26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
Heavy Weight spinners are not allowd to fight in the main Friendly Competition running over the whole weekend for the trophys. But spinners can fight in the arena in an organised fight - Eg you ask to take on a robot and they have the right to accept or reject the fight against you.
We will also leave slots on the Event Show order board saying Spinner Fight then people can write in that slot knowing it will be a full combat fight against a spinner or any other robot/weapon.

Ok thank you. Are you going to fight with Pussycat? I want a rematch against you. :) You kicked my robots *ss there 2 years ago. The dents are still in the CO2 ram.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
LOL Pussycat wont be at Debenham as Alan is using her for other demos around his home town, also hes off to China and plans to take the bots as there doing a new show in China.
Also Pussycat has now been retired from Full combat, she will only take part in live events with the flippers and pushers for fun white board fights.

Marco, thats a letter forwarded by Kevin, not written by him. The man who wrote the original would not know any roboteers. Hence he doesnt know about the rest of the European roboteers.
I hope that this clarifies things.

Methinks a battle of bad London accents will be too much for the fragile creature that I am :)
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
Dear Geoff. The first time was painful enough. If you think that I am going to be stupid enough to do it again then you are mistaken.
No, seriously, once was enough and twice is stupid. I know how powerful that disk is.
Marco, I will be at Debenhams. A match sounds good to me.
Mike.
PS Karoline. I do NOT have a London accent. I have a beautiful Surrey accent. Remember, I speak the Queens English I does. So less of the lip you local backward girl.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
Its very clipped London. Thats wot they all talk in Surrey just to distinguish themselves as being middle class chavvy types rather than inner city yobs :)
BTW Debenham (Debenhams is a shop you bloody twit) is in Suffolk, not Southwark :proud:

Im sorry to say that Team Storm wont be at Debenham this year with Storm II or Horizon.
Ed has been told by Geoff Thorpe (the organiser) that he is not welcome at Debenham, the reason he has been given is that people do not want him at the event, and will not come if he is there. Meral and myself have no desire to attend without Ed; we are a team, and Meral and I both feel as excluded as I know he does by this.
That the community would treat a fellow member in this way; to ostracise them (and thus their team) is not what Roboteering is about surely? I cannot think of anything Ed has ever done that deserves this treatment?
Geoff Thorpe told us that he had no intention of telling us this until we showed up on the day. In my opinion this makes it all the more disgusting, to turn someone away at the door in front of their friends is something you would only do to try to humiliate them.
For the record, Ed is one of the most generous, passionate, helpful and dedicated people you could ever meet. Ed has always been a doer, which naturally puts him in the line of fire. He is willing to take risks where others wont for the ultimate benefit of us all. We all want this sport to continue do we not? Yes hes capable of winding people up along the way (arent we all at times) but nothing that comes close to justifying this.
The positives of Eds efforts are there for all to see. This forum that we take for granted would not be here if it were not for Ed and his generosity in funding it. The Robot Rumble has benefited from Eds hard work for the past three years free of charge. Ed took the loss of the World Champs badly, but somehow managed to pick himself up and went on to pay for another event at Billing from his own pockets, driven by his desire to do all he could to make things right.
Its a shame we cant be there next weekend, we turned down a personal invite to attend the Robo-Olympics to support our local event, the decision for us was simple. Still, we are where we are, and although Meral and myself could still attend the Rumble on our own, and we have really been looking forward to doing so, we have chosen not to, we just dont feel welcome.
Those of you who know me well will know that it takes a lot to visibly get to me, and I only make comment when I feel comment is worth making; but to be honest I am extremely disillusioned right now.
We cant see where we can go from here, Ed has already resigned his elected position in the FRA (for fear that his presence there may do more damage than good) and for now all we (and Ed Im sure) can say is we are going to miss you guys.
Tim and Meral

