I cant be 100% sure on what Dantomkia uses, Mike may tell you later, but from what he spoke to me about and from viewing it, its more of a bungie clip, that clips onto the Link. Idea is to push the clip away then you can pull the link, all with the use of 2 digits and a thumb. But you can still pull it out if you yank it, like the Tech Crew did when the robot was driven back out of the arena, then deactivated by the Tech Crew. (this damaged mikes bungie clip thing, which is why his link came out in the All Stars final). Well you shouldnt need a clip thing mikey :proud:
Pussycats link does rub up against some ali. It proberly is up against alot of friction, have to push quite hard to get it in, and pull, well not hard to pull back out, just hard to put it in.
But still - my mini anderson links i use in my feathers from FW.org, none of them have came lose, and there not rubbed up against something.
Hear so many link fell out. Personaly i dont know how thats possible. LOL! If someone hits it, then fine. But there quite hmm strong in terms of clipping them together for them to just shake lose. I dont know.
Mr Stu
Must say our link (one of Pauls from Technobots) has also never come out...although not being in as many fights as PC or Dantomkia we have been in a fair few...and the pumelling Chip got in New Blood being arena flipped, attacked by Thor, Psycho, and Growler for almost the full duration it didnt come out.
Just wish everything was as reliable as the link:)
Im 100% behind removeable links, despite Blitzs coming out at IRR. Anyway, those Team Whyachi switches require a Hex wrench to operate them, which is kind of against the able to be de-activated tools by hand without any tools rule.
Feather Weight people - a semi poll has been set up on FeatherWeights.org, just out of interest what other featherweight roboteers views are about increaeing from 12kg to 13.6kg, for this big event or/and for the future.

on the subject of links
the only reason links come out mid fight is because they arent in properly or a poor design on holding them in.
In my previous heavy TX-108 we had the link come out a few times due to where we put it and how it was put in.
In Tanto the link is floating in the back (can only move a few inches in either direction it never goes out of reach be cause it cant) Ive ran tanto in brick walls and been slammed by the likes of Strom 2 and Mute and its not come out.
it does happen but not if you do it right
Links:
2001 The Dutch Battles: Our very first heavyweight, our very first fight and the link falls out. Bugger. We use other links since then and found that it really depends on
1. the person putting them in (like carefully and concentrated, making sure it sticks) and
2. the use/abuse of the link itself (some wear out after a time and have to be replaced).
Featherweight weight:
It was exactly in order to avoid these kinds of discussions that I have pushed the Dutch (and the Germans a bit too) into accepting the FRA rules as the European Standard.
The issue is that two different leagues have established different weight limits because one uses the metric scale and the other doesnt. 1,6 kg may make a difference in a featherweight (extra weapon/armor/motorpower, less weapon/armor/motorpower) and that is something most of us have in mind when discussing this.
My opinion: If you want to play on the other playground then you must obey their rules and vice versa. I really dont care about going to the USA with a 12 kg robot without adding some extras because I know that whatever Mario and I build will be up to the challenge anyway (our motto: if it cant take it we dont want it). Our second heavyweight in the second Dutch Battles did not exceed the 90 kg mark and we didnt care. Why should we ? In that same series a cluster came out at some 103 kg and their opponents agreed to accept it. The cluster lost by the way, but it made one of the most delightful fights of that series.
So... if American featherweights want to fight here they should abide by the 12 kg rule. If they cant, say: they cant shed weight because it would mean seriously disabling their chances, and they ask for an exemption to be made then I think it should be up to the opponents whether they agree with it or not. I would agree, if only for the challenge. And sportsmanship.
Just to give my opinion to the increase in weight in featherweights.
some people may know of my spinner Tantrum which is currently capable of 5KJ at 24volts inside (just!) 12.2kg. That is the same energy level Hypnodisc was at in series 2/3. If you give me an extra 1.6kg I will be happy to show up, and capable of showing up, with 10KJ in my disc.
Just thought Id put this into context for you.
If thats not a good enough reason not to do it, Ive an indistructable hardox armoured billett bot and a 2 tonne full pressure flipper, if you really want to see me go 1.6kg (12%) sillier, agree to the rule. I personally would vote against changing the rules.
Ooh, all of 5Kj James? Im sooo scared!
If thats the best you got...Oh boy, are you gonna be in need of an urgent delivery from the sh*t creek paddle company!...Stu, youve seen the photos, you know about the motors...Inform this poor deluded soul what hes got comming to him!
LOL!!!!!!!!!
Well all i can say is both of you can shut up.
Like big boys with your big toys :D
(But honest James, its nasty! LOL!!!)
But saying that - we hanvt seen this 5Kj bot work yet, just boasts, nor the flipper, you never know Geoff, it might be good, but it aint been fully working yet.
Mr Stu
PS - Very Nasty. LOL!
Youre all playing with Toys... theres a reason Horizons taking so long to get right....
:)
Ed

Yeah- cos ed decided he might actually try and build it himself :-p
OK then Ed,
If its that good, lets see the specs. E-mail them to me if you like. I promise they will go no further than my inbox!
