Marien,
There are 8 to 10 middleweights in the UK. Id be delighted to bring mine.
Me too.
20:00 (Central British Empire Time :-)
Yeah! Thats Imperial measures that is.
I do not, seeing as I am a competitor from the UK, want to go through an extra qualification round as suggested by John. Why the hell should any of us wherever we come from?
In an open championship entrant numbers are not limited by country of origin.
Johns comment:
To the roboteers less fortunate than some and may not be able to Travel to this but my feel thy wish to challenge for the title....
What makes you think that only UK roboteers have a monopoly on being less fortunate? Competitors from mainland Europe make the trip over for events held here time and time again. You dont hear them complaining about how much it costs them.
On a lighter note, and to be fair to all, why not hold the European Championships in the geographical centre of Europe. Depending upon whose measurements you use, its either in Poland or Lithuania.

i dont know, but i thought johns surgesstion was a fair one. i know of many people who cant afford to build a robot let alone travel abroad with it.

This IS a suitable place....nuff said
I think the general rumbling and grumbling on this thread highlghts a problem with the way that we bandy names like UK/Euro/World Champs around at present. It seems that a single association or event organiser chooses to arbitrarily declare their event as the definitive Championship.
Surely for an eventor more likely series of events to qualify for a major title it must be more than a single event in one location and should consist of a number of rounds in different locations (and ran by different organisers?) across the whole geographic region the Championship claims to cover?
To anyone who has been quietly sniping at one another I would suggest that a Euro Championship has to consist of at the very least two rounds in different locations due to the nature of the area it claims to cover. We should be discussing how it should be organised instead of trying to claim the name to publicise one single event.
Excuse for a holiday or not, some of us do not have the time or money to jet off to the exotic sun soaked delights of the RAI ;) But if the Euro Champs consist of a number of smaller events throughout the course of the year maybe we could just dream of being a contender.
Should a Euro Championship be inclusive or exclusive ?
Regards
Tim Jones
That makes this, or any other championship event(s) impossible. Do we really need permission from the entire community to even call it a championship? From past experience I know there will never be a concensus of opinion to make it happen.
Remember the not too distant past? Mentorn would put on the event, if you wanted to take part you filled in the form and on the day you turn up. Simple! Totally inclusive.
Also, getting to any of the events on the Winter Tour costs me just as it would to get to Amsterdam.
Mentorn made all sorts of claims like world championships. Ive never had any problems with that, I dont think anyone has.
If you have to compete in multiple events, or to a qualifier and a final event, youll probably end up spending the same or more money because of the extra traveling costs etc. A single big event is the way to go in my opinion.
Wouldnt it be great to have roboteers from all over europe in one place? Youll never get the same atmosphere if you split up an event in multiple small ones. For one thing the British roboteers will probably see only a few roboteers from the continent because they have their own qualifier. It just isnt as much fun.
Besides, the Netherlands is youre closest neighbour. It seems to me that if you even find that too far to travel youll just have to stick with British championsips.
I look forward to that Stefan :)
Besides, the Netherlands is youre closest neighbour.
Has someone moved France? :)
Oh pretty please! :)
Richard, it all depends on where you live. People who live around Dover are closer to France. But Hull gives the closer and faster and more expensive searout to the Netherlands. Harwich is in between of that.
And Belgium, that somewhere in the middle.
And Belgium, that somewhere in the middle.
But no one quite knows where.......apart from the Belgians. Spooky eh? :)
Yeah, its not as if we Belgians are not used at being the crossroads of Europe... or international battlefield for that matter (for which I think we must blame the Romans, they started it...).
People, every organisation can call their contest a European or World one from the moment they get international competitors, although I think that you can only use world when someone comes over from another continent.
And when it comes to distance and travel costs... the UK is huuuuuge. Have -for instance- someone from Brighton travel each month to Leeds and see what happens... the same arguments and the same discontent.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I think that some of you are missing the whole point here. This event is being organised by Marien and the DRG. It will be held at a time and a place of THEIR choosing. It is THEIR prerogative to call this event anything they wish. It is also THEIR prerogative to decide as to how the event will be run. Once that information is made available the only decision that individual roboteers have to make is are they willing and/or able to attend or not.
This constant speculation and attempts by some to influence this event is both irrelevant and pointless for the reasons that I have stated above.
Can we all just take a step back for a moment and let Marien and Co. get on with organising what I am sure will be an exellent event.
Geoff.
Hear hear!
Youre right Richard, that was a bit ignorant of me. France is closer. I was thinking boat-wise. Maybe Belgium would be the best location :)
Could we separate this discussion from the actual anouncement?
It would be nice if the European Championship 2005 as the winners title for this event will surely be was awarded as unique title from a wider ranging series of events as opposed to a one off, stand alone event in just one venue on one date.
The title European Champions 2005 should surely be more definitive and not something that could even be awarded to 2 or more different teams from 2 or more different events on the whim of the individual event organisers?
Travel by car within a single land mass is IME cheaper and in most case quicker than anything involving planes/ boats or trains with fixed schedules and check in times. Brighton to Leeds may be a long distance, but for 2 people sharing the driving and fuel costs it is an achievable day trip costing just £30/head even in our none to economical car. To take a ferry/plane as part of a journey of the same length makes it not only more expensive, but timetables and check-ins are liable make it a 2 day trip and therefore sadly a non-starter for us ;(
If you want to discuss this further, I suggest you open a new topic in the general chatter area.
Due to negotiations with other parties in Amsterdam, I cant be more precise then: somewhere in the periode of 1 to 14 July. We will be running: heavy-, middle-, feather- and antweights.
Great news Marien :) hopefully well have our middle ready by then too so Team Storm will be along - done just about every other European event thats been run and for anyone who hasnt been to one.... theyre fantastic :)
Id be more than willing to coordinate UK teams going over as I have done before, and if theres enough see if we can get some sponsorship to cover some of our costs.