I can only say sorry that something like this has happened. I cant say I know Ed well but I do know first hand his helpfulness and support after what happened to me at Billings. It was done with genuine concern for my well being and I will never forget his kindness.
What has happened is underhanded, cruel and, worse of all, dishonest. I hope that Geoff Thorpe will fully explain his actions to Ed and the people that have a problem with him can be honest enough to tell him too.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
I am really really livid, before anyone starts saying im putting this on after the history me and Ed have, i genuinely have time for Ed hes put alot into robots theres so much work Ed has done for the sport both that you guys see and that you guys havent seen or are yet to see, he works hard for us and he gets treated like this for his efforts. Im disgusted at his treatment by Geoff Thorpe I have considered not coming as a sign of protest but that does no good so I will be there and be sure I will make my feelings known and we will be supporting ed
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
This is the most disgusting openly action Mario and I have ever come across in our entire roboteering career. Is there some personal vendetta going on ?
Granted, we do not exactly know Ed well enough to have something to say about him but that is strictly personal and is no excuse for keeping him off live events and accusing him like that. This kind of boycotting is very very disruptive and damaging to the sport.
I hope Geoff Thorpe is aware of that. As an event organiser he should not allow himself to be blackmailed by people with a personal agenda, this is most unprofessional.
WHO IS TRYING TO KILL THE SPORT ?
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
What is wrong with people? I think whoever as problems with Ed should at least have the guts tell him them self. After all hasnt Ed done enough to try and get the sport back on track? taking on losss along the way. Your loosing a good man and i hope you will realise that.

1. If Geoff Thorpe doesnt know any roboteers (as someone said earlier in the thread) who has influenced his wretched decision?
2. Is Geoff not capable of thinking for himself?
3. Does Geoff make a habit of passing judgement on people he doesnt know? (Its extremely contageous)

Well im glad I am not going. If the :People: who said they did not want Ed there had any backbone why not speak to Ed himself instead off sneaking round like rats leaving a sinking ship. I hope that everybody that does go Voices there support for Ed.

What the... This is ridiculous. Lets have the word from Geoff Thorpe about this ASAP. Ill resist saying more till I know more, but I cant believe theres any justification for this nonsense either from the people involved, or from Geoff Thorpe for caving in. So lets hear it- whats the deal?

Well are we going to get a explination. And what is the FRAs stance on one of its members being bared from a event. Will the (People) who did not want Ed there please have the guts to post an explination or are they too gutless.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Just so you are all aware, the FRA are currently in negotiations with Mr Thorpe, all parties would appreciate a little breathing space from further comment on this forum, to allow time to resolve this matter to everyones satisfaction.
We will of course inform you of the outcome as soon as we can.
thank you in advance for your patience.

Chairman,

Dear Roboteers,
Due to poor ticket sales - the Debenham 2005 Robot Rumble event on the 26th/27th March, has had to be cancelled.
Roaming Robots was being hired by the Robot Rumble company to provide back stage staff (Arena doors and pits) to run the event at the weekend.
The rest of the event organisation is done by Robot Rumble, and sadly the cancellation of the event is out of Roaming Robots Hands.
Its a shame to see the ever popular Debenham Robot Rumble Event be called off.
We need to stick together and look towards the future.
See you at an event soon....
Kind Regards,
Roaming Robots Crew

Thanks John.
Whe are getting used to it, 3rd time now. Our ferry was booked this morning. Whe better try to get some sleep and talk about whats possible tomorrow.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
There is an obvious pattern here. This is the 3rd event that gets cancelled within 24 hours after I reserve a place on the ferry and within 4 days of the event actually taking place.
Ill take full responsibility and never make boat reservations again :)
On a serious note, we havent used our robot in over 6 months and we where really looking forward to this event. Im very disappointed, we all are.
This has done some real damage, not just financially. My trust has been damaged. Im not pointing fingers or placing blame, the cancellations have been independent of each other, but are no longer just a case bad luck. Im at a point where I dont know if its worth my time and energy to get all worked up and ready for an event in the UK. I may feel better after a good nights sleep.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
Oops, looks like my comment on the 18th March was rather close to the truth. However I think that most teams prefer a 100% guarantee that an event is going ahead and if needed cut back on extra costs like accomodation etc. The demand from the public is nothing like as big as it was so if anything ticket prices should come down not up.
-
26th/27th March 2005 Debenham Robot Rumble
Roaming Robots own gigs seem to be consistantly well attended by the public, and dont tend to get cancelled. If I was a main-land European builder Id try for those in preference, or maybe one of Blacktops airshow gigs where youve got a captive audience. Yeah, I saw your earlier post Rob, and thought the same- too costly. Ive been half expecting this to happen- my wife was pretty horrified at the prices but I was going to try and book a couple of tickets today after a bit of an internal struggle. So it goes... Seems even more of a shame the Storm team were upset over a gig that isnt even happening.
