Newark/GRA is the next planned event...
Ojh and Christian, I work best with a deadline. and a deadline of 3 weeks sounds beautiful !
first part of Gravity 5 is in :
2x mag s28-400 with 9:1 planetary gearboxes
Nice purchase WJ, theyll serve you good!
A bit surprised that youve already started collecting bits for that though...
Well, you cant let bargains go by in robotworld, now can you...
And I needed a differt approach on my drive, it was way too slow. Powerfull enough, yet too slow.
You definitely wont have to worry about that any more WJ :)
Ill be interested to see them put to use!
Sam
Ok, parts till now for Gravity 5 :
Magmoters S28-400 and 9:1 planetary gearboxes
4 x pbq 9 Ah batteries, linked to run 18Ah @ 24V
Mythras speedcontrollers, 2x 120Amp continuous
Probably 140x140mm full pressure ram
Terrifying!
Whatever happened to the budget Gravity? Hehe. Cant wait to see the new machine in action.
just the one 140x140 ram WJ?
yike!
:)
budget gravity, hmmm long story...
lets just say, I got interested in the sport again (thank god !)...
maybe newark will see some budget pieces in the robot, but world championships wil definately see the best Gravity yet...
*Laughs manically*
print the for sale signs in advance this time WJ :)
ok, did some work on Gravity 4 last weekend, bout 3 hours of work :

looks like air :)
Damn i love your flip WJ, just so powerful! And the clip when he says: just wait for the thunder hehe that was pure ownage :D Btw are u building/going to build a 3-way clusterbot or did i read wrong?
It didnt got too well for Lightning, did it?
As for the cluster bot, I think that was something he build a long time ago. For the first dutch wars, if Im not mistaken.
http://www.plugenplay.nl/V3/http://www.plugenplay.nl/V3/
It was indeed something I built for the dutch wars, but not for the first but for the second wars. They did surprisingly well, VERY hard to fight robots coming from 3 sides. I still have the chassis laying around somewhere. Oh yeah, and the armour of elevation (that was its name) mas made of computer cases ! Just hammered it around the frame, then welded it...
Oh and Shane, if it looks like Air... Then Air looks like Gravity 1 which I built in april 2002. I re-used the old frame hehe ;)
that doesnt look like a 140mm diameter ram WJ :)
It isnt. This is Gravity 4 El cheapo
The ram in there is one of my oldest.A 63 bore 320 stroke.
Gravity 5 will be fitted with a giant ram.. as thats no Budget version.
eh? I guess WJ does have some sense then? that surprises me.
Of course WJ has got some sense. Hes just not used to showing it in public. :)
But really, just because its a budget version does not mean it wont be a force to be reckoned with.
Budget only means its being built with parts I already had laying around... Like buffertanks, and full pressure rams and stuff...
Looks like it will be 1 serious flipper, love to see it in action.
a change in plans :
Magmoters S28-400 and 9:1 planetary gearboxes
4 x pbq 9 Ah batteries, linked to run 18Ah @ 24V
Mythras speedcontrollers, 2x 120Amp continuous
140x153mm full pressure ram
hopefully 1 big buffertank
2 co2 bottles
Ah, you just had to have a bigger ram than Air, didnt you?
Just kidding, as usual...
Of course you should be the best :D
I have a reputation now, godda keep it over the top :)
Even if its only by 3 millimeters.
With all these upgrades with new buffer tanks, new armour, and new mag motors, im surprised that you havnt upgraded to Nicads to be hoenst. As you know would save quite a bit of weight, maybe space, and give your Mag motors that extra power when needed maybe?
Mr Stu
my mags dont need more than 120 amps. Im a flipper not a shover. And the fact that I have bout 24 9Ah slas laying around and the chargers for them, is also sorta convincing. And with 11,2 kg for 24V 18Ah Im happy.
first design of Gravity 5 :

Wow, WJ, which version of AutoCAD are you using? :-)
I look forward to seeing it with slightly smoother sides and an extra dimension!

Fluppet
I dont know how to use autocad, or rhino, or whatever. This is one of the first designs I ever made of a robot. Normally I dont draw. I stack up the parts and weld them together. For Gravity 5, this will be the drawing which Im gonna build to.
It seems to be shorter than the previous versions :)
It is.
It is gonna be as long as it is wide. Previous versions drove very well, but turning on the spot was hard with a front end that long...
Nice beast!
Sounds interesting (and I wasnt being critical, WJ - Mike has banned me from designing with a CAD package - just amused). I genuinely look forward to the final robot, and thank you for the preview, however, er, sketchy.

Sketchy it might be, but just compare the result with this here sketch and see the remarkable resemblance :) Drawing this sketch is the same style as building my robots...
ok, another 3 hours of work in Gravity 4 : First part of flipper arm, buffertank fitted, hinges of flipper arm fitted.
