just an update on Blazer, Ive had it driving around today for the first time. The arm will be finished off tomorrow, so might get the first flip in by the weekend. Ive had to change the layout to be able to fit everything in! The ram now stands vertical in the middle of the robot, which might give better results on flipper.

I now have all the components. Also due to the layout change i should be able to fit two buffers in.

Ill try and get some pics up, and a video soon.

Ive gone for a high flow regulator from Mario de Jongh which should eliminate the necessity of buffer tanks. A good thing as I was scratching my head wondering where I could make room for one. Its pretty much a direct fit onto the gas bottle so the plumbing is greatly reduced.

Im going for a horizontal ram working an arm. The only thing that Im short of is time (again)

Still no thoughts as to a name but thats no problem.

As good as Marios regulators are, I doubt that they youll get the same flow as with a buffertank. I stand to be corrected though!

Good regulator vs poor buffer tanks? Well find out. For a middleweight as opposed to a heavy, simplicity and compactness may be the way to go.

Youve had the same problems as me with the size of the ram and gone for a different (but effective) solution.

How well can it self right from being on its side?

dunno yet, as the wheels stick out it can drive round on its side which may either throw it on top or onto wheels. Ill find out when i try! Ive got a couple of ideas to help get it off if it gets stuck.

Also note that the flipper wasnt at 10bar in video, it was only running about 8.5bar.

Im going for a front hinged flipper with the ram static and laid flat in the base. That should make self righting fairly easy and keep it contact. Being low means I have to decide what to do with the large wheels.

The problem we will both have is in spreading out the armour thinly over a large area, making us vulnerable to those damn spinners.

looks good carl, dont worry about cosford, blazer will be running as a Featherweight house robot. The full armour probably wouldnt be finished for then anyway.

it a shame, i was looking forward in battling you Alan, maybe at the FRA championships or a local event. the reason for pulling out is because we have a Wing feild Parade (Gary will know about this) in our Beds and Cambs wing, sorry :sad:

that would be good for us alan, weve got our disc ballenced and we ran it a full rpm, sweeeeeeet! :) and the blade we were taken would of trashed your bot but we wouldnt do that cos im not that nasty, much!! (only joking)The blade was a 8kg blade with 2 blunt teeth on it

It has now been proven (almost, just need conformation from Carl himself :)) that Carl is a vapourboteer.

From certain sources, I have found out that Carl had no plans on entering the FRA championships, and from what I heard Carl NEVER had an intention to properly enter RAF cosford.

ahem but we were going to the cosford event but i have sent an email to Black Top Productions saying that we are unable to attend this year. and we still are attending this years world championships.

Im still with rather a vapour bot but Ive got almost 50 kg of parts, just a matter of putting them together. Family pressures have taken their toll but the advantage has been that having lots more time without building has enabled me to think up lots of ideas to make the build easier. Ive got two stainless steel boxes, one was earmarked for the body. Ive realised that cut down, the other one makes a good skirt.

Its a completely diffent robot to the one that is supposed to be owned by carl.
