South East FRA Region Meeting
OK..So it seems to come down to a choice between the Harvester or the Saltdean Tavern. I may just take a drive over to Brighton this evening and check out both. (Up for a pint later Karoline?)
Ill then report back, and hopefully we can arrive at an agreement.
More later,
Geoff.

no chance im afraid - ill mean dragging the littlun out while hes probably asleep.
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
anyway if we meet up from 7 then the littluns should be in bed anyway - a venue thats ultra kid friendly isnt so important if its just us big kids
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
Oh ill come :) might be late tho depends when I finish work (damn rotas) Anywhere in the brighton area is great for me. a nice short 6min trip to brighton then 20mins to find the place :p

Hi all,
The Harvester is the easiest of the two to find...On the A23 just south of the junction with the A27. Its very nice, but when I looked in this evening it was very busy and I suspect it will be the same,if not more so, on a Saturday night. Also the car park was very full.
On the other hand, the Saltdean Tavern is very pleasent and a lot less busy, plus there is loads of parking. But its a little out of the way being just off the A259 Brighton to Newhaven road at Saltdean. (head down the A23 to Brighton pier, turn left and keep going!)
I think on balance, although the Harvester is very nice and easy to find, we will all have a far better chance of finding somewhere to sit together and be able park at the Saltdean Tavern.
So, which is it to be??
Geoff.

Geoff, enjoy your pub crawl?
We ate in the Havester on a Saturday night, we got there between 6.30 to 7.00 and whilst we had to wait for the restaurant side, the bar area was quite quiet. Parking was not a problem at this time as well.
Are we intending to have a meal or is it just to find a bar somewhere? The Saltdean looks about 30 minutes away from the Harvester knowing how slow that A23 can be. I will go with the concenus but in the long term we should try and settle on a pub near a trunk road for those travelling longer distances.

Paul,
I must admit I hadnt thought about the possability of having a meal. any thoughts from anyone else on that one? The only thing is that I would need firm numbers at least a few days in advance.
As for the pub crawl..I wish! I have a very strict personal policy about drinking and driving, it just dont happen! I lost a very dear friend to a drunk driver several years ago so its soft drinks only for me.
Like you, Im happy to do whatever the majority want.
Im off to the RR Preston event now, so I will see what response we have when I get back Sunday night.
If anyone wants any info on these places you can always e-mail me... teamscorpion@aol.com

Hi all. What I had in mind is grabing a bit of bar food in the form of a burger and chips. Not into steaks all that much so that wont bother me.
I would prefere the Saltdean pub because it sounds as if it might have a little more character.
Mike.

South East FRA Region Meeting
Saltdean is much easier for me for obvious reasons
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
coz you own the place and expect to make vast profits?
Mike.
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
no - its because Im too bloody lazy to go any further
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
Id find it more important that we can all sit down than worrying about an extra few minutes finding the place, but again Im happy with the majority decision.
Are we really going to need advanced notice for food? I also was only thinking of munchable bar food, although if thats a problem I could easily be talked into going for a post-pub curry instead, should there be one convenient. If theres a real issue I can try to find a motorway services, but Id prefer to wait until Im there.
Incidentally, my other half (aka Steph) has expressed an interest in coming along if everyones alright with that; although shes seen a good few fights, if she looks a bit blank at more technical discussion dont be surprised. Might also be impolitic to go into too much detail about how much magmotors cost. :-)
Someone pick, and Ill be there.

Andrew, of course Steph is welcome...as for the price of Magmotors and other robot related parts ...Its always been my understanding that as far as relevent other halfs are concerned, such things are subject to the official secrets act.:proud:
The Saltdean Tavern does do bar food as far I understand.(Karoline to confirm?)
If everyone is happy, I think the Saltdean tavern has it by a short head. So shall we say 7-7.30 on the 13th?
See you all then,
Geoff.

bar food is available as well as sit-down meals (or stand-up if you prefer). Alternatives include chinky, and fish/chip shop in local parade about 5 mins walk.
Steph is more than welcome as we can sit there looking blank but beautiful together :)
-
South East FRA Region Meeting
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... Looking blank and sitting together? Sounds like a guilty consience there. Any parent will know what I mean.
So Andrew, topics to avoid are componant costs? I will have to see what I can do. (manical laughter coz if you can afford a magmotor then you can afford to pay for the food for the rest of us to keep us quiet. 100 burgers and chips over here please )
Steph and other partners will be most welcome. Roboteering has become a family orientated affair as well as it should be.
Having said that, Geoffs partner ( John ) is Bl00dy wierd! and it might be better if we got him arrected on sight so that we dont have to put up with him saying Its only a flipper!
Mike.

Hang on a sec.
Lets get things straight here for a moment. John is not my partner in the biblical sense!!!(For gods sake Mike, dont give Karoline any more ideas..She already thinks I have a thing for sheep!!!!) He is my TEAM MATE and yes, I agree hes a little strange, but at least he can put a machine together that can put a good few holes in Dantomkia! :proud:

South East FRA Region Meeting
Oh I *see*. Sorry, I *had* assumed Mike was talking biblically. Glad you clarified, or there could have been a pedal appendage/eating orifice situation. :-)