The only reason you havent seen it fight is because everyone hates it. It has faught, once, but only does demos now as its too nasty. If you want to start a mines bigger game of verbal tennis Geoff, I will do it after the machine meet. only 5kj now that is an empty threat, sorry.
Stu, the flippers not finished yet, but that doesnt mean its a vapourbot. e-mail mario for confirmation its real. Likewise, enough people have seen Tantrum, its not a wooden model with silver painted trim.
I was making a point, not bragging about supposed vapourbots, if you give me, Ed, (and Geoff if hes being serious) an extra 1.6kg, you will kill the featherweight class. Its already getting stupid but it is getting towards the limits of what can be done, change the rules now and weve a long way we can go before we hit limits again.
Ill put my money where my mouth is here, give me 13.6kg and Ill put a LEM in Tantrum 2.
It aint happenin chaps, so I shouldnt concern yourself to much :)
James
We would have given you a run, and enjoyed doing it to! How about you stick Tantrum down for our Cosford event?
Sam
there is no way of making it safe to fight. The position of the link will always be inside the diameter of the disc.
The only way I can demo it is to put overloads in it so in the event of loss of control (or over eagerness on my part) it automatically blows all the fuses and dies. Not something I want to fight with. Thats why Im doing Tantrum 2, with a different arrangement allowing a centre shaft link.
I would sign it up now for Cosford Sam, but having let you down 2 years running at Enginuity I want to see it run before I sign up. If you can take an entry for undisclosed identity featherweight that may change last minute but definatly bring one of them Ill enter asap.
Tantrum is very nasty, ive expeirenced it first hand. our weapon testing box made of 1mm steel bolted onto box section took a 7 inch long tear into it and the disk was still spinning. ive fought it with venom in the Rc Wars annihilator , venom pushed it into the side wall and it coiled over the 4mm steel spike whilst popping the a weld in Venoms cheek. and thats hardened steel. Both of these tests were done on 12v thats quarter power.
Although haveing these new super weapons is pushing the boudry. i think it has to stop and soon. RR have events almost every few weeks. if robots get seriously damaged every event people will ask whats the piont. super weapons will kill off the featherweights class, its just a matter of when.
James, you dont happen to have a few pictures of Tantrum that you can send me? Being a foreigner, Ive only heard about Tantrum, never seen it.
James,
Oh, Im serious. But I just find it a little strange that anyone would build a machine that, by there own admission is not safe.
Our machine is built, ready to run, has been tested in combat and is fully FRA compliant.
Personaly, I am more than happy with 12Kg, the whole question of 13.6Kg was only a discusion for one event only, the FRA World Championship, to make life a little easier for the US feathers to compeat. but as Sam has stated it will not now happen. Also according to the Featherweights.org poll a majority of teams want to stay at 12Kg.
To echo Sam, bring it to Cosford, and lets see it run. If you are that confident that it can do the business, put it in the arena with Scorpion Jr. one on one. (That OK with you Sam?)
If the planned class 1 arena goes into place (or even a class 2) I dont care if the thing blows up once its in the box :)
Only thing Id be concerned about is that its safe in the pits and through activation, de-activation.
So yup itd be fine with me, assuming all the above boxes are ticked.
Sam
Well, when I built it I thought it was safe. Public opinion deems it not safe, as we tent to apply a lack of common sence to all roboteers when writing rules. At that time or design and building featherweights were just leaving the windscreen wiper and mdf stage, so rules on links were not as strict.
In fact, right up until robotwars series 7 it was still legal. By safe I of course mean compliant with current rules, as I would never have designed and built the thing if I was not sure it was as safe as I could make it. Tantrum when concieved and built was compliant, but as the rules have tightened to ensure feathers are as policed as heavies, Tantrum no longer fits the rules, and cannot be modified to fit. This is a good thing as I dread to think what would happen if someone showed up with a bad copy of tantrum. Its only that this is a proffessionally made machine that fills me with the confidence to even contemplate fighting it. If Sam and the FRA are willing to run a robot that does not fit their own safety rules then thats up to them, but I think Tantrum has had his day, missed it, and is now relagated to demos only. Thats not to say Tantrum 2 wont be up for that though Geoff. Ive a huge admiration for Scorpion Junior, and look forward to fighting any and all featherweights from the scorpion camp.
I do have a selection of machine for you to play with, and if Sam can accept a cryptic application Ill fill the form in now.
Hi Everyone, Tantrum here.
Good to see Im still talk of the town.
Got a pic on my profile. Not my best side, but hey, Im not going for any beauty contests on the forum.
Hope you like the pic, cause Im easily offended, and I know where you live Fredriksson :)
Sorry to disappoint you, but the picture isnt under your profile...
Im a robot not a computer programmer.....
blushes and skulks away to sort that out.
ok, done.
pic,s a bit big though
My god how many user accounts do you want james.
Mr Stu
Looks very good indeed. You dont happen to have any more pictures?
not on me at the moment.....
will get some demo vid on the net soon if you want to see it.
just the 2 is fine thanks Stu.
gotta have a giggle now and again, and also, didnt want to delete my profile pic.
That would be great, let me know when its ready!
