UK championships 2006
FROM THE RR WEBSITE:
UK Championships - 26-28th August
Roaming Robots will be holding the First UK
Championship outside of Robot Wars. Open to everyone,
a fully contained class 2 arena will be unveiled to
provide the setting for the 2006 UK Championship.
The competition will last over the 3 days, leading us to one Champion. With some serious prize money up for grabs, a chance for the Heavy weight spinners to show them why they have in the past have been not allowed to run. Who will take over from where Typhoon left off ?????
Watch this space for more information as
this big event unfolds.

Ok Guys,
Sorry for the lack of responce from me on this subject, currently i am working on this years diary, getting the events planned through the year, then i will be able to concentrate on this.I Have been reading it though.
The above information is the most up to date as yet.
I am working on this event behind the scenes,
however i dont have much to report back as yet.
So far we have the date fixed, Bank Holiday weekend august, and a couple of venues in the pipeline.
I am working on the arena upgrades - Polycarb and new roof structure design.
However, it is likely that this years championships may take a different form, and not only be about fighting.
Weve all talked about whats next, and what should be done to improve things etc etc....
And there are lots of ideas floating around.
Will keep you posted, however feel free to add any comments or suggestions.

Another question to think about....
WHAT IF....I was to bring the UK champs arena out before august, say for example Worcester.
What IF....I was to make all my events full combat?
Who would be willing to fight anyone?
The arena will need testing, the only way to test it, is to try it.

Will there be a battle forfeit button for each roboteer as on our amercan cousins full combat arenas?

I dont think theres anything out there thatll pack more of a punch than 50Kg of Typhoon at the moment, and weve dealt with that particular weakness of Storm II so I dont think wed have an issue with bouncing anyone in the walls for you - well stick the 1/2 Ti on the sides and away we go :)

Heavyweight version of litter spinner :)

litter spinner?
how appropriate :)
-
UK championships 2006
Jonno,
I dont think Full combat all year round would be a good idea. Featherweights are easyer to repair when theyve fought a spinner. To fix a heavyweight in time for the next event a month later is alot more work. Also it will mean the working life of a robot would be cut very short compaired to what it is atm...So people wont be able to attend your events as often as they do atm as they will be to busy repairing from there last encouter with a massive hammer or a supper spinner. One or two Full combat shows a year, i would of thought, is enough.

It is when it flys apart:)

What does atm mean please ?

sadly I have to agree with Dave, I dont mind getting chopped to shreds (again) but Ive not got the time or cash for rebuilds these days...
more importantly for you (RR) what might happen is that you would end up being able to run a morning show, but not have anything but a bunch of duct taped limping shells in the sfternoon...and nothing for day 2...and maybe not enough entrants at all for the next months event?
Or are you oversubribed for events ?
Of course if we are optimistic it might spur us on to greater things.. and put robot combat back in an upward spiral
You could always run a few brave boy fights as a show climax, but its going to be a lot of extra grief putting up a level 2 arena if no-one wants to play tough
-
UK championships 2006
i think the idea of a few full on fights is a good one.
-
UK championships 2006
keep the opinions coming, no suprises really.
Not many people will fight em all the time.
A couple of full on ones a year is enough.
Grudge matches are popular, but they are a lot of extra work for one fight.

I agree, theres no way i would put any of our heavys in full-combat on a regular basis. Alot of roboteers i have spoken to over the last year or so alot have basically said that when there current robot is knackerd they will retire, putting them in with spinners will only shorten the lifespan of most robots and eventually the sport.
The other thing that could happen is whats currently going on with the feathers, theres a couple of big spinners, so eveybody (me included) have built Hardox boxes just to last until the end of the fights, so we could end up with a couple of heavy spinners then, anybody willing to build a new bot would just make hardox boxes, as it would be the sensible thing to do if fighting against destructive machines regulary.
One full combat event a year is enough, and then most people will require either a big title or prize fund to compete. Fighting the likes of Thz and Kan-Opener is bad enough at friendly shows without worrying about how many more LEMs Geoff has put in Scorpion!
-
UK championships 2006
personally id be up for it there arent many full combat robots left none of which really worry me but thats jus my opinion, as for the hardox boxes that are likely to come of it, new Tanto is jus that was always going to do stuff spinners i want something thatll last without me having to do anything to it repairs wise anyway.
i say bring em on u only get better when u get beaten

Alan,
John has so far put 2 LEMs on our disk...there is no room for any more!! :)
We look forward to full combat as you know, but we can see the potential problems with making every event full combat.
Geoff & John,
P.S. Just coz we got 2 Lems it dont make it faster...just nearly unstopable!! :proud:
-
UK championships 2006
does that mean faster at getting it stuck in the arena sidewall Geoff:) ?

UK championships 2006
Wed still love to come to the UK to fight, but would probably only come for a full combat tournament. Combats so much more fun when there are spinners to kill!
If you get a UK Championship together in 2006 well try to make it over with Sewer Snake!

Matt if you come across and my own heavy is running then we are having a battle! :)
Was rather disappointed that we didnt get to in SF

Hi guys,
Well the signs are looking good for the UK Champs. Nothing to report on progress as yet.
There has already been a lot of interest from roboteers, and we are now getting contact from general public wanting to know more info, as they are planning their holidays around it.
There is still life out there !!!
There will be an update when we know more.

Were still on for full combat but will probably retire after weve taken the bin bags home.
Were based in Cornwall so getting to events is a major planning excersize. Now that my driver (Mike) is at Uni in Sheffield its even worse. So I think its time to go out with a bang.

Gary - wed love to meet you in the arena,
and I hope your bot would be in tip top shape for one heck of a good fight!
There are at least a few UK bots we know of that I would love to play with and Im sure there are many more over there that would be great fun to battle with also!
Jonno - who would I contact to get current rules and tech regs for UK combat?
Matt, Wendy & Sewer Snake

Matt,
All Uk events run under the guidance of the FRA, and run to the FRA rules.
They are available from the fighingrobots website as above.
Thanks

Click on a topic in red on the left handside ..... Scroll to the very bottom ........pick
start new thread :)
I believe that the Spektrum with the new failsafe module is acceptable.