soz about my previous comments, quite a while back actually. I have this annoying habit of blindly poking advise into things...
Anyway, good luck with the event.

Are the Americans going to be invited?
Were going for European Championships first, Mike.
We will be testing the new machine from the Bulldog stable, should turn a few heads,
Nothing exceeds like excess!
Well my heads just been turned with a statement like that (hope it justifies it !!!)
Look forward to seeing it. Nobody seems to do excess or extreme any more.
Roger.
P.S. Hoping to have my Feather running for this event - Its a bit extreme itself.
Bulldogs new weapon is in my profile total weight
including teeth 18kgs,made from T6, with D2 tool steel teeth, 1500 rpm,

Nice Tony.€¦ Very nice indeed.€¦ Any chance you could publish the dimensions of the disc so I can do a KE calculation!!
Hello Geoff
I have already done a calc before I made it but it will be interesting to get someone elses calc
Here goes,Dia across disc 500mm,Dia across teeth when in position 600mm, Disc 27mm thick, teeth 25mm thick, geared to 1500 (dependant on testing)
starting and stopping has to be considered!
Lem 130 prime mover Shaft dia 38mm,
tony
Tony,
My calcs suggest it would give 6.5kj @ 1500RPM. Spin up time should be less than a second with a lem130. Max tip speed is about 100mph.
Looks great! Cant wait to see it in action.
Mark
I agree the KE calculation (I came out at 6.47Kj) But The only way you could produce a spin-up time even close to what Mark states is by having to run the LEM at 36V at a reduction ratio around 4:1, NO slip whatsoever in the drive and a very effecient set of battries. Even then I think 1 second is being a little hopeful. Pratical experience (plus a bit of fancy maths) sugests a spin-up time some were between 1.7 and 2.3 seconds (still more than acceptable!)
Looking forward to seeing that run in anger Tony!
Thanks for that guys I got around 7kjs I was out a little then,! dissregarding efficiency, spin up time depending
on what type of transmission/ setup I use, we estimated 2.0 secs, from still, recovery after a heavy impact
around 1.2-1.5 secs, battery performance all important, but more important to me is that
with this disc flying round, drivability!!!!!
it has to perform and deliver the weapon, I dont expect bots to be queuing up to run into the front:),
Tony, as far as drivability goes, depends if you are going to run it horizontal or vertical!
Horizontal shouldnt cause you a problem, but that mass running vertical will be nightmare when it comes to doing a tight turn...just watch our featherweight and you will see what I mean!
Horizontal definately!!!!
Gyroscopic probs if we go vertcal, also greater
strike area horizontal, also can invert if flipped, but check out this Im seriously
thinking of spending some of my own money on this machine!!!!!!!!!:sad::sad:,
