FRA World Championships
Im in with Blazer:
80*210mm ram (producing about 512Kg of force), 2x 1litre buffers, 3/8th high flow valve, 1.1kg of gas (about 52 flips), 2x 400watt wheelchair motors powered by a Vantec RDFR23. The robots basicly done, just needs the new armour sorting (mixture of ali/steel/HDPE). At RAF Cosford it weighed 40Kg with the thin ali armour.

aaahhh when you said about info about flipper right its one i built from parts of others which were cut down, its aprox 55mm x 150mm i have no idea what force it is which is what i assumed you were asking, im using 2 ncc70 controllers taken from my heavyweight and 2 12volt x 7ah batteries basically bits and bobs ive collected over the last year or so from various friends, at the moment im guessing its gonna be right at the limit of middleweight, so i may have to fore-go armour and hope i can flip any really savage cutter or spinner before they get me.

Gary said: I wish we werent sitting this one out! Me too!
Sean: the most dangerous opposition looks to be from the American machines which are both spinners, one is a drum spinner and the other is the undercutter.
It looks like the middleweight class is going to be exciting and dangerous even though there are only 8 entries. Seems there will be 3 spinners, 2 flippers, 2 pushers and 1 unknown (GreenMeanie.
-
FRA World Championships
well it looks as though my machine may come home in a bag then  i cant stand spinners far to dangerous, they should stay in the heavyweight class.
well if alans robots is like mine it could be a pusher as well as a flipper because wheelchair motors are designed for some serious torque, i dont know about yours but mine is rated at 11nm to start with and builds from there, i dont know what its stall torque is ive never tested it.
anyone else know anymore about their motors?

So where are the playrules?
-
FRA World Championships
http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/rules.htmhttp://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/rules.htm
-
FRA World Championships
nope, those are build rules not play rules.
I mean rules like:
-If you€™re immobilized for 30 seconds your out
-If clamping your opponent is not youre primarily weapon you should release after 1 minute
-Etc.
Nobody seems to officially have them anymore.
-
FRA World Championships
Good point Stefan .... I assume that we must be using the old R.Wars play rules.
-
FRA World Championships
Problem is, I, and Im sure quite a few more of us have forgotten the RW play rules by now
-
FRA World Championships
eeerrr yes thats true

Alan
Does that mean the Green Meanie has been accepted ? I had kinda given up and not been in to much of a rush to finish the build.
-
FRA World Championships
it was on the email with confirmed teams (i assumed everyone had one of these sent). By the looks of it your in.
-
FRA World Championships
YIKES.... Never got that one
-
FRA World Championships
No way will I be ready now
-
FRA World Championships
cant you just make a pusher or something and put loads of armour on?
-
FRA World Championships
I know what it feels like, last wars I only knew I was in about 1 week before the competetion. (I know that was only a featherweight, but as long as you have the parts its only slightly harder building a middlweight).
Just try your best, and if need be, do a John Reid and turn up only to be told by the pit reporter your bot is out, it doesnt work :proud:
-
FRA World Championships
Dont think 180w motors make for a pusher, was all about flip with this machine.
-
FRA World Championships
Well... (come to think of it) I dont think anyones done a slow-moving armoured brick yet, why dont you try? :) You might stand a good chance against the american bots if you build robust enough, put it this way, 4 days of full-on robot fighting is worth building a bot for...
-
FRA World Championships
Its not slow, about 12mph but lacks any real pushing power
-
FRA World Championships
Broadsword III has 20mm thick gas pipe as the front end with the sword to keep the scary stuff at a distance. The drive is a pair of CIMs at 36v. If I can keep the Americans away from the wheels then Ill be alright.
-
FRA World Championships
eeeeekkkkk
looks like im about to be dispatched in the first few seconds lololol, i mean using cims in a middleweight, is it only the americans that have built spinner bots in the middleweight class?.
-
FRA World Championships
Sean,
Julian has the right idea, pile on the armour. Britishg spinners [Typhoon, 259] were just as bad as the US entries but they both could be stoped by good armour.
Just show up with a robot that passes checks and get in a lot of driving pracice beforehand. If the weapon works, thats even better. The single most important thing is to show up with a working robot.
-
FRA World Championships
John, you are the master of middleweight armour with the SS. Is there anything that can crack it? Spikes work well against spinners if you avoid the cutters. Broadsword avoided damage against Typhoon because the front of the bodywork was above the cutters. Working robot? Mm. At the moment Im trying to see if I can bend chequerplate ali to put a hump over the gearboxes.
Sean, youll be aright. Broadsword is mostly harmless, although I give Typhoon a bit of a fright for a while. With current limiting this time, I can push without worrying about blowing the speedos (was Victors now Robots R Us)

julian
what thickness is the ali?, because if you dont live to far away from me i can get you access to a machine that will proberbly bend it for you,
-
FRA World Championships
Pretty thin. Ive bent a test piece, now to see if I can do it over a larger width. My techniques are far from subtle. If it fails then Ill try using heat to bend my bus shelter polycarb.
-
FRA World Championships
john and others, a reason (apart from your thick armour) that typhoon didnt perform during that match so well was that it was spinning in the wrong direction! Hence the cutters didnt work so well as they are designed for one direction. Guess thats what happens with a lack of testing!
-
FRA World Championships
well the offers there julian, we only have a week or so anyway so if you want it dont let me know straight away lol
-
FRA World Championships
Julian - Assuming it just needs a uniform curved bend, and its not more than 2.5 feet wide. Ill run it through our mangle for you if you like. If its not a massive peice, it should be pretty easy to post it each way.
-
FRA World Championships
Ill bear you in mind but as Im just looking to hop over the gearboxes, it doesnt have to be much or even particularly accurate.
-
FRA World Championships
oooopps you can tell i was half asleep when i put that last post in lol should have read
if you want it done
