of the machine.
You will probably be looking to spend around £80 unless you can get something second hand.
What would be the cheap options for 12v
well i was running two electronize on 24+volts

The cheaper slightly heavier ones:

From the thread that leo started in the for sale section.
sorry to jump on the thread, speaking of brushless how is 360 coming along grant? is it spinning!!
Its ready to spin, Dave is buying some new speedos soon but its costly as 3 have already burned out (hes getting much higher rated ones this time)

are they allowed to call there stupid looking mouse sidewinder ?
Brushless stuff hurts my pockets
John they should be. Microsoft have been using the sidewinder name for years. I think I have a sidewinder force feedback joystick from the late 90s somewhere
